MegaRAID M5015 on ESXi 5.0

Having problems connecting to remote ESXi 5.0 servers to 15 MegaRAID running on a Windows 2008 R2 server. Windows server is on the same subnet as the ESX servers, firewall Windows and ESX have 3071 & 5571 TCP and UDP ports. On a single server, I got the "lsiprovider 00.04.V0.55 - 0006" vib installed, on the other I vib "scsi-megaraid-sas 6.607.06.00 - 1OEM.500.0.0.472560" installed, nor work. What else I can check / change to get this to work?

I use M5016 (aka LSI-9266/9271) but it could be similar with regard to M5015 (LSI-9260):

I updated the bios, driver, PMI, storcli all the latest version and after restarting the whole 'Storage' section disappeared from vSphere Client-> Configuration-> health of ESXi. But despite this, "storcli /c0 see all" could always get complete info on the controller, the tables and records.

Then I went down smis-supplier of:

VMW-ESX-5.x.0-lsiprovider-500.04.v0.55-0006-2619867.zip

a version of return to:

VMW-ESX-5.x.0-lsiprovider-500.04.v0.54-0004-2395881.zip

I restarted ESXi and State of health of storage was back again, with all the info (arrays, drives, battery, etc.)! So I guess there is a problem with the latest lsi smis-provider. Try to use the old smis-provider and see if it works for you...

  • It is possible to examine the status of heath on my RAID controller?

I have now installed ESXi with a new hardware raid controller and its working perfect, so now I think how I can watch on my diske is OK or fail?

Can I someway check my status of heath on my controller raid and eg. get a mail if somtings are wrong?

My raid controller is LSI MegaRAID SAS 9271-8i - 128xHDD

    Thanks for your time.

You must install the CIM providers for controller LSI/MegaRAID on the ESXi. But it seems that they are not yet available for VMWare 6.0, if you try the 5.5.

Check 'Software downloads'-> 'Management software and tools' article on above page LSI.

Thereafter, you need a workstation on the same subnet and you can install MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM) and connect to the CIM provider.

Here's a KB on LSI for VMWare 5.0 for example tools, but you might find more / more detailed by Googling a bit descriptions: VMware KB: ESXi 5.0 Server Management Tool media LSI

  • ESXi 5.0.0 not recognizing a RAID Volume on LSI MegaRAID.

    Hello

I have a C220M3 with 9266-8i, LSI MegaRAID SAS controller. I used the utility MegaRAID to create a RAID volume, which appears as a virtual drive 0 in MMIC. My ESXi 5.0.0 installation (on flex flash) does not recognize this volume and I can't use it as a data store.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

Try to use the installation program OEM customize for Cisco as a CD installation virtual image using KVM or, Alternatively, you can burn it to a CD:

  • LSI MegaRaid 9240-8i on ESXi 5.0 MegaCli

I've implemented an ESXi 5.0 with LSI MegaRaid 9240-8i controller machine. The controller works fine and I was able to load the PMI provider such as the controller is displayed correctly in the State of health. But I really want to be able to use the MegaCli command line tool. I loaded the MegaCli executable but when I run it it fails ask libstorelib.so. Does anyone know what I should charge for making available? I searched throughout sites LSI and Vmware and am not finding anything.

    Thank you

Copy the file from a host ESXi 4.1 existing. its under file/lib. Also when you not copy to copy to a volume vmfs or NFS/lib I did once and restarted, poof gone, had to re do it again

  • Problems with LSI MegaRaid 9260-8i and ESXi 4.1

    Hello

It's my first dappled in virtualization and got everything works pretty well for me except for one thing: esxi 4.1 does not allow me to use all the storage I allocated on my table of RAID5 on my LSI MegaRaid 9260-8i card. When I go in the vSphere client and try to create a data store, it recognizes the 2.73 TB logical drive except when it creates it is only 739,5 GB in size. Am I missing something here? I can't expand it, and it doesn't seem to be running from one of the physical disks, I have attached a few screenshots to illustrate the problem.

Thanks for any help in advance!

You create scopes of 2T and assemble them.

    I had to do this:

    localhost > /c4 set autocarve = on

    localhost > / c4 add type = disk = 0-3 name = RAID0 raid0

    localhost > / c4/u0 show

Unit status % RCmpl %V/I/M VPort UnitType band Size (GB)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    U0 RAID-0 OK - 256K 5587.89
    U0-0 DISK OK - p0 - 1396.97
    U0-1 DISK OK - p1 - 1396.97
    U0-2 DISK OK - p2 - 1396.97
    U0-3 DISK OK - p3 - 1396.97
    U0/v0 Volume - 2048
    U0/v1 Volume - 2048
    U0/v2 Volume - 1491.89

Then you can create the data store by using three volumes.  Create it with the first, and then increase with the other two.

  • Dell M620 (VRTX) blade - ESXi 5.1.0 Update 1 installation upgrade to ESXi 5.1.0 Update 3 (latest)

This morning I did an installation of upgrade to ESXi 5.1.0 Update 1 to ESXi 5.1.0 Update 3 (latest Version) on one of the blades of my VRTX M620 three 3.  I have the same problem that I met about a year, when I tried to update 1-2 update.  I had to go down to 1 update to see the data store.

