M40-285: very low contrast on the screen

Hello;

I have a new M40-285, and I found the screen with very little contrast. It always happens, even in the BIOS screen.

On the lower side of the window, there is always a Flash of light, the background is never 'black', more like a gray.

I got a M30X and the screen was crisp and Nice. That was the reason on the purchase of an M40.

The laptop is brand new, I ask for a replacement, or something usual in this model? As I said, M30X screen was wonderful!

Best regards.

Hi Fran

Satellite M40 is well-known for me because one of my friends has a. I can't really understand what exactly is going on with your laptop but try it please use the FN + F7 key combination to set the brightness of the screen up.

If you are not satisfied, please contact your local dealer and check with him. M40 is a very nice unit with a fantastic design and I believe that there is no hardware problem, just a few bad display setting.

Good bye

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - very low picture on the screen

    Guys, I really need help.

I picked up on old satellite pro 4600 eBay and have rebuilt the thing - everything works EXCEPT the screen - I get a very small image, even on the start screen.

So far I have - changed the cable lcd - no effect. changed the Panel itself, no effect and inverter (4 times!).

Any suggestions? Driver problem? Setting I missed somewhere? Motherboard problem?

Hmmm. My first thought was the faulty FL inverter.
Are you sure you used the right and compatible FL inverter? A connect it correctly?

What about the keys FN + F6/F7? It allows to set the brightness to a higher level?

Then maybe you should check for this possibility.

  • x 201 display number (random changes to the contrast of the screen)

I have an x 201 that automatically changes its seemingly random rate of contrast at intervals.  When this happens, the screen washes out and become unreadable for a short period of time (maybe 5 seconds), then back up until the normal contrast setting.

Does anyone know a fix for this problem?

I read some other posts about similar behavior, although these people seem to have mislabeled the question as a change in brightness.  This isn't the problem on my machine.  The brightness remains constant while the changes of contrast ratio (i.e., goes to a very low contrast setting, making the screen almost completely a white color broken bland).

Thanks in advance for your suggestions...

  • the lower part of the screen has a gray as Monica covering the screen

How can I fix a problem with my laptop screen?

The upper part of the monitor is nomal and works very well. But the lower part of the screen has a gray as Monica covering the screen. The two sections are divided by a straight line. The laptop in this condition it is difficult to do, because the bottom of the screen is so hard to see. Any help with this condition would be appreciated. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5868, I can't afford to buy another laptop. Please someone help!

    Hi CliffordKillen,

What version of Windows have installed you on the laptop?

When did you notice this problem? If this is a recent problem, follow the steps in this document to restore your computer to an earlier point.

Follow these steps in this document to start your computer in Mode safe. Safe mode that will start the Basic programs and drivers required to start Windows. If the screen is back to normal in safe mode, it lets us know that the issue is not the base drivers. We can then pass from the computer in a clean boot State. This will let us know if a software conflict is causing the problem.

If none of these measures, you can contact Toshiba.

  • How to set the contrast of the screen of the iMac?

Bought a new light to the office where I have the iMac 27 ". Unfortunately, the light produced by this new device shines more directly on the screen of the iMac, does the old light. Thus, when the light is on, the iMac adjusts the contrast of the screen so that the display appears quite washed out. When I turn on the light, the iMac readjusts the contrast to normal. (No, I can't adjust the position of the device, it is mounted directly on the desktop in the only possible way.)

This seems to be an automatic adjustment of the iMac. At least, I can't find any sort of manual for setting the contrast. Is it possible to do so. Create a new color profile? Another tool?

    Thank you!

    Steve,

You have a "automatically adjusts brightness" setting in system preferences > displays > display...?

Automatically adjust the brightness or Ambient light compensation (depending on your screen)

If your Mac has detection of ambient light, you can have the brightness of the screen automatically adjust according to the current light conditions.

  • Satellite L650 - 0K 5 - How to set the contrast of the screen?

    Hi guys and girls,

I tried the L series thread before asking this question, so apologies if I have to look harder!

The default contrast settings are blacks appear white and gray also have a slight blue cast to them. My research found that I am not alone, a guy advised that the contrast is adjustable from the Intel Panel. Although I find this other laptop brands, this Toshiba does not allow me access. I can replace it or is there another way to set the contrast of the screen? I understand usually laptops do not allow this kind of display manipulation, however, our way of seeing things is something personal.

