lost in the collections file associations

I have recently moved some files from my internal drive on my Mac on an external drive to free up space.  I don't remember exactly how I moved them - I'm sorry - but I'm almost certain that I moved them in LR.  When I moved them to the new drive, I had them moved to a folder parent parent with a different name than the file on the old disk.  Before that I did, I also copied them on a different laptop hard drive just in case where something went wrong - I add this because I don't know if this is the cause of the problems with the questions below

When I go to the file in the new player, everything seems fine - as far as I know, all the metadata and develop settings are there.

However, when I try to use Collections to work with pictures of one of the files, I get the "!" in the corner of the cell.  So I click on it, then find the file, find, choose it in its new location on the new drive, then I get a message saying that the file is already associated with another photo in the catalog and cannot be associated with a picture.  I don't know where the other picture is the question - I see it only on the new drive.

Is it possible to find the other photo - and if so, what I'd do to solve it if I found it?

Also - please let me know if I did something wrong in the first place - most likely - because I want to do this regularly in order to free space and the desire to do it without the headache of this.

Thank you for all the advice!

This is the crux of the problem. You get this message because you have (probably) have uploaded the photo twice, and Lightroom now has a version of the photo of the first importation that is not associated with the actual photo (that's why you get the "!") and a second version of the second importation, which is correctly associated with the photo.

You find these photos in Lightroom. Follow these four steps in order:

1. in the Lightroom library, on the left, under Catalog Module, click all photographs

2 disable all filters (once or twice Ctrl-L)

3. turn off any combination (Photo->-> develop all batteries stacking)

4 search for at least one of these photos by file name using the Lightroom filter bar

You will probably find that the photo appears twice in this search. One of the photos will have edits and metadata provided by the user, and the other won't. You want to keep with the changes and the user-provider metadata, it is likely that with the «!» You want to remove from Lightroom (but), one, and then you should be able to use Lightroom to associate the picture with the "!" in the file.

I would also add that importing photos a second time never solves anything, it usually worsens the problem, as you can see. Never re - import. The best way to move photos to another drive is actually:

  1. In your operating system, COPY (and not MOVE) the photos to another drive
  2. In Lightroom, use the command about the location of update for Lightroom folder point to the other drive (it's all explained in detail here, scroll down to the section called "Update folder location")
  3. When that is complete and working properly, your operating system, delete the photo of the first disc.

  • I lost all the photos, files and programs, can someone help me please?

I did a system restore (I think) and lost all the photos, files and programs.  Can someone tell me please how do I get back them?

    Lillie

Looks like your user profile has been corrupted in some way and XP connected to a new profile.  This means that when you connect, you see one of your stuff and can be also lack all the other programs you may have installed previously.

Note that the system restore do not know or care about the personal files on your system.

Unless there's a disaster or instead of a system restore you done a system recovery files would be still on your system somewhere - you just find them... and when you find them, you can correct what happened.  If you have made a recovery of the system instead of a system restore, then all is lost and you need to recover from a backup.

Have you performed a search of Windows to see if you can find some of these photos and files?    For example, you could search for something like "Resume.doc" or a file name that you remember exactly to see if it is anywhere on your system and where it is.

Why don't you get in Windows Explorer and (assuming that XP is installed on your C drive), navigate to this folder:

    C:\Documents and Settings

Below, you will see that each user on your system has their own folder for their personal belongings.  You will see also some folders listed user that you do not recognize, but that's normal.

Under the folder of each user, there is another folder, as "Documents of Jose" and under this 'Jose music' and «De Jose Pictures»  Dig a little and check them all to see if you can find your missing stuff.

Just take a look in the Control Panel, add/remove programs to see if "missing" programs are still installed, but all not available when you are logged in (you don't have to 'do' something - just look at).

Assuming that you can find your missing stuff, determine where we (which will make feel you better knowing that it is not really gone), then report back and someone can help you straighten things.

  • Lost on the *.exe files file associations

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit. After trying to install a new program MYOB, all *.exe files were replaced by 'Open with Myob', I manually edited a large number of changed properties, but most often when I try to run a file, it asks what program you want to open the *.exe file relevant, I don't know how to find what program he claims.

I tried to do a system restore without a bit of luck because when I try to launch it by opening the file rstrui.exe but it asks which program I want to open it, so I'm back to square 1. I'd appreciate any help I tried to solve this problem for four solid days.

  • I moved folders in my catalog, but now the collection files are missing

I recently moved aproxx 10 files from my hard drive to an external hard drive to create space on my computer (through the external hhd-> photos-> and then imported into lightroom again). Now im back to work, I noticed that the pictures have moved above the catalog, but modifications and flags etc. disappeared, then her back to the original files, and corresponding with the moved catalog collections State only files but folder names show the content as 0.

I have not saved my catalog for ages so I can't get back them in this way... is there a way I can find collections elsewhere, or is there something I can do to make lightroom makes change them data on the photos again? I already tried the missing help file + brought 10 folders to hd where they where the first and optimized the catalogue but all failed...

is - it really true if you move the catalog files lightroom deletes your data edition of this folders and files in them?

Never import photos a 2nd time. That was the mistake.

Using your operating system, move the photos to where they were on the first hard drive. This should reconnect photos in Lightroom. Looking for them, make sure that you can find those with changes and that they do not have a question mark or exclamation point icon.

At this point, you must remove the photo without retouching and flags of Lightroom.

