Midsize (v7000, ibm) and SRM

Hi guys

We will deploy 2 midsize Site A and Site B (backup site).

my colleague said that since the replication will be available SRM is not necessary... but I think it's so it will simplify the recovery activities?

Am I wrong?

or since I use replication, can I recover my site from A to B manually?

and also what are the two types or replication? which is better? Replication SAN or SRM?

Thank you very much

Its POSSIBLE to do recovery without SRM, but its very manual, error-prone and time-consuming, not to mention difficult to test and simulate.

SRM makes it a TON easier.

  • IBM midsize v7000, VAAI and storage plugin

I'm trying to understand what kind of support does the IBM midsize v7000 to NOTTM.

It seems that only the primitive VAAI 'zero block' is supported, but it requires the vmw_vaaip_t10 plugin to do this.

Apparently, even though I am familiar with storage and vmware I never need to use a plugin for different than default storage, even if I saw it several times when I change the path failover strategy I have never studied on how to change it.

Can someone confirm my conclusions on IBM midsize v7000?

If they are correct, do you know if supporting the other two primitives of VAAI in the roadmap?

Can someone tell how can I change the plugin to mw_vaaip_t10 and if and how this has effects on the strategy of path failover?

    Thank you in advance.

Primitive VAAI 'Reduction to zero of the blocks' is supported with vmw_vaaip_t10 plugin.

I have no idea of the roadmap VAAI

To configure NOTTM for IBM statements using the VMW_VAAI_T10 plug-in, use the following sequence of commands:
    # esxcli corestorage claimrule add - claimrule-class = filter - plugin = VAAI_FILTER - type = vendor - seller = IBM - autoassign
    # esxcli corestorage claimrule add - claimrule-class = VAAI - plugin = VMW_VAAI_T10 - type = vendor - seller = IBM - autoassign
    # esxcli corestorage claimrule - claimrule-load class = filter
    # esxcli corestorage claimrule - claimrule-class of load = VAAI
    # esxcli corestorage claimrule run - claimrule-class = filter

This is not an effect on the path failover policy.

Do it me know that responds to your request or you need more information?

    Kind regards

  • SRM with IBM midsize V7000

    Hello!

Please help me to solve the problem:

While I run the test of the recovery plan, I got an error:

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello

I have no experience with IBM Storage, but replicated LUN must not be mapped to the ESX host on the recovering site (site B). SRM should do the mapping when you perform a failover (or create and map the snapshots when test).

Check again your configuration of the SRA. I think you missed something.

Oracle Grid these days use ASM starts for vote and register files storage. So no need for a cooked cluster file system that must be mounted by all nodes. No need either directly with a gross storage logical unit number.

ASM uses the LUN of the matrix of storage/SAN directly (as devices of rough blocks).

Generally however, there are several I/O paths to that LUN on the SAN - in which case there is more than 1 device level o/s for this LUN. Multipath driver s/w addresses this and creates a logical (and redundant) device that sits at the top of several devices of i/o path to the level of the o/s.

You configure ASM to use devices of paths multiples (as devices of rough blocks) - and applying exterrnal, normal or high redundancy necessary when creating starts on these logical multipath devices.

The grid s/w and RAC database instances can then use ASM starts as cluster storage.

This makes storage much easier layer management - and also provide a number of useful features too.

This is also the approach recommended by Oracle Corp. for RAC - use ASM under the layer of management of storage between storage LUNS in the table and one side and CARS on the other.

    I solved this problem.

The problem was MRS. Server intalled on the regional settings of Windows Server 2008 R2.

My locale of the server was Turkish, when I install MRS I changed to English and installed.

Finally, I reinstall Windows Server 2008 R2 full English for the United States settings after installed SRM.

    It has been worked.

    Hi haideruet,

To make it work, you need power as Power Management & Power Manager, features Hokey and drivers Access IBM online user's Guide. Some of the old drivers must be run twice, their configurations get pulled to C:\Drivers... then make sure you run the installer from the documents mentioned too.

  • vROPs and SRM - protected Machines and placeholder VMs have different guest free space operating system

    Hi all

Question: Home - health - screen 'one or more machines virtual comments file systems are running out of disk space' has different values for MRS. protect VMs and VMs placeholder.

Someone has to meet a gap with machines SRM protected value of free space of different OS comments that the position expressed VM?   I've been enforcing a cleaning of the guests with < 5% free space.  When we clean up the comments, the alert is cleared almost immediately on the VM protégé (power on), but the position expressed VM is never a present according to vROPs value.

Is this a known issue? Is the problem with SRM or vROPs.  Are the vCenters related with MRS supported?