Am I destined to be disatissfied with my new beautiful machine? Help, please!

    Thanks in advance,

    KAZ ~.

    Hello

You can calibrate the colours on the screen. I checked the control panel and it seems that Windows 7 already has such a tool for calibrating the colors.

    I found it here:
    Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display

On the left see you some options and then click on color to calibrate it. A new window will open where you can configure it. Just follow the instructions on the screen. :)

Today, I bought a HP PAVILION 22FI. I noticed by chance, after an hour of use, only the lower middle and the right side of the screen was really hot. Surprisingly, the lower left of the screen was not hot at all and so was half top of the screen. Is this normal?

I also found the adapter monitor provided across was not that of HP. It says LITEON. This could be a problem?

  • By selecting a topic when there is low contrast with the background?

I need to make a good selection of a person when there is very little contrast between the person and the background. In addition to the use of the selection tools like the magic wand, quick selection, refine edge, are there other things that might well work? I also tried to find a way to use a levels adjustment layer on what to change the contrast of the subject to bring the person to stand out more just in order to make the selection, it also affects the bottom. Can you make suggestions?

    Thank you.

Look at the individual channels (i.e. red green blue) it is common that one of them to have contrast better than the combined image. Sometimes you have to make the selection mask / step-by-step and use different methods on different parts. You can save each selection as an Alpha channel and combine them later.
On the edgess that are smooth (i.e. not hair) the pen tool can often be more effective in the development of an edge just using the selection tools.

    Hope that helps

  • Latitude E6400, dark on only the lower part of the screen

I have a user who showed me their laptop today.

It's dark on just the lower part of the screen, and it reminded me one brilliant several projectors upward, with waves of light and dark.

    Anyone see this before?

I am open to advice, troubleshooting, because I am a novice on the resolution of the laptop screens.

I'm reading articles online, so any information is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Chai

If the system has a LED backlight (which is what it sounds), part of the panoply of LED does not - you will need to replace the screen.

  • Satellite M40: Errors graphics when you change the screen resolution

    Hello
    I have a Satellite M40 and a big problem.

    Windows xp pro sp2:
When a program changes the resolution of the screen, the screen is messed up.
I see only scratches and only a reboot can run back (or suspend-to-disk).

    [edit]
I plugged an external monitor to the laptop and it works,
the laptop screen is full of lines and the 2nd monitor shows what the laptop screen should normally display also
    [/ Edit]

    Linux:
This can be seen also at the change of the Xwindows mode in linux back to tty(1-6)

Here are some pictures of this strange behavior:

It looks like a hardware problem, but would it be just a bad bios setting?

    What can I do?

    Hello

There may be something wrong with the screen of laptop computers.
I guess that the graphics card is ok because the external screen works properly.

But it s very interesting to know if you are using the graphics driver from Toshiba. If this isn't the case, please check if this problem also appears after installation of the graphics driver from the Toshiba driver page.

  • Lower half of the screen of list drop-down settings of notification/unresponsive

This is particularly visible in the drop-down list of parameters Lollipop (menu you get when you drag to the bottom of the top of the screen twice or with two fingers), but also occurs when I have many notifications.

All the icons on the two lower lines (lamp pocket, flight Mode, Portrait, Mobile Hotspot, data & screen Cast) almost always do nothing when I type directly on them. It's as if the tactile area of the icon is very small, so 95% of the time that I can't trigger the action. I've found that I can trigger the icons on the 2nd line by typing slightly above them, although it is still dark.

Although I have many notifications, I struggle to slip far lower levels and pressing 'Clear all' is very difficult.

I can post a video showing so useful button.

Edit: turn the unit off and on again the fixed, at least temporariliy. Will post a vid if it happens again - this is a very annoying bug when it arrives!

    @amwoo

I have not been able to replicate this, what would you say if you can start in safe mode and try again.

  • Lower center of the screen limits heats up

    Hello

The lower central part of the limit of the screen of the Lenovo 3000 N100 heats, before (screen) and rear (coverage). I noticed that back this area has a crack.

What is the solution, what I need to change the screen or cover or just need to close the crack with masking tape.

The heat comes from the lcd inverter.
It is a component that converts the DC voltage to AC voltage
to power the lamp on the screen.

    A little heat is normal.
If it becomes very hot, it may be faulty.
If it fails, the screen will most likely turns off.
Pretty easy and low-cost replacement in most regions.

Due to the age of the laptop, I just wait and see.
