Lost disc to upgrade product key

I bought windows 7 Home premium installed on my computer.  Now I have a new computer and still have the drive, but I can't find the case so I don't have the product key.  My new computer has windows 7 starter edition.  I want to upgrade but can't without the product key.  The key is stored somewhere on the old computer?

Windows Update has nothing to do with the upgrade of Windows. Please post future questions about the upgrade in this forum: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/threads ~ Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (that is to say, mail, security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ WARNING: MS MVPs represent or work for Microsoft

  • New hard drive gets the INVALID disc Windows 7 64 bit upgrade product key!

I installed Windows 7 Home Premium and within 24 hours, my hard drive is dead. I replaced the hard drive and reinstalling Windows 7 Home Premium with 64-bit disc. Everything went well until the time of the entry of the product key. When I typed in the key of this program returned an INVALID KEY message and instructed me to check and retype the key, I did. Product key message invalid was repeated. I have not installed a previous version of windows before you reinstall 7, and the installation program never asked me to check my right to use the upgraded version (Yes, I used the CUSTOM install method).

The INVALID PRODUCT KEY message due to the absence of an earlier version of windows is detected on the new hard drive? I need to install my OLD version of windows before proceeding with Windows 7, can I? Please help me understand what is happening with this PC. I convinced my sister to be upgraded because Windows 7 is SO much in my PC, so that she bought the upgrade disc and tried for a week to get its system works as well as mine has inlaw for several months. I have not heard of someone having this much trouble with the upgrade to Windows 7.

Product keys don't care equipment. They only care about the version of Windows that you are trying to install. (However, you cannot validate a facility later but this is another topic).

If your product key is rejected, then you are two typing errors or you are using a key that does not match the DVD that you are using. This could happen if you use a MS Office key for a Windows installation to a key of Windows 7 OEM for a DVD retail of Windows 7.

No idea how can I recover a lost product key for Windows XP Professional I received from my previous employer through a Volume with Microsoft license agreement?

You can not - these VLK licenses are the property of your employer - you pay for your own license.   Pay pay pay.

If your computer has a license on the case sticker then you should try to first use.

I currently have a HP with Windows 7 on it. I want to wipe my hard drive (a full cleaning) and start again. Hello

You can't reinstall Vista on a recovery partition you have installed another operating system

    read this:

Solve a common problem of recovery.
If the original operating system is changed to a non - Vista OS, the Recovery Manager cannot be launched either office or by pressing f11 at startup. You can use the recovery disk to restore the computer to the original state of Vista. If you are using a non - Vista OS, you can use a third-party partition management program to recover hard disk space.

    ________________________________________________________

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

you say, that they will not!

    ________________________________________________________

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • Fable: The lost chapters not valid product key

I bought Fable: The Lost Chapters recently and went home to install it. When I'm in the product key and it entered into it sayed it was invalid, I thought they could have messed up or something so I took it back and got a new. I went to install the new the same thing happened. What's wrong? Why can't I install the game?

    Hi Sulit,

This problem may occur for one or more of the following reasons:

    ·        The product key is not entered correctly.

    ·        The number of CD - set, the disc assembly number or the part number was entered instead of the product key.

    ·        The product for a product key has been entered for a different product.

You can access the link below and follow the steps described in the article and check if that helps you install the game.

I hope this helps. Let us know the result.

  • Can I use Vista Upgrade product key on the SAME machine?

I upgraded my Vista Home Premium to XP media Center computer, and now my computer runs very slowly.  I have 1 GB of RAM, but isn't enough for Aero?  So... what I really do is to perform a new installation to refresh my computer, but I can do after already using my key product upgrade once? (Now I have an external HARD drive to back up my data... I didn't when I upgraded).  The new facility will be used with the same upgrade DVD and product key, and it will be used on the SAME machine.  This is allowed, or vista become inactive and I lose Vista completely?

Yes you can reinstall Windows Vista by using the Windows Vista Upgrade activation disk works perfectly. Make sure you have your 25-digit product key.

Also, make sure that you have installed once are not dual boot.

