MacBook Pro or Macbook Air

I plan to buy a new Macbook with a limited budget of $1 099,00 even as the price of retina not MBP and MBA, I want a retina no MBP but when I read some blog, some users indicate on the MBA. I hope that someone help me on how to decide.

Here's my preference:

  • Surf the net
  • watch movies
  • Download mp3 and movies (no matter if the cause of 128 GB MBA or 500 MBP I have an external hard drive)
  • some offices works as a weekly and monthly report (word and excel)
  • sometimes play games like tomb raider, of nba2k14, of call of duty (lower priority)
  • can be extended to all the latest OS X cause I'm plannning to use long term (I'm worried about MBP cause its almost 4 years of material and I think that in the near future there won't be upgraded to the latest OS X after El Capitan)

Thanks for the quick reply Pmintz25

I guess my post was deleted by the moderator, yes I compare a 13 "MBA and 13" MBP not the retina and I'm sorry for the price, it should be $999.00, I am not that active in video in youtube, I just surf the web, watch movies online, office stuff, and downloading of music and movies. I just need a laptop for my daily use and no worries for the development of a new os x, I heard somewhere that retina of MBP 13 "will not update in the future os x or it will slow down during the update, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm a PC windows user and this is my first time to use a mac operating system. the sum of $200 is too and I save for further AppleCare.

  • MacBook air water damage recovery of data flash storage of air from macbook to macbook pro retina

Last week, I spilled water on my macbook air that extinguishes immediately after that.
It's been a week that I let it dry without attempting to start.

Unfortunetaly, I did have a backup for 2 weeks, (of course bad luck should come at the wrong time), and I really need to get my data from the flash ssd drive.

I thought to transfer the player of Flash ssd of the macbook air to a macbook pro retina and retrieve the data since the macbook pro retina by making a backup. Would this work? This would not damage the macbook pro retina?

I have a macbook air early 2014, the macbook pro retina is also the same year.

Thank you very much for your answers.

    Best regards.

You'd better using an external enclosure of the MacBook Air SSD rather than MacBook Pro.

  • MacBook pro 2012 vs air 2015

    Hello!

This is my first time buying a macbook and I'm really confused

    I can't decide between 2015 macbook air (13 '') and the 2012 macbook pro (13')

Air has 8 GB of ram, 128 flash storage, while the pro has 4 GB of ram and 500 GB hard drive

Flash storage is faster but the air is not extensible I guess? And the pro has a much more powerful processor so I can not just take a decision!

    Thank you

It is not clear that the MacBook Pro has better processor. Even if the speed of the processor is greater in the MacBook Pro, the processor in the MacBook AIr is a more modern and more powerful processor by GHz. In addition, Air has a better graphics processor.

Youy can upgrade storage in the MacBook Air (but not memory)

  • My new work MacBook Air with my WD MyCloud mirror? He is currently working with my old MacBook Pro.

I'm about to upgrade my MacBook Pro 7.1 (13-inch mid-2010 with OS X EL Capitan), a MacBook Air. I currently use a WD MyCloud mirror for the back upward. I'm afraid that my cloud mirror will not work with my new MacBook Pro? Can you tell me if they will be compatible?

If you use OS X El Capitan on your MacBook Pro MacBook Air will have the same OS X so I see no reason why he would not compatible. If you connect to it via an ethernet cable from the Pro and you want to do the same thing with Air, you will need to buy a NIC for Air

  • The image quality of MacBook Air vs Pro

    Hello

    I just bought a MacBook Air 13 "and I got a MacBook Pro 13" (non-retine) till now.
If I compare the image quality between Air and Pro there is a difference of contrast and sharpness of the colors. The monitors setting is the same on both Macs, the Air is even supposed to have high resolution (1440 x 900 instead of 1280 x 800, the MacBook Pro). Graphics card is Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB vs 4000 in my MacBook Pro.

Anyone know if there is a difference in both computers display technology, or if this could be a problem in my Macbook Air?

THX in advance and best regards

    Products and specifications:

    MacBook Air (13 ", Anfang 2015)

    Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz

    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB

LCD display is different between Pro and Air. Don't know which group is better.

  • Logic Pro / Pro Tools on a Macbook Air

Looking to buy a Macbook Air 11 inches for portability. You wonder how Logic Pro and Pro Tools 12 X running on this, logic especially since I'll probably use that more. I was able to run Logic Pro 9 very well on an old iMac (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB of memory) - more than a dozen securities using several plugins - although if I remember well Pro Tools 11 had more problems. Storage space is not big, but I use an external hard drive for non-current projects.

I'm no problem under Logic Pro X and Pro Tools on a MacbookAir 12.

