Memory of DM1 showing only 3.6 GB usable

I just bought the Pavilion DM1 Notebook.  There the chip AMD 450 with 4 GB of memory running with Windows 7 - 64 bit (according to the control panel)

It shows that only 3.6 GB of memory is usable.  I'm planning to switch to 8 GB but not if it is not addressable.  Am I missing something?

Thank you

It's logical. Thanks for the info.

    Hello

That means the POST (power on self-test) screen appears; 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM?
All memory is recognized in the BIOS?
If so, then the memory has been recognized correctly and Windows 7 64-bit should be able to use all 8 GB of RAM.

For me it is 8 GB in two 4 GB sticks.  I am running Windows 7 32 bit in a Dell Optiplex 380.  Of course, I would appreciate the opportunity to use all my memory.

    Thank you

It is a very old thread, but... in order to use all of your memory, you need to install a 64-bit version of Windows.   About 3.25 GB is the maximum that can be used by a 32-bit system.

Great running except the RAM machines show only 2.99 GB usable on a total of 4 GB installed. I know it must re-mapping of memory, but I can't find any information to enable this or even if this machine can support?

Can it be supported natively, or with an update patch or BIOS/driver, I think that the BIOS is 1.6.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

The amount of RAM is recognized in the BIOS? It shows the full capacity of 4 GB?

Theoretically, updating the BIOS could be worth a try. I put t know which model you have exactly but European models the BIOS update can be downloaded here:

No, there is no problem, other than your lost money by buying
    more than 4 GB.

All versions of Windows 32-bit client (XP/Vista/7 not only) have a 4GB
address space (64-bit versions can use much more). It's the
theoretical upper limit beyond which you cannot go.
But you can't use the whole address space. Even if you have a
Address space of 4 GB, you can only use around 3. 1 GB of RAM. It's
because some of the space is used by the hardware and is not available for
operating system and applications. The amount you can use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but can
range from as little as 2 GB to 3.5 GB. It's usually around
GB 3.1. you are a little below this average.

Note that the hardware is using the space, not the real address
The RAM itself. If you have a larger amount of RAM, the rest of the RAM
goes unused because there is no address to map space to.

  • In Windows 7 has 4 GB of ram but only 2.75 gb usable

    Win7 32 bit os.
    AMD phenom II x 2 550 processor
    4 GB of ram

but it shows only 2.75 GB usable.

    Why so much?

A 32-bit operating system is not able to use more than 2.75 GB of RAM (maximum addressable memory is 2 * 32, which is about 2.75 gig). In order to use full 4 GB of RAM, you need a 64-bit operating system.

    Hello

X 86 Windows will not be able to see more than 4 GB, so it will not work. Now, JUST try to 4 GB to see (and normally its usable is around 3.25 to 3.75 GB).  If you want to use more than 4 GB, you need 64-bit operating system.

    Kind regards.

  • Qosmio G30-10 b: BIOS shows only 3328 MB instead of 4 GB of memory

I've updated by laptop 4 GB of memory. The reports correctly that 4096 MB in the BIOS screen. When you start however it shows only as 3328 MB and that's obviously what Vista reports. (I know that 32-bit Windows systems probably will not see any memory, but probably checking the BIOS boot should display correctly).

Last update of the BIOS was done - running on v3.50

If the BIOS recognizes all 4 MB of memory, so I don't think it could have a bad influence on the performance of the laptop.
As you already suggested the whole 4 MB can be recognized by the operating system 32-bit Windows due to the limitation of the system.

  • Upgrade memory satellite A110-103 - the Bios shows only 1 GB of RAM

    {color: #000000} Dear Forum Toshiba,

I own a Toshiba Satellite A110-103 (PSABE6) bought in 2006 of the Belgium.
I have trouble about an upgrade of RAM for this laptop. The laptop was originally a Samsung 512 MB of RAM.
I tried to upgrade the RAM to its maximum capaity supported 2 GB.
I bought and installed 2 Kingstone SODIMM 1 GB Value Ram DDR2 PC2 4300 units compatible with the laptop, but

in the BIOS, I see only 1 GB of RAM.
I tested each RAM separately and they work very well. The problem is that when I install in my

locations of the laptop, my BIOS sees no Ram.Instead 2 GB 2 GB, it shows only 1 GB. I updated my BIOS for more later

version 1.70 (for XP), but the laptop continues to show only 1 GB.

    I tested the RAM separately:
-inserted only 1 stick in the drive and the pc started ok showing 1 GB of RAM
-then I inserted the same stick in another location and it also worked well showing 1 GB of RAM
    - then I checked another unit of the RAM in the same way and worked well
-When I try to put 1 GB of Ram and the old 512 MB RAm the BIOS correctly showed the new value of 1.5 GB
-i also checked the other 1 GB of ram and the old 512 MB of ram and showed good again in the Bios with the value of 1.5 GB
    - but when I tried to put the 2 ram set units to obtain the BIOS only detected 1 GB 2 GB.

Here's the description detailed 1 GB modules that I try to install:

    SLOT #1
    The module size: 1024
    Band Max bandwidth: PC2-4300(266Mhz)
    Manufacturer: Kingston
    Reference number: 9905293 - 0.14A00LF

I think the problem is that the two s of RAM are not compatible, but it is not explained to me because use you two identical modules.

In your case I return the RAM to the computer dealer and say the modules work together in your notebook, but your laptop definitely supports 2 GB of RAM.

I think that there is no other way because you have updated your BIOS to the latest version.
Here is the part number for RAM Toshiba compatible:

  • Pavilion 500-246: GB of ram it shows only GB why usable?

I also try to install a GeForce 8400 GS with 1024 MB ddr3 pci-e 2.0 and cannot operate. If I plug into the video card and that you start the computer NOTHING on the screen at all. S ' PLEASE HELP.

    Hello:

The memory problem you reported is normal.

Part of memory has been reserved for some devices of system such as the integrated graphics card.

The issue of the video card does not...

I see the product that your PC came with factory-installed W8.1.

In order to get a video card no HP to work, you need to change 2 settings of the BIOS before installing your video on any PC card that came with W8 or newer version of the factory.

See this link to change the BIOS settings.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03653200/

Also before you install your video card, you must uninstall the graphics card in Device Manager, check the box uninstall driver, stop, disconnect the PC and install your video card.

You can do this after you change the BIOS settings.

  • Satellite L30 PSL33E shows only 896 MB instead of 1024 MB

I bought a PSL33E with 512 MB of memory. I upgraded to 1024Mo by adding a second SAMSUNG 512 MB, exactly equal to the original. Instead of 1024 MB, it displays only 896 MB. What is the reason for this difference?

Is something related to the video memory, 128 MB, or can I have a problem in the computer? I removed the memory and it shows 448MB, boths memories and in both slots.

    Hello

You have a shared memory graphics card?

The actions of graphics memory shared the part of main memory and, therefore, the main memory does not show the full 1024Mo.

It seems that the difference of 128 MB (1024 MB - 896 MB = 128 MB) is used by the graphics card.
It's nothing wrong and nothing wrong. So don t worry buddy. Everything looks ok ;)

    First run Memtest86 +:
It runs from a floppy disk or CD and should eliminate or confirm if your one or more of your memory
sticks are bad or the values of the SPD in the BIOS are correct.
Let it run for as long as you can: 2,4,6,8 or several hours (at least 3 full passes), if no errors, then your RAM is OK.
