Migrate to the new server vCenter hw

I make plans to migrate all my my old hardware of server vCenter ESX hosts to a new (and much faster). Both vCenter servers are version 4. To delete a my old vCenter ESX host, I need to put it in maintenance mode. Maintenance mode means turn it off or by moving my VMs to other hosts.

Is there a way to move my ESX hosts to the new server vCenter without voltage VM?

Hi bjornl,

If you need to keep the virtual machines running on the host computers, while removing a cluster host, data center or same vCenter, and then select the option 'Disconnect' first. The host shows as grayed out and disconnected. Once in this state you can 'remove' the host of your first vCenter.

Create your new data center and then "Add host" Cluster in the new. Everything will be powered on your virtual machines.

The only issues I've had with this is if the original or the new cluster using vMotion improve compatibility (EVC). This aspect must correspond to both ends. Once you do this, it works fine.

Hope this helps,

Dan

  • The steps required to perform a migration to a new server vCenter using distributed switches?

We are currently on version 5.1 of vCenter and ESXi 5.1 on all our guests.  We use a vDS on our current server vCenter and will need to migrate to a new server vCenter soon.  Is there a documentation about the steps to migrate to a new server vCenter using switches distributed?  We hope to achieve this goal without any downtime.  The problem is that we need that VDS on our 10GB network for the aggregation of links.  If having to migrate guests at standard switches before moving them to the new vCenter server, there will be problems of network performance.

Because information about your environment are stored in the database of vcenter al you should just be able to stand up the new vCenter server and that it points to the existing database

  • application server oracle migration to a new server with SSO

    Application server: 10.1
    repository database: 9.2.0.6

    Old OS: Tru 64
    New operating system: Solaris

We just want to migrate to the new server. We're not modernize our versions of oracle. We continue to get username / password is wrong when we try to use single sign on with the new repository. When contact us the Oracle support we work around the race. They are simple and there is no documentary research he actually did this or knows how to do a migration.

Is someone did a migration of the repository with single sign on? What metalink document did you use?
Is it possible to simply export/import data?

you might be falling into this scenario.
the version of your database is the same, you have found the similar error stack, on executing the script of ssomig.bat even.

Please see this note on Metalink2: Doc ID: 430523.1

    '' Cause. ''

The 10.1.2.02 standards body. ssomig script uses the import/export utilities in its $ORACLE_HOME, 10.1.x. The SSOMIG script assumes that the metadata repository database is a version that uses the same current version of SSO import/export utility. In your case, this is not true.

This causes a problem when the source repository of metadata is 9.2 versions. In a database import/export utility perspective, this is an unsupported configuration, a newer version of export cannot be enforced against an earlier version of the database. An earlier version of export can only be run on a later version of the database. It is documented in the Guide of the database utilities.

    Solution
To implement the solution, please perform the following steps:

    On the source server
    1. run the House against the 9.2.x 101202 fight database catexp.sql.
2 copy files/directories SSO and Perl 101202 House Home 9207
    3. run the ssomig-export of 9207 House
4 copy the ssomig.dmp resulting and the ssoconf.log to the SSO target
    5. run ssomig - import.

  • Migration of VCenter 4.0 to 4.1 on the new server - database upgrade problem

    Hello

    I am trying to migrate from a 32-bit W2K3 vCenter Server 4.0 to 4.1 running on a new server W2K8 R2.

The servers have different hostnames and IP addresses.

The datamigration tool ran on the existing server and registered the relevant question of config. I run it on the new server, and he acknowledges that there is data on migration and launch the installation program. This will go through the first steps and connects successfully to the db SQL 2005 (which is on a separate machine) via the DSN. Then, it generates an error:

"vCenter server does not support the upgrade of database version 2.5u5 or below." Please upgrade the database to a supported version and try again".

Thus, the vCenter database is in an old 'format '?

    How can I update manually?

    Thank you very much

    Welcome to the community.

VCenter 4.0 DB is different from 2.5, for its strange.

Check the DSN configuration if you point to the correct DB.

  • Update/migration 2.5 to 4 on the other server vCenter

I read the vSphere Upgrade Guide. In particular at page 49 the topic "upgrading to vCenter Server on a different Machine and keeping the existing database" seems to correspond to what we intend to do.

We have a 2.5u4 physical vCenter with SQL 2005 local and we wish to migrate to vCenter 4 on a local virtual machine with 2008 x 64 with SQL 2008.

    Some questions I have:

Q1: What happens to all the 3.5u4 of ESX host? Are they automatically made the new FQDN to the new destination server name? Are they members of the same cluster...

Am I basically look the same except for: a) I am now on vCenter 4; (b) my vCenter server name is now different and GUESTS know this change.