However, mine is the version 13 "and 2.2 ghz processor i7, 8 GB of RAM, so it's the highest specification.

And I use an external flash drive.

I recently met a guy, he runs Logic Pro based 11 "Macbook air, without problems, if it does not use a lot of tracks or plugins.

the macbook air is too large, very light.

I would go for the higher specification that you can afford to really, with the 13 "those offers a bigger processor.

with Pro Tools, you suffer on the basic 11 ".

  • Why my preferences of MacBook Air (Yosemite) do not show all of the options that show on my MacBook Pro (Mavericks)?

Each time, click on "Firefox - preferences", I get only a partial view of the options that are displayed normally on my MacBook Pro (Mavericks). If I click on a different subtopic, preferences to close and reopen the preferences, I get a more complete screen on THIS subject, but never have I could see "saved passwords" or "Change Master password" on the MacBook Air.

This seems very odd. It would be useful to see what you're talking about. Can you post some screenshots of the respective preferences and describe the difference you see?

  • 8 GB vs 16 gb? MacBook Pro vs. Air?

I'll buy a laptop for school. Focusing on the macbook pro or macbook air (13 inches). I use them mainly for writing with a Microsoft Office Suite. What I was asking is what the difference really is between the two (not to mention that the fineness of the air) and if I need 16 GB or 8 GB.

For Microsoft Office, 4 GB of RAM will be more than enough.  More RAM as is necessary for the resource intensive applications very.

If the school is your main activity, get the Air.  It is lighter for portability and has many battery best time of execution.  8 GB of RAM will be further.

If there is some discretionary funds left over, purchase of additional storage.  You don't need the fastest CPU.

    Ciao.

  • MacBook Air 13 vs MacBook Pro 13 Retina Display

Hello! I worked as a teacher in a dental school & I'm an orthodontist by Profession.

So far, I was using a Windows laptop. Now, I am planning to buy a MacBook.

I did some research and I found two best options:

MacBook Air 13 inch or Macbook Pro 13 inch Retina display

My work includes the drafting of documents, Internet browsing, electronic mail, preparation of presentations. We also regularly take pictures of our patients. I will also use the software of management of patients. Watch movies from time to time.

Please help me to choose between the two options above.

What configuration (RAM & storage) agree?

I intend to keep the MacBook for next 5-6 years.

I also read in some messages that some changes are in the pipeline for Macbook Air in this year.

    DR. VIKAS SEHGAL

    India

There are always changes in the "pipeline" but we do not know what they are and we are discouraged from their review.

If what you have described is your needs, an MBA and a MBP has them will satisfy.  As I see it, it's a matter of your preference of views respective (classic vs retina) and costs are related.  The MBA has long battery life and is lighter than the MBP, but maybe it's not important to you.

    Ciao.

Addendum: as a general rule, install at least 8 GB of RAM and get as much storage as the bank account permits.  The processor speed is by far the less important material.

  • It is good to use Final Cut Pro on a MacBook Air?

It is good to use Final Cut Pro on a MacBook Air?

    Hello...

You might find a 13 "inches screen a bit small for editing in FCP, but you can try the free trial > http://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/specs/

Minimum requirements of the FCP for RAM is 4 GB but 8 GB provide a better workflow.

To see how much our Mac RAM is installed in your Mac, click the Apple  menu at the top left of your screen.

In the drop-down menu, click on: about this Mac, then check the "View" tab is selected.

The amount of RAM memory installed is noted here.

  • MacBook Air and Macbook Pro for a country with a moderate speed internet

    Hello.

Please can anyone provide me suggestions on what kind of Macbook (preferably between the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro) to buy? I will be moving to Nigeria and will love a stylish laptop that I can use when there is a poor network.

    Thank you.

The two manage networks in the same way... slow food makes slow refresh, fast food done fast refresh.

My concern would be supported in Nigeria.  New units of the retina are sealed and cannot be repaired easily, and if you perform self-service you cancel the warranty Apple Stores years FSAA (Apple authorized service providers) are your best source of support.

Keep several good backups in case of failure, as although Macs are reliable, the bad parts pass through.  There are also thieves in all regions of the world who love bright shiny Macs.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 - Macbook Pro and Macbook Air does not print

    Products:

    • HP Officejet Pro 8600
    • MacBook Pro (Mac OS X, Version 10.7.5)
    • MacBook Air (OS X, Version 10.8.2)

    Question:

    • Why my Mac initially print fine, but now will not print?

    Full article:

I have a wireless network in my house that consisted of a 30 MB cable internet, Netgear 900n, HP Officejet Pro 8600, 2 laptops from Dell with Windows 7, a laptop Lenovo with Windows 7 and Dell with Windows 7 trick, all printed matter very well.

