Managing 2 vsphere vcenter servers
We have 2 each Vcenter server running data centers. (Principal and Dr. Colo data center). In Vcenter 4, we had our configured client vsphere where we could both stop VCenter VShpere inside servers. I could log into my main data center and the VCenter servers were visible and manageable. (Even with our Colo). Somehow during our migration up to 5 VCenter, we lost that connection.
I would like to pick it up where I can see them both again.
Thank you
Looks like the linked Mode must be configured again.

Management of vSphere vCenter crash recovery
hardware server vCenter failed and two vSphere server are always associated with this server. You want to disassociate the two servers with the old VirtualCenter and establish a new connection with the new vCenter server.
Environment:
5.1 ESXi server (production)
4.1 ESX Server (production)
Server device (not longer exists / dead) vcenter 5.1 running on separate 5.1 ESXi Server
Scenario:
5.1 vCenter server to manage both production above vSphere servers. The material which housed the vCenter server has failed and is unrecoverable. Both servers are accessible through the vSphere client.
The ESX 4.1 Server I get the text next message when you use the vSphere client: "this host is currently managed by the vCenter Server Server with the address IP X.X.X.X. changes to this host this session can now be reflected in sessions clients vSphere watching the vCenter Server.» The management host, under the summary poster tab: "this host is currently managed by vCenter Server X.X.X.X..
The ESXi server 5.1 has received the same message when you use the vSphere client until I chose an option under host of disassociate or disconnect with the vCenter Server Management (don't remember exactly what was the option). It succeeded, to some extent. When you connect to the server ESXi 5.1, it does not present the message indicated with the ESX 4.1 server.
A different vCenter server has been installed in an attempt to restore a centralized without success. Adding a server as a host to the data center generates the following error message: "failed to contact the specified host (serveur7). "The host may not be available on the network, is maybe a problem of network configuration or management on this host services may not respond.
Objective:
To dissociate the two servers with the old VirtualCenter and establish a new connection with the new vCenter server.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Can you confirm the new vCenter Server is properly registered in DNS and is able to resolve the names of domain the ESXi host's FULL name, i.e. settings of IP of the server vCenter, including its server DNS entry are correct? Are you able to connect hosts using their IP addresses, just to test if it works.

How to remotely manage the Vsphere VCenter?
I have a practical lab for vSphere configuration and a VC to manage my vsphere hosts. I wanted to know what are the ports should I open on my network if I want to use vSphere Client to connect to VC outside my network.
Thank you.
R@DHO
If you kept the default ports, then they need to do:
80, 443, 902 (UDP), 8080 and 8443.
You can also get a list of ports from: http://www.latogalabs.com/vmw-launchpad/vmware-network-port-list/

I'm new and VMware ESXi, but I'm learning and I'd like to better understand the different management products available.
I installed the free ESXi 4.0, so what software is available? (free)
(1) I can't download "vSphere Client" directly from my ESXi host. Is this different than 'vSphere' from the VMware Web site?
(2) what is the difference between vSphere and vSphere Remote Command Line Client?
(3) I have free access to vSphere vCenter? This is only used to manage multiple ESXi hosts at the same time?
Thanks much for any help!
One of the most interesting free tools from VMware is in my view VMware vSphere PowerCLI.
vSphere 4 is a suite of products. vSphere client is a product of this suite.
The host update is a utility that allows you to upgrade a vSphere (ESX or ESXi server) from one version to the other host. You don't need this if you start with the last update of the ESXi 4.0 version 2.

VI3 environment with vSphere vCenter management?
I could manage my VI3 environment with vSphere vCenter?
I could add a Cluster VI3 to vSphere vCenter?
Hi, Yes, you can, but you must install a license server and configure it with the .lic file to manage the licenses for ESX3.5
Then, in Vcenter, go to Vcenter server settings, licenses and configure the license server location.

How to update 2 for 4.1 vSphere vcenter server?
I have vcenter on a primary site and also a site of recovery (with SRM) and I also have VMWare update manager. We have balance sheets quarterly internal vulnerability run and two servers vcenter came with high vulnerabilities with crossing of directories on the two ports 9087 and 9084.
Here are the CVE Vulnerability:
http://CVE.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2011-4404
We have installed 4.1 and in vSphere client if I do help > about it says 4.1.0 Build 491557. How can I put it to U2? I tried scanning with VMWare update manager, and he came to the top. I downloaded the 4.1.0 - 493063 full blown vSphere which includes 2 update that is supposed to address this vulnerability in my opinion. The issue is when I try to launch it on one of the vCenter servers it does not give me an option to upgrade. When I run the installation of the vCenter server it gives me "edit mode configuration" linked or "Uninstall" I don't want to do either of these options... I just want to improve as I did from 4.0 to 4.1.
Thanks for the help. I just download the update 2 "patch" If there are so.
If you perform the upgrade:
You can download the SRM 4.1.2 here:

vSphere/vCenter client and web services
Hello
Don't vSphere client (or client to vCenter earlier) invoke web services of vSphere internally to perform operations on the ESX Server?
I'm new to VMware developemnt.
As I understand it, it's the client vSphere or vCenter is a management console. An actioan/operations such as create VMS or cloning images actually occur on the ESX servers or hosts. Web services are hosted on the ESX servers. When we perform an action via client vSphere/vCenter (e.g. create the VM), internally, it would be invoking appropriate API provided by the web service SDKto do you need.
My understanding is correct?
If you connect to vCenter or ESX host (i) themselves by using the Client vSphere, the majority of applications using vSphere API... I say majority because I do not know there are undocumented more that VMware uses behind the scenes, but in general, it is true. If you perform an operation in vCenter and it applies to a host, vCenter will communicate this request to the host.
If you're new to QALY/SDK: you can spend the time to enter the section "Learning" of the developer forums, there is lots of useful information here: http://communities.vmware.com/community/developer/learn
Here's a great doc Getting Started with vSphere SDK - Update for SDK 4.1 release that has a lot of information/explanations on how it all works, you should spend time passing on it and then ask questions in the appropriate follow-up, if you need more detailed explanation.