Q2: What happens to all Virtual Machines? They are members of the same groups / pools of resources etc.

Basically, T1 & 2 are the same, the guide does not seem to explain what happens after the process upgrade/migrate as clearly as I would like.

Q3: What time is it "safe" uninstall the SOURCE server vCenter?

    VCP3 32846

    VSP4 VML-306798

All the guests reconnection and cluster reconfiguration will be done automatically. You don't have to do anything manually after the migration. Please make sure that the users and groups who use VC inherited is available on the new configuration also.

I think it will be a good idea to uninstall VC inherited when vCenter 4.0 is operational and works correctly with all the hosts and reconfigured clusters.

  • Apex 4.0 to 4.1 on the new server migration translated application problem

    Hello

I have a translated application works well on an apex 4.0 Server and want to upgrade to 4.1 using a new server.

I did what I do normally, export schema and application, and then import the schema and the applications on the new server.

This does not work for the main application, but it does not work for the translated application.

If I run the application right after having established import, changes to the login pages between two languages that I use, but when you try to connect with the second language, it gives me the following error (112 is the main language and 113 is the translated application)
    Error     Error processing authentication.
ORA-06550: line 2, column 37: PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol ".113" when expecting one of the following: ( ; is with authid as cluster order using external deterministic parallel_enable pipelined The symbol ".113" was ignored.
If I have "seeds" and then "publish" the application in the menu of globalisation so the second language does not work at all (it continues to display the main language in the selection of the translated application).

I went through a lot of threads and it seems to a problem with the translated applications.

Is there a valid way to make the translated application work for this migration?

    Teo

    Hello Teo,

export your 4.0 system XLIFF file development. Also, make sure you import your application with the same application id in the 4.1, otherwise all the internal IDS will move.

  • Upgrade virtual Center 2.02 VC 2.5 on the new server. Upgrade ESX 3.02 ESX Server 3.5. and add the new ESX Server.

    Hello

We are due to upgrade our VMWare environment. ESX 3.02 x servers virtual Center 2.02 and 3.  We have new material on which to install Virtual Center and we are also adding a new ESX Server.

I read various guides for virtual center upgrade and watched questions on the forum, but can not see everything that relates to the way I thought to do. I want to install Virtual Center 2.5 on the new server and I would refer her to the current virtual cenre database.  Is this supported?

I then install ESX 3.5 on my new ESX Server and add it to the virtual Center. Then I would start the upgrade / rebuild other servers using VMotion to migrate all VM the next server to be rebuilt on the new server running ESX 3.5.

    Would this work.

What is the best way to upgrade the virtual center of new material and a new Version?

Thank you for all the advice that can be offered.

    Kind regards.

Yes, it is an upgrade that is supported.  Don't forget there will be an upgrade for your DB schema and it may take some time.  Just make sure that you have a good backup of your DB before you start.

I then install ESX 3.5 on my new ESX Server and add it to the virtual Center. Then I would start the upgrade / rebuild other servers using VMotion to migrate all VM the next server to be rebuilt on the new server running ESX 3.5.

I agree entirely, I drive rebuild is the way to go.

Upgrade to the current version using the .iso image file.  Don't forget the license server, which is a standalone update and are located in the folder /vpx of the vCenter .iso

    Upgrade path:

    1 vCenter

    2 ESX

    3 VMware Guest Tools

Thank you for all the advice that can be offered.

I hope that was a little helpful as well

  • R there are certain applications in essbase. How do I know which is unicode and Nonunicode, so that we can migrate to a new server.

We need to migrate from old to new server, so is there a chance as change properties where we can know wheather the application is unicode or nonunicode, so that we can make similar in the new server applications by using the migration wizard, first by making applications same dummy and then use the wizard to migrate.

You change the properties in the database and not on the application level, try at the application level.

  • Migration of instance new server Unix AIX11i / 10g

    Hi all

We intend to migrate our application/database to the new server. Please let me know how to save/fast time of this migration.

I went through the document below, but it seems that this will consume more time.

    10 g Release 2 process Import/Export for Oracle Applications Release 11i [Article ID 362205.1]

    Application: 11i

    DB: 10G

    Platform: AIX

    Kind regards

Option 2: What backup should be restored? Do you mean restore backup DB with APPL_TOP, COMM_TOP & OA_TOP? We need to copy anything else here? and do we not have any document to this option?

Restore all files from node level database and the application without exception.

Option 3: To copy the files, we need to copy db_top, data_top, appl_top, comm_top and oa_top. We need to copy anything else here? and do we not have any document to this option? I hope we can run level dbTier/apps adcfgclone giving the source xml files.

