Move a catalog to a faster drive.

I currently have my main 'gwcat-2 - 2.lrcat' catalog to what I think is the directory default ':...» D:\Users\George\Pictures\Lightroom ".  I would like to move to a faster drive.  Should I JUST move the lrcat file, or moves to the gwcat-2-2 required Previews.lrdata?

There are a LOT of things in lrdata! and would take a long time to move.  I have always been a bit confused by the difference between 'Previews.lrdatafa' and the directory cache (I already have on SSD cache directory).  -If you go just the definition of terms, it looks like a distinction without a difference.

Thanks in advance for any info.

George,

The 'lrcat' catalog is the only absolute. Moving previews (i.e. "lrdata") folder is optional. At least that your catalog contains several 10's of thousands of images she wanted to hold as long as the reconstruction of new insights. That being said, reconstruction of new insights from scratch often helps to eliminates some of the problems that may arise about their size and quality, especially for those images that have not been seen since before the last update of Lightroom. Also, and no matter if you move the previews or not, I recommend that you run the command Catalogue optimize after you move the catalog. This will ensure that all the crud of any recent import and delete sessions is cleaned.

  • Move a catalog to a network drive?

I just got a NAS for my Mac Pro and I am trying to figure out how to migrate my catalogs on the NAS. I spread them over several external drives right now.

I guess I need ot to Export in the catalog, but the network drivers don't show up as an option for the destination.

    How can I do this?

    Thank you

With Lr closed, try dragging the image files to disk NAS using the Finder. When everything is copied on relaunch Lightroom and do a right-click on the original top-level folder in the folder pane to open the context menu. Choose the location of the update folder, then navigate your way to the folder on the NAS drive.

Can I move catalog Lightroom 4 C: drive to another drive? My C: drive is full on a nearly new HP Envy window 8

Yes, you would move the file catalog using your OS and then when its on the other disk, double-click it.

You probably to move your photos too, again make using your OS and keep the same folder structure, then plug back in Lightroom by following the instructions in this article (see Figure 4): http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder-old.htm

  • How to move a catalog to an external hard drive?

My hard drive was full. So I moved all my pictures in my external hard drive but not Lightroom Catalog. LT will not work with a catalog on a network.

I am under Lightroom 2.7 on Windows Vista.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Photographs can be on a network drive, but the catalog must be on a local drive.  The local drive with the catalog can be a drive internal or external, just not a network drive.  Normally, I keep my catalog with photos to avoid any confusion, since I use more than one catalog.  For most people, a single catalog will work best.  Some people have had slow down issues with LR when the pictures are on a network drive, so keep that in mind.

  • To move photos & catalog of NTFS formatted disk on my Mac to a Mac disk in format

You want to move photos & catalog formatted NTFS drive on my Mac to a Mac disk in format. Problem is that I can't move them in Lightroom, because the disc is read only on the Mac.

Search Tuxera NTFS for Mac or other similar utilities. I used it for years to use external hard drives with my Mac and PC.

  • How can I move my images on a network drive

I am willing to spend my images to a network storage array.  I currently have several lightroom catalogs.  I have all my files on a single disk, as well as the OS and the application.  How can I move the image files so that all catalogs will work and where to find the new location?

You should be able to simply drag and drop files from the folders tree in the library of your network drive module. Attention to the progress bar in the upper left corner of the screen of Lightroom and make sure that you do not close Lightroom while the transfer is in progress.

The other method would be to use your system browser (Explorer or Finder) and move your images to the network drive. You would then follow the instructions below on how to recreate a link to your pictures.

  • Incorrect in catalog after new SSD drive letter

Had a new SSD installed in windows 7 desktop computer.  It is now the C drive and the old hard drive is F.  All pictures are on C as it's catalog (by the information in the title of the help system), but the catalog shows the way for all the photos on disk F. There are no pictures on the F drive.  I can open pictures, but can not add new ones.  New digitized photos go to C and elements automatically 'find' but the new photos screen is just a '? ' and the items cannot bring in the catalog. I have about 10,000 images. Any help wood enjoyed. Thank you

This is how works the Organizer. The drive is not recognized only by the letter but also by the serial number of the drive. (The reason for this is that removable drives can change letter when it is plugged according to other devices already connected). That's why one of the tips more repeated during the replacement disks or computers is to use the backup/restore method.

Using Backup, Restore to move the catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later version

What can you do now? I guess you don't have the necessary full backup for this process.

    You can 'log' files:

    Photoshop elements (PSE) knowledge base.

It is not easy and a lot of time, generally.

Or you can copy your folder tree of photo to their original position on the F drive (except those newly imported). Who should reconnect everything.

Once reconnected, remove all the image on C files.

You can use the backup and restore method to recreate everything in your C: drive.

Or simply use the Organizer to bring back these files from F to C.

In the left panel of folders, you can drag and drop your folder from F to C tree (be patient for this copy). The files in the Organizer will not be cut.

  • Move the catalog in photoshop elements 10 should move everything, including your photos?

I would like to move all my photos in my laptop catalog out of my PC on a hard drive. Move catalog it.  I can't find anything about it.  It also moves the catalog of her self.  Want to make a back up but do not.

    velera wrote:

While exactly made the choice to "move the catalog?

What I explained: the catalogue (which is a folder) is moved to the desired location. Move catalog does not change its content, including the location of the image files referenced.

Move a catalog in the default location on an external USB drive to store all of your media files is a comon task. In this way, you can share your catalog and library between multiple computers with the same version of elements. Replacing the external drive to the internal one after a full backup and a restore disk external hard is also useful to make your catalogs (if you have several of them) are displayed in the same place in the Catalog Manager, having rather navigate to the location of "custom".

  • Move the catalog

I searched the forum and could not find a previous debate.

Want to know how to move and rename a LR catalog.  I need to do everything with pictures of this catalogue remain in their existing records - about 10 files 17 000 + photos.   The catalog is on drive C and the photos are on an external drive.

I am a newbie and after I finally understood how import - using multiple catalogs - I noticed that one end which I want to use is in a nest of files I need to delete.

    Jeri

I would like to move the catalog with OS file, rename & close LR. Then when you restart LR, it will tell you that it cannot find the catalog. Point to your renamed, and everything should be OK. After the fact, it may be more prudent copy the catalog to the new location, rename it, and then open LR. Now open the new catalog, catalog file/open. If all goes well, remove your old.

  • Put catalog previews on another drive?

    Hey all,.

Is it possible to put the LR3 catalog on a different drive for previews?

I realize this is not possible through the user interface, but there may be a registry hack?

I have the catalogue on a SSD currently for his speed, but with a catalog of 45 000 growing image, there isn't really room for all the previews.

    TA,

    Mike.

    Hello

for Windows 7 and Vista, you can create a symbolic link with the command-line command MKLINK (no need to download any resource kit or third-party tool).

Move your folder of your SSD preview (say D :) on your hard drive (c :)) example

Open a command line as an administrator

    Type: mklink /j d:\lightroom_catalog_path\previews_folder c:\anywhere\previews_folder

    and voila!

    See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_symbolic_link

Maybe for performance, you can move the Camera Raw for the SSD cache too and increase its size.

    Didier.

Bonus... question is at - it a way to pass the changes with photos in a catalog existing on my desktop, when I get home (that would be optimal)?
