  • How to convert a Sunblade 100 (Sparc processor) with Solaris 10 for ESXi 3.5 Update 2 (X 86 processor)

    Hi guys!

    everything is on the subject

I have 10 Sunblade 100 and I want to virtualyse everything! Solaris 10 is running on it. My question is, is - it possible to virtualize it if the ESXi server runs on X 86 processor?

    Thank you very much!!!

ESXi does not work with SPARC and will not work. x 86 only.

If you really want to virtualize your solaris server, you must create the new virtual machine, install of Solaris 10 x 86 and then replicate services manually.

And of course, you need new x 86 hardware.

  • Windows XP: use of 100% Winlogon processor

We have a scenario where our CTO regularly uses a virtual image of our build of the standard workstation, it is under XP SP2 (soon to be SP3).  It connects to this machine via RDP by VPN or when a standard FAT client office.  Opportunities (increasing more often) when using the machine, the CPU usage goes through the roof and the memory begins to be consumed at an alarming rate.  In our initial investigations, we discovered that this is caused by the winlogon process.  Finally, the machine is running out of memory and actually freezes.  To date, we have discovered not what sup winlogon process actually causes this issue.  Our ESX host have been recently upgraded to vSphere 4.0, but this issue happening in ESX 3.5.  Would be very interested to know if anyone has experienced this problem and how they got around that.

  • the process Svchost.exe to netsvcs uses a lot of memory (~ 600 MB) and 100% cpu

I have windows xp edition sp3 family. I hit the power button to hibernate the pc but I think an automatice update was running.  Pc crashes when windows resumes after hibernation. I forced a re-boot, but now the svchost.exe to netsvcs process uses a lot of RAM and CPU. I have a Dell Dimension 8250 with 1 GB of RAM. Svchost uses > 600 MB of memory and 100% of the CPU unless I have stop the DHCP service. When I stop DHCP the svchost stops using CPU and memory affected slowly decreases to about 150 MB and remains at this level. But without DHCP I do have access to the network.

After installing SP3 recently I started having some weird problems, as I lost my printer and had to re - install the software. Also noticed that after re-booting and desktop appears completely empty, the screen turns white and the taskbar at the bottom will appear empty for about 30 seconds, then reappears. PC seems to be more slow tha before installing SP3.

I've tried everything. Nothing stopped the svchost to chew all the memory, virtual memory and time processor. Had to re - install windows xp.

  • Upgrading processors in Phoenix

I just have a question regarding my HPE 1120t Phoenix (I love by the way).  Mine is equipped with an i7 3770 - a MSI GTX 670 Power Edition (which I have added of course).  I also upgraded the RAM 4 x 4 DIMMs of 1600 MHz Crucial Ballistix memory and it has a 160 GB Intel SSD 320 as boot drive with Win 7 Prem (and a Hitachi 1 TB drive HARD 7200 RPM for storage). I have also set up and drive BD - ROM HP liquid cooling.  I am very happy with my computer and have not had any problems requiring any serious repairs/adjustments.  Not at all.  It is quite fast and is perhaps one of the best pre-built OEM you can get, if this isn't the best.  HP has a system of very good quality here, although their marketing department sucks, because nobody seems to know something on this platform and its released for more than a year.

My question is this: I recently exchanged for an i7 of used but in perfect condition 3770 k in the box for a Dell XPS 7100 not working platform (he had a good Phenom II x 6 1090 t. and a good GTX 560 Ti and PSU - but the mobo of fries and the case has been damaged).

So, as I'll put here looking at this box with an i7 3770 k in there on my desk the other day, I thought why not just drag the i7 3770 k in Pegatron Z75 of my Phoenix motherboard replacing the k no 3770?  I would get an immediate bump of 100 MHz in speed.  Nothing huge but mind you, but some.  In addition, the limited overclocking HP allows.

Since I was still under warranty I won't change the CPU if it could invalidate (t - he?) "I can't say through all this gibberish).  But after the expiration of the warranty, then why not?  I know how np (I've built a few devices drilling from scratch), and while I'm there I could remove the old paste and add a few new TIM MX - 4.