With update 3, the data store does not appear on this blade.  I did a scan to see if the data store is present, but he did not.  Also, I restarted the blade which did not help.

I have to keep upgrading to 3 update due to the necessary correction of problem CBT.

How to troubleshoot and resolve this problem of my data store does not?

Note: I have very little experience with virtualization.  I just found today on how to access the interface from the CLI of blades.

    Thanks in advance.

    SOLVED.

The original sas megaraid drivers (even installed on the blades of M620 Dell) had to be installed.  It is my understanding that several versions of the megaraid sas driver provided on the Dell ESXi ISO are meant to satisfy the VMware HCL for this material.  However, the more recent does not show the data store.

  • UCS C220 M3 custom problem after installing ESXi 5.1.0 Cisco

    Hello world

I m using a Cisco UCS C220 M3 when I tried to install ESXi 5.1.0 custom Cisco after complete the entire process and restart the server. The ESXi has not started it appeared as if there is no operating system.

In addition, before installing ESXi I configured a HDD in RAID 0, initialized the RAMDisk and chosen as a pilot.

    Hoping someone could help me.

    Llianovich,

Unfortunately, the on-board controller is not supported with ESXi.  I saw other people using this controller for VMware and makes the work but the behavior is very random and it could work or fail at any time. It is recommended to use one of the controllers of basic PCI or Mezzanine by the ESXi (see c220 m3 datasheet below)

  • C200 M2 LFF does not see the disks in the start menu after installing ESXi

So in front of me, I have a brand new C200 M2 LFF with a single E5606 processor, 20 GB of RAM and a controller LSI Megaraid 9260 - 4i and 4 drives of 1 TB SAS. I put the disks in a RAID 5 array, I created a 10 GB virtual disk and properly installed ESXi on it twice, with a second virtual disk to be used as a data store.

However, I can't get the thing to boot. It isn't even an option. The only storage in the boot menu option corresponds to the DVD player. If I look at the mass storage controller configuration, in fact, 0 and 4 SATA ports are "not installed" and port 5 has the DVD player.

I tried fiddling with the settings of the BIOS without a bit of luck. Currently, the integrated controller is enabled and the SATA mode is set on improved (which seems to be the default, and what is recommended with Megaraid cards). It is a bundle (UCSC-DBUN-C200-102 by delivery, which seems to be a number of separate reference only), so I didn't have to assemble whatever it is and I guess that all the cables are connected at the factory. I opened the server, and I can say that all the cables look connected.

Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I have to open a case with the TAC, that's good, but seeing as I can't actually install the operating system there must be something stupid miss me.

Disable the onboard Controller. This is software raid ICH10R.

Reset. Then in the fixed CIMC/BIOS boot order and pint at the LSI.

For the most recent ESXi 5.0, go to VMWare and search for ' ESXi 5.0 cumulative 2.

  • ESXi 5 cannot see the logical matrix

    Hello

I install a new UCS C220 M3BE for CUCMBE 8.6.2 (with UnityConnection). As much as I understand the documentation, I'm supposed to install ESXi first. I have an ESXi cd which was delivered with the box (version 5.0). In addition, in MMIC, I got an LSI MegaRAID SAS 9266-8i, and the box came with a pre-configured RAID 10 array of four discs (total 929 GB usable).

So far, the problem is that I can't get ESXi installation to recognize the logical drive.

I don't have any experience with the servers of the UCS. So far I know only a few things on ESXi and I had put it in place in a lab at home with CUCM.

Should I cisco.com driver package? I'm downloading everything on time, however, I don't see an option when installing ESXi allowing me to specify all drivers...

    Any ideas?

    Thank you very much

Make sure you use the correct EGGS for the BE6000.  There is a 1000 EGGS to CUCM user and another user 1000 EGGS for CUC supported only on the C220 you have.

You install an another VM by app.

  • No persistent after upgrade - 5.5 ESXi storage

I'm new on ESXi and I'm unable to apply the patches.  Some background information on the server:

Single ESXi 5.5.0 host on the 2068190 build

The server is a Lenovo ThinkServer TS140.  In the BIOS, SATA is configured to AHCI.

I have a RAID LSI (model 9341-4i) card installed as well.  I suspect that this very relevant to the question.

When installing ESXi, I created a custom ISO supplied with drivers for the storage card (I don't remember exactly, but I believe that the installation of the operating system has failed until I did it).

I use the command esxcli software install-d /vmfs/volumes/[DATASTORE]/[PATCH_FILE].zip vib to apply a patch, and the CLI informs me that it is successful.  I see the identifier of the version reported as 2143827, which is the next update, so everything seems successful.  However, when I restart, a message informs you that "the esxi host has no storage persistent after reboot" and none of my data stores are.  I reboot once more, and the version identifier restores to 2068190, and my data store and virtual machines are all working properly again.