Qual a difference between vmware vsphere, vcenter, workstation?
OLA pessoal,
Nunca trabalhei e com VMWare estou com doubt no deferred than tools vsphere, vcenter, workstation.
Preciso testar uma Solução virtualizacao. Vou rodar dentro Windows 10, where seja, NAO preciso UM hypervisor rodando no como Hyper-V server hardware.
So one size rodando no Windows para testar Doi servidores com some specific management.
Me cadastrei no site da VMWare para testar a versão trial, mas não sei qual software download.
ATT, Fabio
Para sua need you can use o VMware Workstation or VMware Player o.
Sober as diferencas, o VMware Workstation e uma Solução virtualizacao type-2, or seja, roda em cima of some system operational, alem do VMware Workstation we have outros exemplos como o VirtualBox e o Microsoft VirtualPC antigo.
JA o VMware vSphere, ESXi e uma Solução virtualizacao do Tipo-1, or seja, roda diretamente em cima material, e por isso some vezes e re-usable chamado, e alem vSphere, ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V and Citrix XenServer o o we have.
Por ultimo, o VMware vCenter Server nada but as UM software para os servidores com VMware vSphere, ESXi gerencia.

Hello
How are they managing authentication on several servers of vCneter in a script without storing the passwords in the script?

Here's the script:
SE connect-VIServer NAN - vcenter - 02.utility .net - User script-user-01
SE connect-VIServer HKG - vcenter - 01.utility .net - user administrator
SE connect-VIServer ORY - vcenter - 09.utility .net-user special-script-user-01
SE connect-VIServer CNF - vcenter - 06.utility .net - user administrator# Download info, sort, email me-VMs.csv

#Thank you!
Potentially, you can store your password as a string that is encrypted in a text file as I described here Powershell: securing the credentials using the PSCredential class | Deans blog
This will allow you to recover the encrypted string and convert it into a secure string supplied and this move to the PSCredential class for authentication.

'Disconnect' a managed host to vCenter Server: practical application?
The vSphere client offers the possibility to "unplug" a managed host to vCenter Server (right-click > disconnect).
I was wondering in what situations it would be used/useful? He influence the virtual machines running on the host? Is "reconnect" everything just like linking to the departure to a new host?
mudage
Here is what I use the button disconnect to:
I have an old vCenter 4 install with 10 ESXi 4.0 hosts, I now build a vCenter 5.5 system and need to migrate to this vCenter but I can't have all the time.
So, I hit the button disconnect and then add the ESXi 4.0 host in my new vCenter, then at my convenience I then host 4.0 on a host 5.5 vmotion.
I hope this makes sense to you.

Support for multiple instances of vSphere vCenter
I installed the demo of (construction 4.4.0 - EE #1509 - July 28, 2010 - Release Build) Hyperic 4.4 company Web site to test the support of monitoring VMware vSphere 4.0.
I have installed an agent Win32 on W2003 server which hosts the 4.0U2 of vSphere vCenter server and configured it. Once resources have been configured, I edited the VMware vCenter resource to add a user/password valid and after a short while the ESXi host servers and virtual machines appeared in the vSphere browse/HQ screen. Everything works well.
I then tried to add a different vCenter server with its own ESXi host servers (with a new agent installed on W2003 this server) and that's where the problem starts. After that I added the name of user and password in the detail of the vCenter inventory, new ESXi and VM guests begin to appear under "recently added". When I go to the screen of vSphere browse/HQ original vCenter disappeared and a mixture of the other vCenter servers host and its own host servers appear under the vCenter newly added.
I would be able to monitor the 2 different vCenter servers?Multiple vcenter instances are supported. When you configure the resource, be sure to use the IP address of the box instead of the default loop address. When HQ sees multiple vcenters air-conditioned and come with 127.0.0.1 in the URL of SDK, it blends. Configuring IP should solve the problem you are experiencing.

How to make backups without vSphere/vCenter
We are one of the companies at low prices that only use ESX, cannot get them to buy me vSphere/vCenter again.
Not much, we have only 8 physical hosts, so I can manage it with the vSphere Client a host at a time.
Is there a smart way to make level vm backups in my situation? I can export OVFs manually, or copy the files from the virtual machine to a store in offline mode, but these two need to cull the virtual machine. (you cannot copy or move a machine virtual everything in its place)
Is there a way (with vCLI or powerCLI) to maybe make a snapshot, move the snapshot offline, and then delete the original... or something like that?
I'm really just looking for a smart way to make level vm backups that don't require bringning to the bottom of the virtual machine, and that perhaps I could automate with a script so its more of a real-time continuous data protection.
Already did you look in the scripts of lamw ghettoVCB?

Is it possible to migrate a virtual machine between vcenter servers programmatically?
Hi all
My question is quite simple:
-Is it possible to migrate a virtual machine between vcenter servers programmatically?
Let's say we have two data centers:
vcenter1
-vm1
-vm2
vcenter2
-vm3
Is it possible to migrate vms between vcenter2 and vcenter1 programmatically? (or vice versa)?
Also, I'm assuming that the appropriate VLAN and data warehouses across the different vcenters!
Thank you
Luis
It is not possible, vMotion or migration live is in an instance of vCenter, it cannot be covered through two even if you have the data store accessible both vCenters and sets of the host. At best, you can unregister the virtual machine of vCenter 1 host and re-save as on vCenter 2 host, but once again, it is while the virtual machine is turned off.
