Pretty much what is said. I've updated to the latest Firefox, and now this really irritating thing happens... There are also a lot of places. Specific things:
- By clicking on the address bar of all, does not bring the thing little cursor flashing and gives me generally no indication that I actually clicked on the URL. Even with this small google search thing in the upper right corner.
- More frustrating, when I press on enter after putting in a URL, it will not even go to the site.
- After having upset both of those things, I try to type something on a Web site, and although the URL is immutable, it starts to fall a lot of suggestions from my story.
- Finally, when I'm doing my crosswords on the Washington Post, and I switch to a different tab to type something on there, it is not pass my typing thing - it remains on the crossword, typing things into that, rather than in the input field, I clicked on start typing in.
So, Yes, it's very embarrassing, and I'd be delighted for all the help for these issues...
I look at the FAQ and they said something about the thing AVG SafeSearch, causing one of my problems, but I do not have this extension, this certainly isn't that!

On the address bar, when I write something, I would get Yahoo instead of Google search results. I don't know how to change it because the Options under the Tools tab do not seem anything which changes the search engine for the address bar.
There is a hidden preference that you can edit to make it use Browse of Google search of name that has been used in Firefox 3.6
- Type of topic: config in the address bar and press on enter
- Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
- Locate the preference keyword. URL, double-click it and change its value on the link below
http://www.Google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF - 8 & SourceId = navclient & gfns = 1 & q =
If after changing the preference it is still using Yahoo, there will be an add-on that is the cause. Check for modules of Yahoo and if not necessary to uninstall them. If you have the add-on of net assistant freeze.com , which can cause research go to Yahoo, uninstall this add-on - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

When I enter a web site in the address bar, he did a search on google, which is very inconvenient. I did research and discovered that I should enter ' subject: config ' and change preferences. The problem is that when I enter "subject: config ' I just do another search in Google and can't change preferences.

I have reset Firefox. I get all recently warning of security windows on a BTRoot certificate is not invalid. Before that, I used Google since originally installing Firefox, now when I try a search, I get a problem with page load error. I have firefox on another computer and the same search goes along. I can also use any other search engine in your library, and they work fine as well. Why not google? Can I fix by accepting the certificate in windows?
Follow these steps, but the problem still exists. Eventually completely uninstall Firefox, restored my PC to a restore point prior to initial installation, and then reinstalled firefox. Now, everything works fine on my old windows XP computer and my Google search is ok. It has also eliminated my problem with a BRTRoot problem where I apparently had a fraudulent site interfering with Google.
Thanks for your help. -
They are small pop up windows. When I start to enter key words to search for, very often these things pop up and not a single one. A lot of them. Popping each other on the other on the other. I can't enter anything again in the Google search box until I closed all the windows. And, usually, the ones many of them will appear again when I enter my search in the next letter.
This is what it says in the pop up box:
Along the top it says in clear blue margin 'search for opening.
Under the foregoing and in a white box, he said:
"You have chosen to open.
[a symbol Windows] search
which is a: application/json from: https//www.google.com
Then on the sketch of an inner box, it reads "that should Firefox do with this file?" and it gives the following options:
Open with ["Browse" button] DownThemAll! Save File [This one is checked as the default]
Then a check box with the text next to it: "cela automatically for files like this in the future.
Under this is a button 'OK' which is in gray and cannot be controlled and one button 'Cancel' which may be. I have never done but used the 'X' at the top right of the box to close this window.
Now I see that I have limited options for "Happen" for the frequency. It is not every time that Firefox is open, but it is MUCH more common than 'a few times a week'. More like several times a day.
I erased the Max, disabled all extensions and then restarted my computer. I tried to raise the problem with the Google search and it didn't happen (yet). I then re-enabled only the modules that really make me more easy life on the net, and once again, the problem has not (yet) surface.
I don't the tag as resolved for a few more days to be sure it is resolved.
Thanks for the help! I hope it's resolved now.

suddenly I'm asking as a new tab and not google search - driving me crazy
Ask the home page is driving me crazy. I want my google search customary as that which opens when I press on the new tab. I was everywhere on the internet to try to fix this. nothing works.
Since there are different options/settings of the standard page in a new window or a new tab, could you confirm if you have one or two of these problems:
- Ask if poster at the start, in a new window (Cmd + n), and when you click the Home button
- Ask appears when you open a new tab in the same window (Cmd + t)
For these two problems, the first thing to check is an unwanted extension. You can view, disable and often remove the extensions on page modules. Either:
- CMD + SHIFT + a (Windows: Ctrl + Shift + a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then take a critical look at the extensions listed on the right side. If in doubt, disable or remove if possible. Remember that all extensions are optional, none come with Firefox.
Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.
Which allows you to regain control of your homepage and view the standard Firefox new tab page?
If so, here are the details on how to restore your preferred homepage:
If you find that it works in your session (Cmd + n and give you good home page), but after leaving Firefox and commissioning once again you have bad home page, look for an optional settings file named user.js in your profile (personal settings folder) folder. Firefox uses the settings in this file at startup to override your preferences since the previous session. You can check and delete the file by following the steps in this article: How to fix preferences that will not save (there is a specific section on the user.js files).
Display Google in a new tab page requires a different approach. From Firefox 41, the browser.newtab.url parameter is no longer used because it was constantly attacked by malware. Now, you need an add-on to change the new tab page.
Here are a few options (I'm learning more all the time):
- If you are already using the "Restorer of classic theme" or "Tab Mix Plus" extension: There is an option somewhere (!) in his dialogues of the parameters to select another page in the new tab.
- If you want to use your new tab homepage: Try https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/
- If you want to set another page or a completely blank page: Try https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/
- If you want the cursor to move in a search box in the page: Try https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab/
Use only one of these methods at the same time, otherwise there may be conflicts and dysfunctions.
Setting up substitute new tab and new tab custom
After installing one of these extensions, you must use the Options page to set the new desired tab page (instead of use subject: config).
Open the page modules using either:
- CTRL + SHIFT + a (Mac: Cmd + shift + a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the side right, find the new tab replace or custom new tab and click on the Options button. (See first screenshot attached).
New tab Override
Depending on the size of your screen, you may need to scroll down to enter the address in the form. (See second screenshot attached). For example:
- (Default) page thumbnails = > subject: newtab
- Blank tab = > subject: empty
- Built-in Firefox homepage = > topic: welcome
- Any other page = > full URL of the page
Then tab or click this form field and you can test using Ctrl + t.
Custom new tab
It is easy to enter your favourite homepage address. If you check either of the boxes, the expansion will set the focus in the page as well, for example, the cursor will be in the Google search box. (See third screenshot attached). I had to leave Firefox and start it up again before new custom tab started working, but this may have been due to tests so many extensions back to back.

