LrCat file and Photo files

You want to check my understanding of the following:

I need to TIME the LrCat file AND the pictures themselves to be able to view and modify the pictures in mode develop?

Is this correct?

I ask because I'm trying to make room on my Mac and want to be sure that when I delete all the most recent back-up bars that I have don't end delete all my photos.

This raises the question of whether if my backups are incremental IE if I do a session of 100 photos Monday, another 100 Tuesday, 100 more Wednesday so that the total number of photos within each backup each day would be:

Monday: 100

Tuesday: 200

Wednesday: 300

My understanding is correct?

Any comments/advice appreciated.

Thank you

The catalog (LRCAT) does not contain photos. It stores information about where are the pictures and all adjustments made using Lightroom. You can delete older backups from the catalog with confidence. You can keep multiple backups just in case.

  • How can I move music and photos from my MacBook on an external hard drive, files without deleting the existing NTFS files stored on it?

    Hello.

I am aware that this issue (or different versions of it) will be requested a thousand times before, but after searching on the internet for a solution, I have been unable to find all the information that brings a simple clear answer that is specific to my problem and so thought I would ask the question myself.

I recently bought a Toshiba 1 TB external hard drive to transfer music, photo files and internal document in front of the memory of my old PC running Windows, as well as files, music and photos from my existing MacBook Pro, so I can "release" the memory on the latter.

Transfer files from the old PC proved to be easy; success achieved by simple drag / drop the files to the appropriate location on the external HD icon of Toshiba which appears once I connected to a USB port. It is perhaps worth mentioning that the area of States hard drive has been formatted NTFS for Windows, and so I guess that I would not have expected any problems when transferred to a PC.

Move the files from my MacBook has however proved anything but simple and trying to drag the respective music and photo files and drop them on the HD Toshiba icon (which appears on my desktop once it is plugged), I seem to be affected by the same issues as so much seems to have it before me, in that "forbidden access" / error symbol appears with the cursor , and bounce the files to their original location whenever I try to place them on the Toshiba HD.

I understand that this is due to the HD is formatted in NTFS, and that I would need to reformat the hard drive to move files from my MacBook, which brings me to my questions:-

    (a) how do I do this, and

    (b) can I do this without losing, damage or remove the NTFS files from my old PC, which are already stored on the external hard drive.

If one is able to offer any assistance, in the most simple, easy to follow the description, I would be really grateful!

Never been so thanks in advance!

1 install software such as Paragon NTFS on the Mac and let the reader in its current form or from the Finder, choose utilities go to menu, open disk utility and reformat.

    2. that by putting a copy on another drive. You should do this anyway, in case of failure of this drive.

  • Missing thumbnails of images in the scroll bar after the corrupted lrcat file recovery

    Greetings-

The last 24 hours have been a roller coaster of emotions to say the least. Last night when editing photos my external hard drive suffered a problem of corruption and has stopped responding. I went immediately into emergency mode and started to tear off which doesn't have the data I could from the drive of entry mechanically.

Fortunately, I keep all my original and raws photos supported on a 10 to RAID 5 array with 2 parity drive if I'm not worried about losing those. In addition, I save my lrcat regularly (once a month) to the same NAS. However, since the last time the catalogue was supported up to and now, of course I did a lot of editing. Another factor of motivation in my back catalog has been the fact that I have 4-5 years with a value of photo retouching in this catalogue. So many years of metadata. I didn't want to lose it all.

At anyrate, I was able to shoot the catalog, and when I tried to open it in Lightroom, he complained that he was corrupted and he would try to fix it, LR has failed to do. With a little research, I could empty the LR schema and reset the database, deleting constraints bad (there are three). After that Lightroom was able to reopen the newly restored lrcat file and everything was fine. I immediately supported the current state of this catalog to my NAS for well-being.

The catalog is of course the operational plan, however one thing. My scroll bar containing my images, to the point, are all empty without thumbnails. If I click on a given case, the image is displayed on the portal with all the metadata (the changes that I made, if its been marked or rejected etc.) and the missing tile is regenerated.

How can I get my thumbnails in the scroll bar for those lacking? Some are there others are not.

I know this isn't my video card, or use of resources or whatever related to the equipment, it must be something with cache or something. Any contribution is appreciated.

Please see the screenshot below. Thank you

    Questions 1)

Not because the LRDATA file is fair previews, what LR displays on your screen for a faster loading of the image and will be recreated. The previews only stored in the folder LRDATA is the basic overview created at time of importation for the display of thumbnails and previews of 1:1 for images that you have actually looked in the Loupe View or I guess that appears in the develop module.