But would this process work without adjustments or BIOS update or hot flushes?  Because they are virtually useful the same processor, so I think that no adjustment would be necessary.  The Phoenix is available with a i7 3770 k now and I see by the specifications, the model with the "k" version uses my 2AD5 Z75 Pegatron same mobo, but I cannot find any mention of what version of BIOS is (my BIOS is version 7.09 dated Date 14/03/12).  Of course, there must be some type of UEFI which I have now for the HP OC' limited ing allows version k.  So I think that I should update the BIOS (which often causes problems).

Please HP experts, a few tips on this would be appreciated.  I'm not sorry, if I'm not (because it's a great platform already) and I can still sell the i7 3770 k, but I'm unwilling to try now if his permit, or if my warranty is up, if it is not allowed now.

Thanks - any tips/contribution is appreciated.

Please see this HP support document entitled 'settings BIOS for the mother Formosa'. Based on this document, I would say that the computer already has a compatible BIOS, UEFI. UEFI should not be necessary to support the processor 'K '.

  • VCA with processors different hearts?

    Hi all

My Cluster have four hosts ESXi with model CPU = Intel (R) Xeon E5645 of CPU @ 2.40 GHz-6 carrots. I need to add our existing stand-alone HP DL380G6 servers in the same cluster. Model of processor for the HP DL380G6 Server = Intel (R) Xeon CPU E5530 @ 2.40 GHz-4 nuclei. I know CVS remove UC has top model and create the line basis for the CPU features that are available in all of the central units and I don't know how CVS works with different physical cores of the processor? Please suggest me.

VCA or vMotion compatibility in general cares not at all on the number of cores that physical processors of your have. The layout is completely hidden from the guest, then it does not matter in a perspective of VMotion if you mix 4, 6 or 8 core hosts in a cluster.

However, what really matters, is the generation of CPU and the instructions of the respective most recent processors have as opposed to the previous.

Your Xeon 55xx processors belong to the family of Nehalem, whereas the 56xx are part of the Westmere family. Virtual machines running on processors 56xx natively (without CTS configured) or with Intel Westmere VCA base will not be able to be vMotioned on 55xx hosts.

So, you'll need the level of reference VCA of your cluster to the generation of Intel Nehalem.

  • Isolate processor core

Is it possible to dedicate a heart of processor together for a virtual machine?  With the processor affinity, I will devote a virtual machine at the heart of a processor.  This virtual machine running only with the heart that he has an affinity with.  However, other virtual machines can always run on this core.  How can I insulate a whole CPU core to be used by a single virtual computer?  The other processor cores should be free of any of a large number of virtual machines - run using Affinity processor for all the virtual machines so that a VM can have its own core is not an option.  I just need to dedicate a carrot to a vm, and keep the other each vm to access.

(Note: this is all terrible design and not best practices that I realize - it is independent of my will to tell how to do but be aware if it is theoretically possible)

    Thanks for the input

You are right. But remember that each vCPU is programmed according to the CPU scheduler.

    This means that:

    • 1 vCPU by pCPU
    • Timeslicing for the principle of equity, even if you isolate a Jepp. so a vCPU is going to be tended if it reaches the end of its timeslice, because no other vCPU run on the Jepp this will be scheduled immediately.
    • Other worlds, BHs and interruptions of must be published too, so assign a second Jepp to eliminate vCPU and competition for the time of the worlds.
    • The VMkernel uses all pCPUs available for the planning of its process, it does not take into account a virtual machine with the processor affinity.

    Tip:

    • If you are running on a NUMA node, set the affinity of the memory to avoid distant memory.
    • "Off to assign" the Jepp second on all other VMS as well, because the CPU scheduler can (more to the difference, but there is no guarantee) migrate the vCPU thread to the other processor for balancing purposes.

    Hello

Exactly, which is allocated by the parameters 'number of processors' and 'number of CPU cores? The first Option allocates threads (virtual processors) and the second the cores include 2 sons?

Not very useful to me on page 81 and 367 manual ist. Is there a better source?

Story: I am about to buy a new laptop that has a core i5 or i7 with two hearts and I think only 4 wires. Now I wonder if I can run two virtual machines at the same time, and how the settings are to do, if I want to allocate:

    (a) the base (or two threads) to a virtual computer

    (b) a wire to a virtual computer

    (c) a single thread to the host...

is is possible or do I have TO allocate two virtual machines for the same kernel?

    thx for the help

When you create a virtual guest machine, you can choose how many virtual processors (vCPU) there.  If you choose to give it 2 or more vCPUs then the options you listed above control how VMware presents these vCPUs to the guest operating system.