For example, when I enter the search term "cabinets" and get a page/tab search results with suggestions such as Sears, JCPenney, or Amazon, I want to be able to click on Sears and open the Sears page in a new tab/page. I want to be able to close the tab to Sears and use the search results tab.
Google offers a framework for this. What it does, it adds a HTML (target = "blank") statement to every result link, which causes Firefox to open in a new tab. If you uncheck the preference to divert new windows in new tabs, Firefox will then open the result in a new separate window.
This preference is stored in a cookie, if you clear your Google cookies often, so you'll need to reset every time. You can do so here:
https://www.Google.com/preferences
(On this page, Google refers to a new window.)

Since Firefox v34, search results page is empty, 1) by clicking a link in a Google search results page and loading of the linked page, 2) Zoom on the text on the page that Google took me and then without resetting the zoom text, 3) by clicking on the arrow of Firefox 'Back' to return to Google search results. If at that time I reload the page of Google results, or click back one page and will transmit then again, the full search results will be displayed then again.
This happens on my Windows 7 PC as well as my Vista laptop. Is it a glitch with text zoom and Google in Firefox version 34?
Sorry, this seems to be a problem with the cache in memory of Firefox: when you use a high Google zoom level the (the default setting) with "instant prediction results" then Firefox pips showing again after going back page (you can see the results for a fraction of a second before they white).
Assuming you like your zoom level and enjoy using the instant prediction results, then the solution is to disable the part of the Firefox cached in memory by changing a setting under the covers.
(1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.
(2) in the search above the list box, type or paste sess and make a pause so that the list is filtered
(3) double-click the preference browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers and change the value from-1 to 0 (that's a zero).
(Please change not all other parameters similar to 0-sounding or you can disable the ability of Firefox to save/restore your tabs and windows open).
Then reload the page of Google results and the test.
Fixed? (Or should I say, worked around?)

Everytime I open a new tab, I'm greeted by this page
http://blog.Mozilla.org/UX/files/2012/05/Firefox-beta-13-redesigned-About_Home-Page1.PNG?128c42
Is a small problem for me, because when I want the cursor at the beginning in the adressbar. So, if for example, I opened a new page, I type in imdb.com I receive directly on imdb.
Today, however, with the Home tab firefox screen. I have to do a google search for imdb.
A small problem perhaps, but enough to be annoying.
Is there a way to move the settings or something similar, and keep the cursor in the address bar after you open a new tab?
Hello
If you only want the new tabs do not have home page, you can change it by going in your Subject: config page and replacing "browser.newtab.url" Subject: vacuum. For me at least, if I open a new tab on a white page, the cursor remains the address bar.
In order to change your Firefox Configuration please follow the following steps:
- In the address bar, type Subject: config
and press enter. The subject: config "this might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
- Click on I'll be careful, I promise! to keep the comments: config page.
If you also want to change your home page to a blank page, you can do so in virtue:
- (on Windows) Tools > Options > general, or
- Menu
> Options (preferences on Mac and Linux) > general
Then change the dropdown to "when Firefox starts:"so that it is set to 'Show a blank page'.ยป
Note that you can continue to do research on the awesome bar and search bar where you want to do a Google search.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

So whenever a highlight a Word and right click it to "Google Search for..." she switches on the new tab that opened up. How can I stop it? I tried to go into tools > Options > and disabling the thingie, but which only works for links that I opened in new tabs. Do not search with google.
There is no way to stop it?
Thank you!
Hello, here is how to change this behavior: enter about: config in the address bar of firefox (confirmed the message information where it appears) and search for the preference named browser.search.context.loadInBackground. Double-click it and change its value to true.

I put tabs to open a blank tab, but each new tab has now google search images on it.
I did not choose as a google search engine - I won't be using google. I have tabs set to open a blank tab each time. I want a blank tab without the google search bar.
This is related to the behavior of tab instead of search engine.
Follow these steps, and you will not see Google as again search engine.- In the address bar, type Subject: config and press ENTER.
(Topic: config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.) Click on that I'll be careful, I promise! to keep the comments: config page. )
- Type browser.newtab.url in the search box.
- Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and change the url to Subject: House to on: vacuum. Alternatively, you can change it to Subject: newtab for Firefox to new home page tabs.
- Click OK, and then close topic: configuration tab.
I hope this helps.

I want to search for messages, but the search box wants rather Google search!
In Xubuntu 14.04 24.5.0 Thunderbird. Your help indicates that the research above the filter box will search for messages but mine happens only with a Google search on the web!
When you type less than 3 characters in the search box, the option is to Google search. Less than 4 characters, the options are Google and the corresponding entries in the address book. Less than 5 and the options include "the Messages mentioning: asdf" and Google. For example, you must enter a string of at least 4 characters.
