Maximum capacity of ssd on hp pavilion dv7 - 3165ev

I want to add a second drive (SSD) in computer HP PAVILION DV7 - 3165ev, what is the maximum capacity that can take (SSD)? example: I add a 512 GB SSD?

The system BIOS ver: F.1D

DV7 - 3165ev says:

Thanks for the reply

You're right, it's too much 512 GB, I found a sumsung 250 GB SSD, but I don't know if the motherboard supports. The 512GB I put as an example.

Because the system works on SATA 2, I don't know if the motherboard can support an SSD (SATA 3) will downgrade the SATA 2 speed or not be recognized by the motherboard.

The disk SATA III will function as a SATA II but should be recognized. I don't know why but all the readers, I installed in my laptop always worked anything and especially solid discs that I stopped using current hard disks long ago.

If a Pro of Samsung 256 GB running on a laptop, I see no reason why the same Samsung Pro 512 GB should not be working on the same computer that they probably use the same SATA controller.

    Hello

I want to upgrade my computers hardrive portable SSD-Drive. It says on my laptop service guide that only intel based model supports on the ssd drive. However, my flag has AMD Turion. Anyone would confirm, weather, I can upgrade the HDD-> SSD?

In addition, if the upgrade is possible, can I install the current HARD disk drive in the second location on hard disk? If so, are there needed additional cables/adapters.

I tried to find this info on the HP partsurfer, but no luck.

    Hello

Much better now. The following link shows the specifications of your machine:

    http://support.HP.com/au-en/document/c02776731

It's a HP Pavilion dv7-6010eo. Currently it has 500 GB SATA (7200 RPM), you can switch to the SSD. You can also put a second HDD of your machine, but you need to caddy and connector. Please visit the following link:

  • I would like to add an ssd for my pavilion dv7

    Hey

I own a pavilion dv7 4050eb, and I'm looking to add an ssd.

It has 2 compartments to put a hard drive in my notebook, is currently being used, and the second is empty.

So I thought that it would not be a problem.

But when I went to my local computer specialty store (where I bought this laptop), they told me I will not work if the cable connection for a second hard drive and support was not provided with my laptop (which is you case) because they can't get those of HP, no matter how hard they try.

Is there really no way that HP can provide these simple parts (cable and support)?
And if I could get those, would there be any problems whith install an ssd in this specific book?

    Thanks in advance.

You can find the part number for the hard disk hardware kit in the guide Service & maintenance dv7. You can order the part of sellers online or directly from HP online parts store.

Hard disk hardware kit (not shown, includes right and left mounting rails,)
cable connector, Mylar cover with tab, 4 screws and 4 rubber Insulators) HP p/n 605415-001

Yes, you can add a SSD. Your laptop might even have been bought with a SSD when ordered online.

  • DV7 - 3165ev: HP Pavilion dv7 - 3165ev change/Upgrade CPU

I saw in the manual series DV7 cpu i7 support, but not for specific models like dv7 - 3165ev.

My goal is to replace the i5 m430 with an i7-720QM or 820QM i7, as they seem to be compatible with my model.

Is there a limitation of BIOS and the system board that these CPU may not work?

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

This manual seems to relate only to the Quad Core models. Other similar models of dv7 motherboard is different for the dual core and quad core so models before trying to upgrade the processor, I would check the motherboard model number that is generally printed inside the memory compartment.

It must be 575477-001 if the Quad Core processors are at work.

  • Pavilion dv7-6178us: SSD SATA dv7-6178us which is Compatible with my laptop?

I have a Pavilion dv7-6178us laptop 'hand', and I would like to change the existing hard drive.  I understand that it came originally with a 750 GB SATA drive at 5400 RPM, but I inherited mine with only 100 GB SATA, OUCH!  I would like to upgrade my drive to a SSD for the best possible performance, and then add a larger disk for storage.  When you are looking for different drives, I came across SATA I, SATA II and SATA III and I can not figure out which is compatible with my computer or what he came originally with.

Which SATA (I, II or III) is compatible with the dv7-6178us?

What is the largest compatible SSD, or should I expect for the best performance?

What is the greatest player I can additionally ADD the SSD for storage?

Which SATA (I, II or III) is compatible with the dv7-6178us? Specification the SATA is backward compatible. This means that disks SSD SATA type will work in your notebook. The SSD will be made only to the level of specification SATA your SATA controller is capable of. If the controiller is SATA150 so your SSD SATA600 installed work bandwidth SATA150.

