If regain you control, we hope, you can use system restore to go back ahead before the problem arose.

The user profile Service failed to connect
"The service user profile Service could not connect. User profile cannot be loaded. "What does that mean? How can I connect?
Hello
You can try the following.
Shut down the laptop. Tap away at f8 that you start the laptop to enter the Windows Recovery Console. Use the arrow keys to select Safe mode and press ENTER. If windows will load in this mode, on the Start Menu, click principally made programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and run the system restore. Choose a restore point at least 24 hours prior to the issue of logon and then proceed to the restoration. When you are finished, Windows will restart as normal in order to check if you can now connect correctly.
Another option if the above does not help is as follows.
Shut down the laptop. Tap away at f8 that you start the laptop to enter the Windows Recovery Console. Use the arrow keys to select "Start using last good known Configuration" and press ENTER.
Kind regards

the laptop had windows xp originally... I've updated to Vista. He worked for a long time
Hi ashenstar,
Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forums.
We would like to get more information about you to help solve your problem. You better, please answer the following questions.
· When you get this error message?
· When was the last time it worked?
· Remember to make changes to the computer recently?
· You have security software installed on the computer?
· How many accounts do you have on the computer?
This happens especially if the user profile is damaged.
If you have all the other user accounts on the computer, try to connect to this account and check if you are facing a similar question.
First suggest to check if you can boot to the desktop by using the procedure in safe mode.
Steps to start in safe mode with networking
1 restart your computer if it is running.
2. tap on the F8 key after your initially on powers computer.
3. Once you see the menu Advanced Boot Options, you can stop tapping.
4. use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
5. Select Mode safe mode with networking and press ENTER.
6. you should see loading drivers and wait please.
7. you should then be at the Welcome screen.
8. connect to your computer using an account with administrator privileges.
Start your computer in safe mode
http://windowshelp.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/323ef48f-7b93-4079-a48a-5c58eec904a11033.mspx
If you are able to boot to the desktop in safe mode, first create a new user account.
Then suggest running a virus scan online on the computer, the mode safe mode with networking.
Check the link below for the online virus scan
http://OneCare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
If you are able to connect to any other user account on the computer and cannot connect to an account, you will need to transfer the settings from the user profile of the user account corrupted to a new user account.

Hello ColinMorton,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the Forums of HP, I would like to draw your attention to the Guide of the Forums HP first time here? Learn how to publish and more.
I understand that you experience connection problems after that you run a Microsoft Update. I would recommend you look at the HP support document: Safe Mode of Windows 8 (8.1 is exactly the same) and the safe boot mode. Once you are in Mode safe I would recommend that you look at and follow the steps in the HP Support document: use Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8) (8.1 is exactly the same) and restore your system a few days before the update that caused you this problem. This will not affect your applications only personal folders that you have installed in the past few days and/or the settings that you have probably changed. You can simply reinstall the applications and/or re - change the settings later.
I hope that I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great weekend!