The HP Officejet 8600 was added to my network about 2 months ago.

I added a Macbook Pro and Macbook Air about 3 weeks ago.  The two Macs printed fine for about a week.  Then suddenly they stop.  I spent about 2 hours on the phone with HP's Service, and finally, they said to my router.  So I called Netgear.  NETGEAR was useless!  They wanted me to accept fees for services before they would even discuss the issue.

As a result of information provided by the HP support service, and because Netgear will not support their product, I quickly bought a new router - an Apple Airport Extreme.

Macs will recognize the printer will print if connected via a USB cable, but do not print wirelessly on the Officejet Pro 8600.  The fine impression CPA.

The frustration that is felt is made up by the fact that Macs printed very well with the Officejet Pro 8600 2 weeks and now the printer shows just "idle"... even with a new router. (see image below)

Please help, thank you very much for all support.

As a side note, the representative of the HP Service was very friendly and definitely tried to support the HP product, which is much more I can say about Netgear.

    Thank you

    Hello

More likely a problem with Multicast, which Apple devices are relies on to communicate with the device through the network.

First try unplugging the router for 30 seconds.

Connect to the power supply and wait 2-3 minutes.

Turn off the HP printer and turn it back on, then check all difference.

If it persists, try to change the configuration of your router as follows

Note: the settings below are not related with the HP product, I provide you with the steps as a best efforts and those based only on my own knowledge. You can try to change the settings of the router at your own risk:

    1. Open the router configuration page (you'll find listed as the default gateway by clicking the icon on the printer wireless, then print a network configuration report.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. Click the configuration option in the menu, and then click Setup WAN.
    4. Be sure to uncheck the box Disable IGMP proxy transmission and apply the changes.
    5. Click on the LAN configuration on the same Setup menu.
    6. Set the RIP RIP-2 Version and apply the changes.
    7. Restart your router and then check any change.

I hope that you will find useful information, you can also use the guide to the user below for more information:

  • I have a new macbook air, how can I sync it to my current macbook pro?

Hi forum, I'm sure this question has been asked several times.  However, when I did a search I could not find an answer.

In any case, I have a new macbook air I bought for travel purposes.  At first, I didn't want to sync it with my macbook existing pro... now, I think it was a bad decision.  And... I can't understand how to "marry" the two.  I would like to use the macbook pro as my 'home' or ' base' machine.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thank you

    edevinco

You can sync things like photos, contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, etc. through the settings in the Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud.

If you have any documents, you do not want to be on both machines and synchronized you can do this by turning on iCloud drive in this same window of preferences and before moving the documents in iCloud drive folder. A way convenient to make this file accessible is to go in the preferences from the Finder, click on sidebar at the top of the Preferences of the Finder window and put a checkmark in front of iCloud drive in the Favorites section of this window.

  • MacBook Air vs Pro?

    Hello

I am a student and find that I need a laptop for my business school. I use my imac white 2006 (maxed out with core 2 duo 2.16 GHz and 4 GB of RAM), which will remain as a computer at home. What MacBook Air should I take or should I take a pro? If pro I could only afford a 13 inches from the retina. Or maybe I should watch refurbished? It would have used for the tasks of the normal school (word processing, e-mail, internet) and xcode shows.

    Thank you.

It depends on how much you want to spend. Air is less expensive, has good battery life and is much lighter. So that the Pro has more performance.

I have my iPhone and iPad, put in place t via iTunes syncing, but I can't figure out how do it with Air. I want my books and files PDF will appear on all devices.

Files PDF and non-librairie books, don't copy the cloud, you must manually copy/sync them on every computer/device you wish to on for example use AirDrop or flash drive to copy your pro in your Air

  • My HP Officejet Pro 8600 cannot print from my MacBook Air

    Hello

My HP Officejet Pro 8600 cannot print from my MacBook Air. It keeps on showing "the printer is not connected", but the display on the printer connected. I often reset the printer "EVERY TIME" I want to use. I also tried to turn off my laptop and printer several times before printing. If I'm lucky, it will work maybe for one or two prints. If no luck then I have to reset everything again. Sometimes I reset the printer, the printer is not displayed on my selection.

    Hello boojoo1tw,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that you are unable to print most of the time with your Officejet 8600. How is the printer connected? USB or wireless? What is your operating system on your Mac computer? Click here to find out.

If your wireless printer, then I recommend the award of an 'IP address' by following this HP document on printer does not maintain the wireless connection.

Please post your results, I'll be looking forward to hear from you.