What is the largest compatible SSD, or should I expect for the best performance? , You can install one with the largest capacity you can afford.  I would recommend not to install a larger than 512 GB. My own brand preferences are Intel, OCZ Technology, Samsung and SSD Crucial.  Purchase of the SSD in upgrade kit is the simplest solution. Upgrade kits come with a SATA to USB cable and cloning software making it a fairly simple process to upgrade the laptop. See the post-it that I wrote at the top of the section of portable equipment for some details on this.

What is the greatest player I can additionally ADD the SSD for storage? I recommend you not to install any disk hard legacy with a capacity greater than 1 terabyte. There is no guarantee that a superior who will work as expected.

The following information is the maintenance guide & computer Support laptop dv7 to refers to the physical size of existing hard drives.

    6.35 cm (2.5 in) drives supports hard drives to 12.7 mm (. 50 inches), 9.5 mm (. 37-in) and thicknesses of 7.0 mm (. 28 - in)

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx - do not pick up the Samsung 840 Evo SSD for clean installation

    Hello

    Laptop model: HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx

I bought a new Samsung 840 Evo 500 GB SSD and going on to replace the main HARD drive. Tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate on it using the USB bootable Win 7, it loads the installation and starts ok and then he asks to load the driver for any device and gives you an analysis of the option to see if there is any storage device to select for installation. It clearly shows that it does not pick up the SSD.

Unfortunately the bios insydeh20 V3.5 has no possibility of even check if it is detected or so.

What do you think is the problem? The BIOS update would solve this issue? or is there any other work around that.

    Thank you

    Mike

Before I went ahead with the method you suggested, I tried updating the Bios with the latest version and voila... system picked up the SSD and all is well now.

    Thank you

Your machine can go a maximum of 8 GB of ram (2 x 4 GB modules) - an example of an appropriate upgrade can be seen on the link below.

  • HP Pavilion dv7 - 4083cl: support SSD SATA III?

    Hello

I think about adding a 2nd. hard drive in my HP Pavilion dv7 - 4083cl.

The current drive of 500 GB at 7200 RPM will be the 2nd. drive and a new SSD will be 1. drive (System and boot).

I was looking for this information, but I couldn't find the answer. My doubts are:

    1. the dv7 - 4083 cl does support SATA III? If I install a SATA III disc, will it work to its full potential, or as a SATA II drive? In other words, can I buy a SSD SATA II drive cheaper because I wouldn't have the performance of a most recent hard drive SSD SATA III?

    2. a 256 GB SSD support this machine? Or is it just up to 160 GB?

    Thank you!

    Hello:

You know the chipset specifications to determine what version of your laptop SATA drive will manage transfer speeds to.

Your laptop computer has a chipset Mobile Intel series 5 (HM55) who can run that hard disks to the SATA II transfer speed.

Not until you get to new Intel 6 Series chipsets and can they run SATA III drives to SATA III speed.

Here is the link to the plug on the chipset of your notebook.  Note the SATA 3.0 GB/S specifications.

    http://www.Intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/mainstream-chipsets/mobile-chipset-HM55.html

Since your laptop comes standard with a 500 GB HARD drive, I imagine a 250 GB SSD should work fine.

However, the recovery disks may not work on a smaller hard drive.

    Hello

I don't think that there is no limit on that. I think that whatever it is upwards to 500 GB will certainly work and probably same disks up to a 1 to. Samsung is a very popular brand with the Evo Series discs / Pro. I would go for one of them.

  • Maximum RAM on Pavilion DV7 Notebook PC

    Hello

I have a Pavilion dv7, QF272EA #ABD with 8 GB of RAM installed. Is it possible to increase the RAM 16 GB - what RAM Modules should I then? On official documents the maximum RAM is 8 GB, but at the time, documents were made, no 8 GB Modules were available.

The BIOS supports 8 GB Modules? The laptop has two slots, so my hope is, if I replace the built in 2 x 4 GB with 2x8GB, I have 16 GB of RAM.

I'm sorry for my bad English. Thanks for your help!

    Thorsten

    Hi, Thorsten:

    Your English is very good.

Since your computer laptop is the Intel processor, you can install 2 x 8 GB of memory.

You need PC3-10600 memory laptop. Make sure that it is 10600, not 10660 or 10666.

See the manual at the link below, Chapter 1, page 6, for the info of memory.

Now, several manufacturers of memory have produced memory 8 GB PC1333.