For example, if you choose to give a comment 2 vCPU, then you can either have VMware to present the guest with 2 core processors (virtual) or a single processor dual-core (virtual).  Things performance will be the same, but this option exists because some software are allowed on a base by processor (instead of a per-core) so there may be an advantage permitted to configure your comments in a special way.

The settings above have no effect on how VMware plans to run on your host CPU processes.  By default, VMware will use all the cores available host regardless of how you configure the options above when creating your guests.

Now, with all this talk about several vCPU invited road, I should mention that my experience you will have the best performance if you set up your guests with a unique vCPU.   In a virtualized environment, multiple vCPU / customer does not necessarily in the best performance.  I strongly suggest you create your guests with 1 vCPU and only increase their number of vCPU if tests show that the performance is increased.

You will certainly be able to run several clients at once on your host computer.  If you persevere with 1 vCPU invited, you will almost certainly run in performance RAM problems or disk well until you encounter problems CPU host.

  • Request is not the virtual machine RAM

Trying to install Quickbooks 2010 on a computer that already have Quickbooks 2009 virtual.  The virtual machine has 2 processors (excluding 4 Physics) and RAM 4024 (about 8 GB), which is confirmed through system / properties.  VMWare Workstation 7.0.0 build-203739 using.  VM is Vista 64 SP2 (basic machine is Windows 7).

QuickBooks setup.exe reports immediately, "your system has only 98 MB of memory.  QuickBooks.Requires at least 500 MB of memory. "This option is left...

Yes, that's what I would try (copy the contents of the CD to a directory on a drive, then edit this file framework.xml).

  • Taking image image redhat physical machine running on the virtual machine 1 core.

    Hello

I am woundering no matter I would get in trouble if I toke a physical machine linux image used vmware converter to make a picture of him and installed on a virtual machine with a processor?

I'm guessing that this might cause pilot or BONE problems.

Someone at - it experience with this?

    Thank you

    Dak.

There will be no real problem. Linux can work on 1core CPU even with SMP kernel installed perfectly. But it runs a bit slower due to additional unnecessary code in the kernel for synchronize processors.

The only real problem is that you will have 1 kernel instead of able 4 times less treatment and 4.

  • scelta CPU

    Hello to all,

bentrovati, sono nuovo e poco pratico in ambiente VMware (spero ancora by poco ).

I like to configurare an ESXI 5.0 Server che faccia da hypervisor a VM 3.

3 VM saranno dedicate an applicatives 3 diversi in Windows Server 2008 R2, e dedicated che comprare macchine 3 wants to implementare UN ambiente ambiente virtuale.

By i 3 applicatives sono state consigliate dal fornitore di tre CPU diverso tipo (e sono vincolato ad esse by introduced proposed price di una unfortunately)

software one: Intel Xeon DP/MP 3.0 Ghz

software b: CPU quad-core (generico dir poco...)

    c: Software Intel Xeon E5 2620 2000 Mhz

Wanting the strada della virtualizzazione, scelgo como a intrapendere' unica CPU che rispetti I requisiti frequently?

    Grazie per UN consiglio

    Ciao,.

IO non vedo honestly he problema. Delle tre che ti CPU asked han, the premium due sono simply because stra-vecchie e fuori produzione, specie lo Xeon DP (dual processor). Quindi, dato che delle tre più e recent produzione e an E5, sei of cpu has bordo, predni UN Server con queste e a posto con tutti i requisiti tre.

Party dal presupposto che oramai non e virtually may CPU collo di bottiglia, e UN processore moderno any ti offers tanta potenza di calcolo. SE pensi di avere dei colli di bottiglia sulla CPU, stai pole per andare ad usarla by Attività e molto verticali come calcolo paralleo, rendering, business intelligence, my one what punto e una cosa che priori sai.

By the evaluation, you assumi che all VM nothing eseguite sempre al 100% delle ability computazionali facilities 3.

    Ciao,.

    Luca.