I'm under vRops 6.2.0.3528905 build 3528905.  We use array based replication and have a GB link between sites.  Replication occurs in less than 5 minutes, so this shouldn't be a problem.  I can still see the question once a day and VMS space have yet to synchronize or to get close in value to their counterpart protect VM.

    Thank you

    Luis C.

So after a discussion with the SRM team and vRealize Operations Manager, has identified vRealize treated VMs placeholder as ordinary VMs.   The interesting thing is that when a failover test is running that hard drives are connected to the VM placeholder.  All the information from disk are ingested in the vCenter site recovery.   Later this was my problem.  I had to open a feature request.  If any of you are in the same boat please do the same so they'll add logic in to MRS.   At the moment my solution was to create a dynamic group for turning off VMs and join the dynamic group to a policy with disabled alarms.

Updated all our vCenters to 5.5U2.  Also upgraded to the latest Vsphere replication as well. No problems.  Everything works fine.

Tried to (re) install with 5.8 SRM components

A site uses Windows vCenter, and upgrade went well, using P12 CA cert signed during installation.

Another site using Vcenter device.  When you install SRM 5.8 and p12 cert, receive the following:

    ---

    Could not validate the certificate:

    Details:

VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager of the customer are not approved by vCenter Server.

    ---

    and unable to continue

Tried to install the intermediate certificate on the host Windows SRM.  Also tried to add the intermediate certificate in the P12 cert but the message on the cert is not wrong.

Think it's something to do with the intermediate cert not given on the server vCenter, so unable to completely validate the cert chain.  Do not know if this can be installed on vCenter device is able to validate the string in this way.

Recorded a call about that, but I was wondering if anyone has encountered this and that she might have a work around.

    Hi Joel,

To put done SRM trust certificates in vCenter Server, you must do the following:

1 copy the cert CA (not sure if only the intermediary would be enough or the entire string) file in/etc/ssl/certs in Vcenter device

    2. run c_rehash in Vcenter device console

  • PowerCLI 5.5 R2 and SRM - how to check the status of a Recovery Plan?

I need to write a script that will examine the current status (apparently called a "RunMode") of a Recovery Plan, is the appropriate status (1 = Test, 3 = cleaning), then get a list of all virtual machines in a suitable specific folder and they will light up (wait 15 seconds between move them on to the next). There are reasons why the Recovery Plan cannot be responsible to do, so why do I need to write a script (the reasons have nothing to do with PowerCLI). And I have problems with the first part, determination of status.

Well, I managed to reproduce the problem and to understand what might happen.

First the error "you can not call a method on an expression evaluated to null." seems to be linked to the "Write-Output"PG ="$pg" line. When I remove the error to go away (I'm not a person of PowerShell so don't know why this is the case).

The second error (not not being filled seems to be linked to how they make the connection virtual computers SRM.) Specifically, you will need to establish the connection of VC and then do SRM login without specifying the SRM server, let that be determined by searching the SRM recorded with the VC you are connected to.

The following code worked in my environment when it is connected to the protected so site full of hope that it will work for you as well:

I have a few virtual machines configured with access rights only for me (my AD-domain account) and to all others, including all vsphere.local NOT ACCESS.

It is therefore correct that SRM can not read on their inventorymappings and thus not be able to protect them.

I gave the account MRS. rights of access and the error disappeared.

But: That the SRM service itself dies on is not a behavior that I expect in this situation.

    Seems to be a bug.

    ... resolved with the workaround...

  • NetApp and SRM

Hi, I have the following questions - can you help please:

    1. What is the latest version of vSphere in version 4, including any update (not the version 5)?

    2. What is the latest SRM version 4, including any update (not the version 5)?

    3. If you use NetApp SRA version is usable with both (1) and (2) above? and where can I find the download location.

    Thank you

    1 vSphere 4.1 update 2

    2 MRS. 4.1.2

    3. I believe that SRA 1.4.3. More info at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/srm_storage_partners.pdf. You can download it from http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/srm412/ZCVwYnRocHBidGR0cA== (under components, click on "Show details")

  • vCD and SRM

    Hello

We currently organize a VI infrastructure for a large number of customers. We have several different SLAS for these customers. For some we use SRM failover to our second data center, some have their own secondary site whereby we failover with MRS and for some we have not tipping at all.

How SRM integrates with vCD? Is it easy to integrate in the vCD and the differences between clients? Links to the documentation?

    Gabrié

Today, SRM does not integrate with objects based vCD.  You can use it for the management group, but not the "Compute" clusters in the sense of vCAT 2.0.  This is a frequently asked question, but from the moment unfortunetely it does not integrate directly.
