• Shortcut to disable TouchPad no longer works

  The SSD in my laptop (HP Pavilion dv7t - 6 c 00 CTO Quad Edition) just died, so I'm a new 120 GB SSD and installed a non - OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (this is because my SSD is apparently not enough great for recovery disk HP sent me - long story). These days I have been installed all necessary drivers, and just about everything works as he did weeks ago. However, there is a problem: my TouchPad is no longer can be disabled by double-clicking in the upper left corner.

  I've tried three different Synaptics TouchPad drivers. Those found on the HP (v. 15.3.11.0) website, one that I get when I click on "update driver software" in Manager devices (v. 15.3.29.0), and those found on the own website of the Synaptics (v. 17.0.19). I checked "Properties of the TouchPad" for each of them, and they have not been of any help. For my current driver, however, when I click on 'settings' under 'Tapping', there is an area called 'TouchPad disable Zone settings,' which has a check box that says: "Double Tap to activate or disable the TouchPad. However, the entire area is grayed out and I can't check or uncheck the box (though, for what it's worth, it is active). I canmanually disable tab in "Mouse properties" "parameters of the TouchPad", but I'd rather just get the feature shortcut.

  I guess when I tried first out different drivers, has not completely uninstall and delete the 'old' before I switched to the news. After clearing all the other versions and installation of v. 15.3.29.0, finally it worked!

  I have a new laptop Toshiba and when I type my cursor will move to a different place at random.  The keyboard is equipped with a blue trackball (mouse) in the middle of it, and I think that it may cause the problem.  How can I disable it?   I don't want to disable my mouse pad, just the blue ball.

  There may be a program that runs in the tray near the clock in the bottom right that controls the
  device. Some Toshiba models have the keys of the map at the top of the screen (move the mouse all the way to)
  up to see if your model has this feature) which allows control on some devices. Some models
  have (usually indicated on the key cards) shortcut keys that control input devices.

  If nothing else works, try Control Panel - double - mouse and other pointing devices - devices Manager
  Click the device - driver tab - Disable. I would use this as last resort than the other options possible
  allow you to activate and deactivate the device much easier.

• Looking for disable tap-to-click - RESOLVED

  Hello the Alienware/Dell team!

  I have the new Alienware 13 & I can't seem to turn off the tap to Click functionality. I'm used to that there is an option in the control panel to do. So I tried uninstalling & reinstalling my drivers touchpad, including completely remove from Device Manager & resettlement. I also tried to install the Synaptics driver directly from Synaptics site to see if their small applet to let me turn it off from there like in Windows 7. However, I can't seem to get anywhere with this.

  I even went up to fetch the Synaptics registry keys to see if I could do there, but alas - I have no record of Synaptics registry either, nor anything in Program Files for Synaptics.

  I've had my Alienware 13 for a few days now & it's my only frustration. If someone could help I would really appreciate it!

  I want to just mark it as resolved here. I did the following to get the "Turn off the Tap" functionality in Windows:

  1. Go to "change PC settings."
  2. Choose the option "Update and recovery"
  3. "Recovery".
  4. "Advanced boot" then "restart now."
  5. Since the start, options, I chose "troubleshooting."
  6. Choose 'Advanced Options '.
  7. "Startup parameters" and then "restart".
  8. The restart options screen, I chose option 7 - "disable driver signature enforcement".
  9. I then installed the Synaptics driver on the site of Synaptics & restarted
  10. Now I can go into my settings and disable tapping! Hooray!

  More difficult there, but I think this is done I'll be 100% satisfied with this Alienware in the future!

• I'm on firefox version 8. However, I noticed that my Norton Security (green check mark) and the toolbar has disappeared. So when I'm looking for goole is no longer tells me that are safe places.

• BDP-BX57 error 300 look a Netflix and no longer works

  Hello. Everything is good until May 9, when my Blu - ray gives me a 300 error when viewing of Netflix.
  All other services are running.
  Firmware from Sony is the last: 11/02/2011 - if not recently changed.
  Powered off power and removed for 5 minutes and always recreates.
  Done the factory reset and remove information and Setup. Always recreates.
  Called Netflix twice and they insist that many of their users of Sony's blue-ray are complaining about the same problem and the problem is being developed by Sony.
  They tell me to turn off my camera, just wait; they're going to send me an email when solved.
  Can I have the perspective of Sony about it?

  I'm having the same problem! Since May 10, Netflix does not load, get code error 300. I called Netflix, they claimed it was a problem on the end of Sony. I called Sony this morning, re-explained my problem to countless technicians in support. Finally, got the answer that there is a problem on end of Netflix and they are working to solve the problem. I was told to wait, no time, and the issue would be resolved. Now, I read online that blu - ray all models Sony readers have systematically bad connecting to Netflix. Maybe I should have bought another brand?

