  Guys, so my computer was stolen a few days ago and I need to buy a replacement.
  Unfortunately all this has happened in the worst time for me, so I have to buy something extremely budget.

  I found a Unicorn. Pre-unibody MB Pro 15 "Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz with 4 GB of ram and GeForce 8600 in a State absolutely perfect (with literally nine original battery) for next to nothing. (alias a want of the friend of the family to sell it to me for a hundred dollars.)
  I have a spare SSD, the plan is to use it and maybe, after a few tests, replace a chip memory 2GB 4 GB.

  But let's assume that for now he stays with 4 gigs.

  I need it mainly for use at home or in the office, I don't need a benefit 'video editing '.

  Any of you still use this kind of mac and could tell me how it behaves with El Capitan?

  I run it on a late 2008 2.53 Ghz core 2 duo and it isn't bad (althouhg I have a new retina 15 "machine to come next week, but it's just because it was time to buy something new after 8 years and the 15" material current is good for me - I really worry about the next update will go to the MacBook style keyboard which is clearly less IMO to the current keyboard Pro retina).

  My end 2008 15 "has 8 GB of RAM but (OWC 4 GB SODIMM) .and I replaced the 320 GB 5400 RPM drive with an OWC 480 GB SSD drive. But even before the update level HD, the most notable decline in performance was the start. Once the system is up and running basics like Pages, Numbers, and others were very good, and I use Office 2016 and Endnote X 7 on mine as well without problem (work Office 365 uses, so I use one of my 5 installed on my Mac).  You will notice that the programs are a little slow to start, but once upward, they work fine as long as you're not too heavy on any multitasking of programs.

  But I do not think that battery will be worth squat. There is no such thing as a "brand new original" of 8-9 years lithium battery. They begin at the point where they are assembled in decomposition and generation of the lithium battery will die in 3-4 years if used or rest.  There is no way that a battery lithium 8 years and more is going to be interesting to Courland longer. OWC sell replacements well and I have used several of their Epsonexpression batteries in my end of 2008 to replace machine as my batteries have worn for the duration of my machine.

  I'd say it should be functional. OWC lists a 6 GB RAM upgrade for the machine too, and it would certainly help if you can afford it, stick an SSD in it would stimulate it too much. These two upgrades would be ~ $300 if, but if it gives you a working machine until you are ready for a current model, it might be useful.

  As an alternative, have you looked at online Apple store refurb?  They have a few refurb MacBook Air was ~ $ 800. Just a thought, if your budget allows.

  HI there, the hard drive failed on my MacBook unibody aluminum end 2008. a couple of years ago, I put in 8 GB of RAM so my thought has been that it is not yet time to entirely replace the MacBook. I replaced the drive HARD failed with a 500 GB compatible hard drive. I tried and failed to install El Calitan via a bootable USB key, because my machine is too old. I just ordered a copy of the Snow Leopard DVD on the Apple store. I wonder how I can install snow leopard on my computer, given that the DVD player on this subject does not? I am able to create a Version bootable USB of Snow Leopard on MacBook for my roommate? He is running to El Capitan. Could someone explain if this is possible and if so, how?

• Should I move to El Capitan of Mavericks

  Currently have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro Mavericks to market with a 1 TB hard drive and a 2.26 gHZ processor. Just upgraded from 4 to 8 RAM with original thoughts to move towards El Capitan. I use Aperture 3.5.1, but understand that I would need to go to 3.6 so I went to El Capitan. Did some research and see how it is possible, if I move the current version of opening up a separate drive, install El Capitan and then switch to 3.6.

  All that being said, I wonder if I shouldn't even bother? I read on a few small problems, opening running on El Capitan. I know that I was able to partition my drive so that I can continue to work opening on Mavericks and El Capitan execution for all the rest, but that would be a pain to switch back and comes just to use other programs. I'm not so maybe that's not as much hassle I think it would be the guy most in computer science. Is it worth it to switch to El Capitan, or should I just stick with what I have now and enjoy the new my rugged up RAM speed?

  Only if you need since it is not a requirement. Never upgrade until you are sure that all of your critical software mission runs or can be upgraded to run on the new version of the OS.

  Eventually, however, you will need to upgrade to El Capitan. Unless you have a USB bootable installer of the Mavericks by car or kept the Mavericks Installer, you will not be able to reinstall it.

  If you also set the SMS allow it that does as well and will send as SMS if the other end seems not to be registered with iMessages.

  This means that the iPhone is send and receive only with iPhone number.

  Then you turn on the Mac version by adding an Apple ID for the iMessages account in the Messages application.

  This can then send and receive using the Apple ID only.

  Then, you add the Apple ID for the iPhone.

  It can then "sync" (really, the view on all devices) the iMessages sent to the iPhone or the Apple ID from there in time to leave the number.
  A pop-up on the Mac appears telling you that the iPhone uses and accepting it adds iPhone number to the list of alternatives in iMessages account on Mac.

  These iMessages are "synchronized" through the iMessages Server (nothing to do with iCloud)

  The next step, if your iPhone and your Mac can do, is to be on the same LAN for the transfer of text.

  The iPhone needs to be WiFi on and join your local network (the Mac can be WiFi or Ethernet LAN)

  You can activate the transmission of text, then the Code number must appear on the Mac which should then add to the iPhone.

  Reset this bit might need several goes until both devices forget their origin "twinning".

  This works on your network connection.

  Basically the iPhone is "sharing" its SMS connection on the support service that the iPhone becomes.

  Things to check

  In settings > Messages on the iPhone Send and Receive section cech.

  The number must be marked (active) and disabled (user cannot change this even if it sometimes fails)

  If it's Unticked then the number may be deregistered from the servers of iMessages.

  If this is the case then disable the App and wait FRO a few minutes before turning back on.

  Now, wait until the number has checked.

  Once he has done this, you can reset all the other settings (Apple ID, text Forwarding)

  If the number is actually disabled on iPhone then many aspects of Messages do not work.