Now, to move the pictures on another hard drive correctly, follow these three

    1. In your operating system, COPY (and not MOVE) pictures on the external hard drive
    2. In Lightroom, go to the folder Panel in the library Module and right-click on the folder in question and select Update folder location, then point Lightroom at the new location of photos copied to the external HD (more details here, scroll down to the section called the update folder location)
    3. Once you are 100% convinced that Lightroom now recognizes files on your external hard drive (there no question mark or exclamation point on your photos icons), then using your operating system, you can remove photos from your original hard drive.

And please start to perform regular backups of your catalog in the future file, no excuses.

is - it really true if you move the catalog files lightroom deletes your data edition of this folders and files in them?

No, in fact Lightroom allows this, as I have explained. The problem is when you import a moment 2nd photo, Lightroom thinks this is a brand new picture with no editing and no metadata provided by the user such as flags and collections and keywords.

  • Lightroom 6: no icon for the lrcat file association

On Windows Pro 8.1, the catalog Lightroom 6 files with extension lrcat, are presented is no longer with an appropriate icon.

It is not a big problem, because the files are always associated and therefore open with Lightroom. Unfortunately, I get bored easily the catalog files in Windows Explorer without the icons.

I updated Lightroom 5 to 6 and removed version 5 before installing the new version.

I tried to restore an icon associated with the file by changing the default program to another and return to Ligthroom. It did not work.

Can MS I manually associate a catalog with an icon?

    See you soon,.

    Dave

If you don't mind using Regedit, simply find the key of "DefaultIcon" under "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AdobeLightroom6.lrcat". There should be an entry there called "(Default)" value. Just pop the value of your lightroom executable (default should be "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom\lightroom.exe".) That should solve the problem for you.

  • JavaScript menu bar is lost behind the .swf file

I have a drop down of the bar menu that was created using javascript. I have insterted a photo gallary swf file created in Flash. The problem is that the menu bar disappears behind the .swf file. How can I make the menu to show the photo gallary bar?

    Thank you!

All active content on a page will always come to the top, so to speak,
including Flash, some elements of form, Java applets and controls Active X.
This means that each one will push through the layers. It is not a good
Cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this problem, but if you can be
confident in your visitors using IE 5 + or NN6 +, you can then use the Flash
setting wmode (However, Safari does not support this correctly!).

  • Data are lost in the recording file

I have problem with registration in the system binaries RT

I started the registration of the host system

After that some time suddenly power for the RT system disappeared

then file was created in the system of the CR, but the data is lost

    It is showing 0 bytes

    Another fact to this problem

My understanding is that the data is written, but indexing to access data is not done until the file is closed.  Therefore, the data are not available.

The other possible explanation would be that the data are just put into a buffer to send on the hard drive.  There is a function buffer flush.  Maybe this will help you?

  • . Lost exe file association: need a permanent solution

About 5-6 months, I had a problem with a .exe file association. I could not open any programs (gadgets sidebar, Skype, msn, etc.). I searched through many solutions which work.
I downloaded Microsoft Fix It ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950505MicrosoftFixit50194) which is supposed to fix the exe solution. In addition, before this, I used a patch of file from a website called .exe association: http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/File-association-fixes-for-Windows-Vista.html
The use of the file association fix modified .exe registry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT exefile (default) value given in "Application". Then, after some requests for windows support, he said to transform the value '%1' % *.

Can I use the MicrosoftFixit, restart my computer, and then wait for maybe 5 minutes, and my programs load early upward. The fix would last maybe a few weeks and he was coming back, I would do the same thing and I fix it again. It happened maybe 4 - 5 times in the past months.
Now, just recently, whenever I restart my computer, the .exe problem. So I would continue to use the current method, I do and after a long time (maybe 30-45 minutes - it happened more time because my computer is slowing down - for some reason), it works again (until I open my computer where he would once again). I need a PERMANENT solution to this .exe problem where I cannot open any programs. I system restored but it still has the problem after each relog in. Thank you for helping.

Reitarate, I need a permanent solution to the .exe file association problem because the problem keeps coming back even if I fix it, after each relog in... Help, please

  • The HP files

In my HP Pavilion DV6-6156sl pc, there was a terrible rodkit for what I do to format the computer.

That's why I lost all the original files of HP.

In the pc, I now have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Please, I would like to know exactly what HP files I have to download to restore the original.

    Thank you very much.

    Hi cif.

My previous link to the software and your PC Download site was incorrect. Here is the correct link.

Do you need drivers or or are you referring to the software 'value-added' installed by HP?

This site lists the specifications and software installed on your PC to the factory.

Some of this software is available on the first link in this post and some software is available using HP Recovery Manager's or the SWSETUP folder that is installed at the factory, or to restore your PC to a factory state using recovery discs.

You have errors in Device Manager?

Here is a document from HP support by using the Device Manager. We need to know if you have errors.

  • WLM file associations associations of system

I am running Win XP and Office WLM. I have Office 2003 is installed and all file associations are defined to use Office 2003. If I open a .doc from a folder, it opens in Word 2003 without problem.

I installed a trial of Office 2010, to try it. This has obviously changed all my file associations, but I changed them back because I didn't want to use Office 2010 by default (it's so slow to start!).
However, if I open a WLM desktop accessory, it always use Office 2010 to open the file. Why? Why it does not use the default file association?
I know that I can save an attachment on my HARD drive and open from there (and it uses Word 2003 correctly), or I could uninstall Office 2010 trial and he will return to Office 2003 (I hope!), but I'd rather have WLM use default file associations.
Is there a way I can force WLM to use Word 2003 high of the page open .doc files?