I found similar symptoms reported here: http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/no_persistent_storage_after_upgrade.php

They suggested allowing "LVM. EnableResignature ".

However, I have found that there is no option of LVM in vSphere under Advanced settings and can't find LVM anywhere in the user interface.

I also tried to add storage as shown here: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1011387

However, when I went to "Add storage" no storage device included.

Does anyone have an idea as to why the ESXi host won't take the patches and how to fix it?  I am happy to provide more details, if someone needs.

    Thanks for any help.

In this case, the issue is likely, that custom vib megaraid sas - required for your RAID controller - is replaced by the update:

    2015 03-20 T 11: 37:40Z esxupdate: imageprofile: DEBUG: VIB LSI_bootbank_scsi-megaraid - sas_6.606.06.00 - 1OEM.500.0.0.472560 is removed from the ImageProfile ESXi-Customizer

    2015 03-20 T 11: 37:40Z esxupdate: imageprofile: INFO: adding VIB VMware_bootbank_misc - drivers_5.5.0 - 2.54.2403361 to ImageProfile ESXi-Customizer

What you need to do is to ensure that neither the driver is not replaced (i.e. only install the required vibs, which might be difficult), or - after installation of the patch and before restarting the host - replace the megaraid sas-driver with the required one.

    ESXi 5.5 system requirements

When you install or upgrade to ESXi 5.5, ensure that the host meets these minimum hardware configurations supported by ESXi 5.5:

    1. Your equipment is compatible on the VMware Compatibility Guide. This includes:

    • Systems compatibility
    • Compatibility I/O (network adapters and HBAS)
    • Storage compatibility
    • Backup software compatibility
  • You have a 64-bit processor. VMware ESXi 5.5 only installs and runs on 64-bit x 86 CPU servers. He argues also that LAHF and SAHF CPU instructions.
  • You have a computer with at least two hearts 5.5 ESXi host.
  • The NX/XD bit is set for the CPU in the BIOS.
  • Your processor is supported. ESXi supports a wide range of x 64 of multicore. For a complete list of taken processors supported,
  • You have 4 GB of RAM. This is the minimum required to install ESXi 5.5. Provide at least 8 GB of RAM to take full advantage of the features of ESXi and run virtual machines in typical production environments.
  • Support for hardware virtualization (Intel VT - x or AMD RVI) is enabled on x 64 CPU (to support 64-bit virtual machines). For a complete list of operating systems that are supported with ESXi, hosts running virtual machines with 64-bit operating systems have these hardware requirements:
    • For AMD Opteron systems, processors must be Opteron Rev E or later.
    • For Intel Xeon systems, processors must include support for Intel Virtualization Technology (VT). Many servers which may include processors with VT support VT disabled by default, so you have to manually enable VT. If your CPU support VT, but you do not see this option in the BIOS, contact your provider to request a version of BIOS that allows to enable VT support.

Note: to determine if your server has 64-bit VMware support, download The utility of Identification of CPU on the VMware site.

  • You have one or more Gigabit or 10 GB Ethernet controllers. For a list of network adapter models supported, refer to the VMware Compatibility Guide.
  • You with any combination of one or more storage controllers are:
    • Basic SCSI controllers. Adaptec Ultra-160 or Ultra-320, LSI Logic Fusion-MPT and most NCR/Symbios SCSI.
    • RAID controllers. Reference Dell PERC (Adaptec RAID and LSI MegaRAID) RAID HP Smart Array or IBM ServeRAID controllers (Adaptec).
  • You have a SCSI drive or a local, off-grid, RAID LUN with unpartitioned for VMS space.
  • For Serial ATA (SATA), a drive connected through taken SAS controllers supported or supported integrated SATA controllers. SATA drives are supposed to be remote, no premises. These discs are not used as a partition to scrape by default because they are too far away.

Note: you cannot connect a SATA CD-ROM device to a virtual machine on a host ESXi 5.5. To use the SATA CD-ROM device, you must use the IDE emulation mode.

  • You use a supported storage system. ESXi 5.5 supports the installation and start-up of these storage systems:
    • SATA drives. SATA drives connected behind the SAS controllers supported or SATA controllers support built-in.

      • LSI1068E (LSISAS3442E)
      • LSI1068 (SAS 5)
      • IBM ServeRAID 8K SAS controller
      • Smart Array P400/256 controller
      • 5.0.1 Dell PERC controller
    • SATA drives. Support SATA edge include:
      • Intel ICH9
      • NVIDIA MCP55
      • ServerWorks HT1000

Note: ESXi does not support using SATA internal disks local to the host server to create VMFS stores of data that is shared between multiple ESXi hosts.

  • You have disks Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) supported for ESXi 5.5 installation and to store virtual machines in VMFS partitions.
  • You have dedicated disk SAN Fibre Channel or iSCSI.
  • You have USB devices supported for ESXi installation.
  • You can install and start ESXi a FCoE LUN using VMware software FCoE adapters and network with FCoE adapters discharge capacity
  • . See the documentation for storage for more information about installing and initializing ESXi with vSphere FCoE software.
