  I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with.   I noticed some display problems since the update for Sierra. I see some trails icon when switching between desktop computers as well as a line of 1px of random colors on the right side of the screen seems to be leftover pixels for the desktop switch as well.