My advice is that you bring a new installation with Service Pack 1 disc as shown here:

Follow the instructions for installation, as in this case:
Please note that the guide is basis of Dell, F12 can be a different key on your machine and you need to get your site system drivers from your computer manufacturer Web but most of the others in the guide apply to all windows based computers.
  • How does the OEM? Can I use an OEM disc with a product key, I already have?

So I just bought a laptop preloaded with Windows 7 32 bit. I would like to install clean with win7 64-bit, but I don't have an installation disc and I can't find one online that is not cracked which leads me to the conclusion to go out and buy the thing. So the question is: if I'm going out and buying an OEM version, can I use it to clean install, using my previous product code provided with my laptop? Or is the OEM software and key, it comes with a part of the binding process which binds to a machine? Any info would be much appreciated. ~ Vince

If you buy the exact same OEM version as your current license (Windows 7 Home Premium - Windows 7 Home Premium) it will work.

If you have difficulties to activate Windows 7 open the Windows Activation Wizard in Windows 7 to use the phone and activate Windows:
During the Windows 7 installation at the entrance of your product keys page, do not enter your key and uncheck the "automatically activate when online.
    1. When you reach the desktop, click Start, then in the search box type: slui.exe 4
    2. press enter on your keyboard
    3. Select your country.
    4. Select the option to activate the phone, then call and hold to a real person.

Difference between a full license and an OEM license
    Windows OEM licenses:
are related to the first computer installed on and are non-transferable
cannot make a room upgrade from older versions of Windows
do not offer any free support from Microsoft
allow the hardware upgrades of all components except for the motherboard (unless, of course, because the card mother original becomes defective)

    Thanks in advance!

Gotcha. I should have insisted on that last part, I've included above - to download the full version:

Alternatively, if I have W7 Home Premium to download and use the product key, it should work?
I thought that you could load any MS product on both machines. I bought my PC from an online retailer so I hope that qualifies as a license purchased at retail?
No, it isn't, I want to talk about the software, not "material". If the license is preinstalled on the system, you can not remove it and put it somewhere else, it is connected to the computer at all times.

It's just that I bought just when out OS 7 and as soon as I bought it, they sent a disc of upgrade. I would have the drive of W7 if she had been following.
This is a record of achievement planned as a free update software preinstalled OEM, its attached to the machine.

  • Reinstallation of Windows 8 using a recovery disc and need product key

Recently my computer crashed and needs to be reinstalled using a disc of recovery of Windows 8.

I can not forward a more unless I can access the product key.

    Really need help here

    Hello Lauren,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community Forums.

If your computer came pre-installed with Windows 8, then using the recovery disk don't ask for the product key. The product key of Windows 8 on new machines is now integrated into the motherboard. It uses the Secure Boot technology.

If the user has to reinstall the operating system on a computer with Windows 8, the installation process automatically captures key software product of the motherboard BIOS without input from the user. If you have an OEM computer that is preinstalled with Windows 8, then you must contact the manufacturer of the computer that the computer broke down recently so that they can help you.

If your computer came pre-installed with Windows 7, then you must install Windows 7 first and then upgrade to Windows 8.

Response with the State of the question and we will be happy to offer you our help.

  • I'm looking for my upgrade product key to Win10?

    I use a Satellite 10 P50-B-q PSPNUE.

Upgrade to Windows 10 wonder 8.1 Windows product key, which I did not. All packaging of my Toshiba and also the laptop does not show the typical Windows license product key seal.

Gives me a resonable key to retrieve via keyfinder product key, but Windows 10 know what isn't correct.

How can I know who is my correct product key for the Windows OEM Toshiba 8.1 I use?

You bought a laptop with preinstalled Windows 8.1 system and this system has already been activated during the first connection to the internet.

Upgrade Windows 10 requires no serial keys where the beginning system has already been activated!

If you want to return to factory (back to the preinstalled Toshiba system) you must use the recovery media.

Recovery means can be created using the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator!
And it is strongly recommended that before you start the upgrade to Windows 10!