He get all the data to create the image themselves file extracts.

If you have several files on your system that have pictures in them and you select one of them that you have not looked at in a while, you will notice LR creation of previews for these images, there will be 3 white dots in the upper right corner of the thumbnail. It's LR creation of previews for the thumbnail view. If you scroll quickly in the grid view, you'll notice a few thumbnails of images are gray, until you stop scrolling, then the upper left tile will come in clear view and the white dots will appear on the other images. It's LR creating previews for those of other images. Once LR created the preview of thumbnails that are on your screen, white spot will disappear. If you scroll down again, you will see more white dots

If you switch to another folder that LR begins again create preview images in this folder. The total number of previews created and stored based on caching of the preview you have in the catalog settings dialog in the management of the files tab.

If not, you need not the LR Previews.lrdata folder. Whenever LR is not very good this folder with a catalog he recreates it to store previews in.

  • HOWTO: Reduce the physical size of the lrcat file?

My cat may have reached the maximum size supported by the HDD to fat32 format. (4GiByte).

Therefore, the cat entries in a different catalog import fails. It says nothing about the reason, but I suspect that the size of the file to the destination lrcat file would be the cause of the problem.

I deleted now already a large part of the images of the cat, but even after optimization and backup the file, he still has this huge size.

How can I reduce the size of the file of the lrcat file?

    Thanks in advance!

Unless you have plugins that store masses of stuff in your catalog, info more is historical edition.

You can change manually clear history (lotsa work) or via the plug-in free depending on whether I wrote:

    Dev history editor

or using a sqlite client application.

You can clean extrinsic plugin info (assuming you don't need more) using another plugin free I wrote:

    Pretend

or using a sqlite client application.

  • Where the lrcat file?

I replaced my hard drive after a crash and were recovering the data.  Using Lightroom 3.6 on Windows 7, where should I put the .lrcat file?  Does go in C:/users/name/pictures/lightroom

It can go anywhere you want. Lightroom it by default in, I think, my images, but you can place it where it makes more sense for you. Once you have restored, double-click it, LR will open it, and you leave.

You should probably tell LR to create previews.

  • How can I synchronize my catalog and photos stored on my PC with my new MacBook Pro?

How can I synchronize my catalog and photos created on my PC with my new MacBook Pro?  I can't find a tutorial on how to do it.  I have the CC of photographers and Lightroom loaded on my MacBook.

The easiest way to configure things so that you can use the same catalog on both systems is to put the catalog and the files of photos on a single external drive, which then you exchange between systems as needed. If you configure things properly, you can even avoid having to "link" the picture whenever you pass. You do only through pictures stored in the same folder as the catalog and at the same level, for example say you have "yourname Catalog.lrcat" located at the root of a folder called "Lightroom Sync", then you would need to have all your photos in the same folder "Lightroom Sync", once again to the root, so that the photos to sit at the same level as the catalog (paste all files under a single parent at the level folder of) catalog is easier). Installation like this, Lightroom can use the relative path of the catalog of photos and avoid any need to worry about the convention of naming/lettering of the operating system. Obviously, the hard drive must be formatted such as Windows and OSX have permissions of read/write on the disc, for example FAT32.

There are other more complex methods, (for example using something like Dropbox), but the method 'all on one disc"is by far the simplest (and probably).

  • Import an old catalog and photos from different place

    Hey,.

I am on a new computer, with different folders, file structure, etc. using Lr 3 instead of 2 Lr. I'm an old catalogue LR 2 any Lr 3. I open the lrcat file, relaunch Lr, lrcat file update and everything is fine, except that my photos are now in a different location (catalog) than they were when I treated the Lr 2. How do I point to the new location? I would not restore all the old catalog structure, because I'm now on Win7 instead of Win XP (which is a mistake btw).

Any help will be appreciated. Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I couldn't fid solution.

  • Explain the relationship between libraries, albums and photos in pictures.  Where are the images stored?

Looking for info on the relationship between libraries, albums and photos in the Photos app.  I can create several libraries containing photos and unique albums.  Can I put the same photo in libraries and the different albums?  By making a copy it creates a link to the original or a new photo?  Where are located the photo files?  When scanning photo to my Mac Pro files are placed in a folder structure, copy these photos in an album Photos using the original file or he places a copy in a database?

Bottomline, I'm frustrated by the method of collection, the albums, the place and date.  I want store related photos in a separate album.   Example: A library for a family, containing albums of members of their family. Maybe the photos have duplicate in different albums.