Copy all the files mentioned in the doc of rapid Clone. If you chose to go with this approach, then you need not file context source as quick Clone will create new ones for you (must be identical to the source ones).

  • Mobile to a new server vCenter ESX host

    Hello.

For several reasons (including the old server vCenter 2003 x 86) I would like to move our ESX host to a new server vCenter (version 4.1 under Windows 2008 R2). Our ESX environment using HA/DRS and resource pools.

Is it possible to move the hosts to the new server without VM downtime?

I think disabling HA/DRS and then disconnect the old vCenter servers, then adding them to the new. That would be possible, or is there a better way?

And second, that things are lost that kind of operation? Data of performance and resources with Betclic, another?

    / Christian

    Hey there,

    The procedure is very simple:

    -Disable HA host monitoring

    -Disconnect the old vCenter host

    -Remove old vCenter host

-Add the host to the new vCenter Server

-You will be weather you are prompted to add all of the resources of the host with Betclic under a live of... the list resources or put all your VMS in pool root of the pole. Select them grafted in... so you can keep your resource pools. You can move the autour pools in the hierarchy on the new vCenter.

-After you have moved all of your hosts, you can activate HA host followed once again and check that the DRS has the settings you want.

You lose well obviously all performance data, but you can bring your pools of resources for the new vCenter.

  • New server vCenter Server

I am running a 3.5 environment, and I want to get to sphere.

I'll create a new vSphere vCenter server to manage my boxes of esx 3.5 and possibly update these boxes to sphere.

Currently, vCenter 3.5 I manage my esx boxes, and this same server is the license server.

Can I simply create a new server and then add my esx boxes in its inventory of management?

Do I have to remove these boxes on the other server vCenter esx?

Can the two vCenters be running at the same time?

And have point to the new server cVenter to the old server vCenter for licenses, or simply keep the old server up?

    justinscanlon wrote:

Yes, unplug and remove hosts from the old environment of vCenter and add a host in the new

Do I have to remove these boxes on the other server vCenter esx?

    Yes

Can the two vCenters be running at the same time?

No.... not if they use the same DB instance.  If you use a different instance of DB, then Yes. But you can't manage the same ESX host in both environments.

And have point to the new server cVenter to the old server vCenter for licenses, or simply keep the old server up?

You can use your old license for your VI3 hosts server.  Home - vCenter Server Settings.  Or you can install a standalone license server.

  • Upgrade and migrate to the new CARS without DBUA

I was passing through many different papers, reference materials, updating guides and similar. A common theme I see is that they usually keep saying that CCR DBUA is STRONGLY recommended for environments and a must (or almost) during the upgrade in a CCR environment. Since I am also migrate to a new server I can't use DBUA.

I've never done an upgrade or migration in a CCR environment, so what I need is a little guidance.

So I have a 10.2.0.4 database in a RAC environment and we are moving it to a 11.2.0.3 RAC environment. A method I'm considering is to activate the 11.2.0.3 CARS system to access the 10.2.0.4 file system and perform the upgrade using the command line Interface. So my question is can I put starting to upgrade the database under the 1 single node or several nodes? I have yet to find the right document, I'm sure I'll find it eventually, but advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you
    Tim

I made a few updates to RAC and prefer not to use DBUA. Especially because the upgrade without that it is not very difficult and the resolution of problems with manual updates is a lot easier to find out why DBUA complains...

    To your question:

When you run 'start upgrade' make you on a single node. The upgrade process upgrades the database, which is shared between all nodes.

Remember that before you 'start upgrade', you define CLUSTER_DATABASE = FALSE in your SPFILE, stop all nodes, then just run one to perform the upgrade. Search Support Oracle for more detailed instructions.

  • Problem after moving to new server vCenter

I moved vCenter to a new server by following this article:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 5850444

After editing the file vpxa.cfg with the new IP of the vCenter server and restart management services, all of my guests are still disconnected.  I tried to select "Connect" from the menu, which has been connected to the host.  However, HA not properly configures.  Has anyone seen these symptoms after moving to a new server vCenter? Ideas for how I can fix the problems?

More details can be provided according to the needs

    Thank you

    Jeff

Is / was enabled on this cluster HA?  Have your tried to disable HA on the cluster, and once that all your hosts have been added to the rear allowing HA again.

In addition, even if you did, you can restart the agents once again all hosts in the cluster

    > service vmware-vpxa restart

    > service mgmt-vmware restart

  • Agents of change to point to the new server IP

I built a new server with the new version, and I changed the agent.properties file to point to the new server and restarted the service agent without success.

    Idea?

Agents, what they will get, do./hq-agent.sh installer (or AC - agent.exe so on Windows95).