• How to burn long lines of CD

  A friend gave me a DVD with a video and audio recordings of an event.  I tried to download the audio files to CD for listening in the car or another reader CD, but many of them are about 1.5 hours, and I get a message that "burn is disabled; file too long. " I know there is a way to condense either they are MP3 files, so I thought that the CD would just burn like that then I would have a number of hours on a single CD.  Help, please! I will soon on a long boring road trip two days and was really looking forward to listening to these files.  Thanks for your help!

  Dow a download and install Audacity, an editor audio freeware. Also install the Lame mp3 codec that you can get from the same site.

  Open and load your mp3 file. Select > all > File Menu, choose export as > then export them as mp3 format and choose a low flow. If the current bitrate is 320 bps then choose 128 bps and use a slightly different name in order to do not write the original worm.

  The new file will be much smaller than the original (high flow) and can fit on a CD. However, you will compromise quality by using a lower bitrate.

  Or:

  If you don't want to compromise the quality, using Audacity, locating a point in the mp3 file where you can cut the file into two parts, making sure that each part (maximum 700 MB) can fit on a CD.

• Pavilion HPE h9-1033uk: Graphics port disabled

  I tried to update the existing graphics card without success.

  So the old graphics card which remains in place, and everything was ok.

  Then I looked in the BIOS settings to see if there was anything that could help me.

  Unfortunately, I have disabled the only long PCI slot, where sits the graphics card.

  The motherboard graphics has been / are disabled as well.

  So now there is no display of any kind.

  What can I do to get one of the back of the graphic, so that I have change the BIOS setting to enable the PCI slot?

  1. turn on the PC and repeatedly press "F8 key" for about 10 seconds

  2. press "cursor" three times

  3. press on 'Enter key' twice

  4. hey presto - BIOS is reset to the default values and display is on.

  5. change the BIOS setting as required and restart PC

• You have disabled most of the Add-ons that I depend on. Now I use Chrome.

  I use some add-ons that you disabled. Like Dashlane, I depended on for many years. Keeps me alone by FF because I use so many sites that require a login. Even if it does not appear as being disabled, it no longer works in goodbye and next and next.

  You may need to update Dashlane. See this recent thread where this has solved the problem: some unattainable version 40.1 Add-ons.

• 'Sounds' disabled in the Notifications tab

  As far as I know, I don't have sounds cut permanently any where (I don't see that preference any place), but the option is disabled. Now, when I get a call, I know only the answer/ignore the UI appears on my screen. I want to cut _almost_ all the sounds, but not the new call sound.

  How can I return this option?

  Finally I got quite annoyed to do a deep dive and solve the problem. Pasted from a response I gave to another question on the same subject...

  This has been driving me crazy for a few months now (since upgrading from 2.8.x) and today I finally took the time to track it down. Like everyone else here:

  • No sound is produced by incoming calls
  • In my "Notifications" preferences, the box "Play a sound" was disabled (grayed out)

  Here's what I did to solve the problem:

  • Open ~/Library/Preferences/com.skype.skype.plist in your favorite plist Editor. For me, it opened in XCode by default, but it opens up as well in a text editor such as TextWrangler. The plist file is just a text XML file at its base.
  • Find the option called "MuteAllAlertSounds".
  • Change the value of true/yes to false/no. If you are pensionable in XCode, you will change the value 'YES' on 'NO '. If in a text editor, you can change that...

  • Restart Skype

  Now my 'phone' sounds really and that the checkbox "Play a sound" is disabled is no longer.

  I have a problem that I feel can have a simple solution, but I don't know where to look.  My glyphs no longer appear in the icon editor, and yet they are present in the correct on my computer folder.  In my view, a path may have got changed somewhere that points to that folder, but there is nothing that I could find in the editor or VI properties.  Maybe too much, I looked at something and it is more obvious as it seems.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

• How to disable messages on monitor HP 2010?

  So I plug the monitor hp 2010 to my PS3 with a HDMI cable to DVI. The monitor only supports the resolution of 1600 x 900. Apparently, the PS3 can only produce in 720 p or 1080 p. When I select 1080 p, the picture seems clearer and sharper on 720 p. I can see everything fine.

  However, when I output in 1080 p, the "input out of range signal" message appears on my screen. Is there a way to bypass this just message or turn it off to appear on my screen?

  Hi, I am looking to disable the warning level for all rules that are active notifications. Given the thousand rules in the specific case of Foglight, it is impossible to remove manually, so I addressed the issue with a script. I am able to locate all the rules by using the following code, but I don't know how to deal with checking if a warning level is active and if so turn it off.

  Let me start with a word of caution.

  Everything you do, please try this standalone Foglight Server just to make sure that it works properly and works as expected (the script is 2009). Keep in mind that once you run a script the changes stick then please test scripts results several times and test on a server foglight you can remove/resintall until you make sure you've got the right result.

  This is a script that came from Geoff Vona, thanks to Darren Briefcase to find it.

  Again, I can't emphasize enough, Please make sure that you use this very carefully and test several times on a stand-alone server (environment crash test) to check what you want him to do, he does. It should help you to get at least to the proper syntax.
