• Activation failed for CS3

  I'm trying to activate my web for CS3 premium software.  I got the serial number, but did not have my previous version number updates.  Adobe has not in the file either, but a stimulus/response from hack to get around this and get to the activation screen secret.  Then activation failed with the error code 194:3, what they told me to come here for help.

  Just bought a new Canon and tried a few RAW shots. Unfortunately can not load into my aging CS3 and could not find all the corresponding downloads on Adobe Lab site, seems tailor-made for CS4. Anyone out there able to help?

  If not, worse comes to worse, are there other programs that could convert RAW to JPEG images? Rushed without checking the manual and forgot to set the camera to the mode dual shot (RAW and JPEG).

  I'm in the same boat as you with my SX1 René. For me personally, this is a case of wait for the final version of ACR5.4 that shouldn't be too long now, given the RC version (which does not support the SX1) was released on 21 May. For you, using CS3, this won't help, but chances are good that the DNG Converter will also be updated to version 5.4 at the same time. My personal recommendation at this time René would be to use the latest version of DPP own guns (version 3.6.1) that will recognize the SX1 RAW and format which from my experience personal (and many others) did a better job to restore the Canon files. If it wasn't for the fact that I have well established in a Lightroom/Photoshop workflow I would use DPP without issue full-time.

  As a final note - there are a lot of poorly guided information posted not only on this forum, but also others regarding the use of the DNG Converter. The advice given are of course well meant, but are often incomplete. While the conversion of RAW files to DNG via the converter is a way for older versions of Photoshop be able to read the files, it is not enough that underline the converter DNG itself must support the original RAW files. As you have discovered yourself Rene, older versions of the converter (versions 5.3 and lower) have no support for the latest cameras.

  In summary, then, your options are to hang on and wait for the release of version 5.4 of DNG converter or use canons DPP to convert the RAW files of the SX1 TIFFs and then further modify these TIFFs in CS3 if necessary. You can always do another conversion for purposes of comparison, when the latest DNG Converter was released.

  Edit: @Chris Cox. I'm not quite following your sense - might well want to expand? I read a post from you on the dpreview forum where you answered a question from users suggesting that the SX1 would be funded in the next version of ACR.

  CS3 is a good version of Photoshop before Adobe added support for GPU.  I don't remember the conditions required for CS3, they would be not much different then CS6, with the exception of the GPU. What processor is has your old mac?  CS3 may require a processor intel nor and IBM power PC. I'm a windows user. I thing here period CS3 Mac were all OSX and Intel processors.

  You can do it, but you don't have to install cs3 in order to install your upgrade of cs5.5.

  You can launch the installation of cs5.5 and you will be asked your cs5.5 serial number.  Setup will ask you then select the product (in a drop-down list) calling.  Select cs3 and you will be prompted for the serial number for cs3.

  Enter the correct number at the right time and to proceed with the installation.

  If you no longer need these programs on your old laptop, disable (help > deactivate) before uninstalling so that you can keep your two activations.
