Hi Tom,

1. What is the format of the file you are trying to play?
2. you have made no changes to the computer before the broadcast took place?

I suggest you to set up Windows Media Center as the default device for playback of movies.

  • video error in media center, will not play videos or DVDs

I cannot read the DVD, Live TV, or ripped movies in Media Center on my computer (64-bit) of W7. I just upgraded to W7 (64-bit). However, I can play all content in Media Player. I read somewhere that MC uses 64-bit and 32-bit codecs MP codecs. Can I register the 64-bit codec or fix them somehow without completely re - install W7?

I found what was the cause of my video error message in MC. I had to disable the functions of exclusive Mode on the Advanced tab in the Audio properties for my audio device.

    1. right click on the speaker icon at the bottom right of the screen

    2. click on playback devices

    3. Select your audio device by clicking on it.

    4. click on properties, below on the right.

    5. Select the Advanced tab.

    6. the functions of exclusive Mode deselect the option and click on apply.

Who did it for me. Everything works 100% now. Finally!

Hope this helps you or someone else here with the same problem.

  • Windows Media Center will not play a DVD, I get video with a loud noise and no soundtrack.

When you try to play a DVD in Windows Media Center or media player, the video starts, but there is a loud cracking sound with no sound of music.   This Media Center has played the DVD in the past.

    Realteck HD audio
    ViXS Pure TV - U 48BO

I checked these devices using HP Hardware Diagnostic tools and they work.  I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled.  Also updated all the drivers.

Reading this forum, I tried to delete the file from library: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Medial Player

So far, nothing has solved the problem.

    Thank you for your response.

I went through the steps.  He has not fixed the problem.  The good news is that I stumbled upon a fix.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek Audio drivers.  Which corrects the problem.

    Hello

    Method 1:

I would suggest you click on the link provided below, proceed and check if it helps.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/972496

    Method 2:

You can also face this problem if your Windows Media Player database is damaged, you can delete the database of Windows Media Player. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) output Windows Media Player.

    (b) click Start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

(c), select all the files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

Note: you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    (d) restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If the above does not solve your problem then clear cache of database of Windows Media Player files. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) output Windows Media Player.

    (b) click Start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoftand then click OK.

    (c) select the folder Media Player and then click on Delete on the file menu.

    (d) restart Windows Media Player.

  • Windows Media Center will not play my video/DVD

I tried to play a video/DVD on my laptop and got this error:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD player and the video card protection decoder. Try to install a driver available for your video card.

I went to the Device Manager in the control panel and everything was listed as up-to-date and working properly.  What should I do?

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Answers.

It is obvious that the DVD is protected against copying. Therefore, you cannot copy the contents of the disc. But to read the DVD, you need a suitable decoder. If it is missing/corrupt/out of date, you may need to install the most recent.

Have you installed the readers of third party DVD like PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc.. ? If so, it should work.

    1. is this a problem with all DVDs that play you in Windows Media Player?
    2. what format is this DVD in?

    Method 1.
If other DVD play, the problem could be a scratched or damaged disk, or a problem of Codec for a particular disc.
You might miss a decoder codecs or DVD. A DVD decoder is another name for a MPEG-2 decoder. The content on DVD-Video discs is encoded in MPEG-2 format, as is the content of the files DVR - MS (Microsoft recorded TV Shows) and some AVI files. To read these articles in the drive, you need a compatible DVD decoder installed on your computer.

  • Windows Media Player will not play DVD

I have a problem playing a DVD on my computer using Windows Media Player or PowerDVD program. Can someone help me? Everytime I open the program and open the DVD, the program quits immediately.

    Hello Alharris06,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

What happens when you insert a DVD into your DVD-rom drive?  An application starts play the DVD?   How long have you encountered this problem?  If this has started happening recently you have changed something with your operating system?

I would first check that your CD/DVD-rom is updated with the latest drivers.  Go to start-> Type "Device Manager"-> select-> Select (+) Device Manager for your CD/DVDs, CD-ROM drive-> following right-click and select update.

  • My windows media player will not play a DVD

My windows media player will not play a DVD: Microsoft Windows 95 Version 5.1 (Build 2600.XP_SP3_gdr.111025 - 1629:Service Pack 3).  Download a free version of media player to play the DVD?  Please tell me the name of the upgrade and where to find the free download version, if so.  Thank you!

First thing that you do not run windows 95 if your build number is 2600.XP_SP3 it is a build number of windows XP.  Second, you will not be able to play DVDs using this version of windows and media player only.  The reason for this is DVD is a standard that a group of companies shut down and basically, they demand rights fees to use, it codec, which you don't have. You will need get a program that has integrated these codec (or find them somewhere).  Your best option for this is to completely abandon the but of the using Media player to play your DVD (unless you are looking to buy another piece of software).  There is a free option that I use on my machine Windows 7 Basic its called VLC is a free player that makes just about every format out there (not sure Bluray).  VLC uses its own codec (I think it's developed for the linux community orginially) rather than using the codec of the industry.  You can find the program at http://www.videolan.org/
