move a XP system to virtual XP

Recently, I replaced an XP system with a new system of Windows 7 Pro.  I would still access the old system so I thought I'd try to move an image from the old system to a virtual XP 'system' on the new system.  I found a way to clone the old hard disk to a virtual hard drive, but when the virtual XP system starts it crashes after loading the driver to display (in safe mode).  It does this, even though I select the VGA mode.

Now, I can't say that I am particularly surprised, I thought there will be a few problems of pilot/HAL.  But my question is: are there at - it a way to solve these problems and end up with a virtual clone of a XP system work?

In fact, VMWare has my next attempt - success!  Their converter is quite impressive - P-> V with virtually no effort :-)

(or similar) My question is how can I move the operating system Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 to a new hard drive.  Since the problem is the hard drive and all the computer a new operating system should not be purchased.  If there is no way to move it is it possible Microsoft send a replacement free of charge, or at least OS with only shipping.  My computer came with it pre-installed, and I have not received the drive with the OS on it.  What can I do?  Thank you for your information.

When you received your entry door, it came with a CD or operating system recovery disc. If you no longer have that (or has not made a recovery disc set a utility included), contact Gateway to buy a set of recovery disks. It is normally fairly cheap. Then install the new hard drive and booting with the recovery disk to restore your computer to the factory State. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Error message says that my system's virtual memory is too low.

Hello, I have increased the paging files such minimum and maximum values suggested by various sources of help and my computer seems to be running a little faster, but negligible so. I also understand that moreRAM will help, however, I have the maximum RAM my laptop can take internally (256 MB). Is there such a thing asexternal RAM I can get to increase my RAM? I work withWindows XP Home Edition and I understand that I need a minimum of 256 MBRAM for my virtual memory to be ok. Verification ofRAM to my system , I see that I have 256 MB of RAM (physical memory), however, only about 10 MB ofRAM (physical memory) is available for use (I got this information from thesystem information tool). I don't know what that means. Should I have 256 MB ofRAM available for use for my virtual memory to be ok? My hard drive is 20 GB but I have about 0,6 GB of free space, so I think I have anexternal hard drive in order to have more space. Can get an external hard drive to upgrade my RAM? Any help
    very much appreciated. Tony.

Hi, I sympathise with your situation, but my answer may not be what you want here, even though I think you'll find credible and useful information (I have a degree in computer service technology (end of the 1980s, but I do not work in this area).)

In the computing environment today with all web 2.0 and 3.0, sites which consist usually of a large number of graphics and flash type software, you must have much more memory...
For simplicity, there are memories of basically two types that apply to your situation, and it is the RAM (to run your software as applications etc., then the memory of your hard drive (to do most of the work...)
The computer, I am writing about this time is about five to seven years of age. He had 500MB of RAM when I bought it and 80 GB of hard drive memory. Then about two years ago I started to have virtual memory issues so I bought a stick of 1 GB of ram and installed what brought my RAM to 1.5 GB of ram and it took care of the issue of virtual memory. (I use a Dell Dimension 2400). I also bought a terabyte external drive to organize the future all downloads and transferred from the stuff that was on my computer on the external drive to free up some memory hard drive of my computer.
Here are some points to remember and a recommendation or two. If you can, buy you a bar of RAM and install it... (instructions should come with the RAM on how to install it and you can also search the creator of computer Web site for assistance). It's a fairly simple process which consist essentially of find a connector available on your motherboard near where your already installed ram is located and pop in the newly purchased RAM stick. You should be able to get at least another stick of ram of 256 MB and this should help.
You also have another problem, however, you indicate that you have seulement.6 GB memory hard drive of 20 GB. From my experience, when you use beyond the mark to halfway to the memory of your drive hard your computer can start to slow you down to the bottom of issues.
20 GB hard drive is not really much memory in standard today for the internet. If I was buying a computer today, I would get at least a terabyte of disk hard memory (and at the very least, the computer should have at least 500 GB memory hard drive). You could probably make it thereby half, but I mainly throw these numbers out there so you can get some perspective on how just 20 GB is not get it for the internet today, especially if you use your laptop or desktop (20 GB might be great for palm pilot but even these computer really little, I forgot the name off the coast of the hand have more than 20 GB...)
I hope that this information was of some use to you. You can find me doing my thinghttp://www.informationinternetmarketing.com/
    Good luck
    Floyd
P.S. I just noticed you said you within your capabilities of ram in your computer... If you can not increase ram, then you should try to increase virtual memory... It is recommended that you increase the virtual memory by 1.5 times greater than the normal setting. Below is a step by step method, retrieved from http://www.delete-computer-history.com/increase-virtual-memory.html

    How to increase virtual memory?

    In Windows XP

    1. on start and then click Control Panel.
    2. click on performance and Maintenanceand then click System.
    3. on the Advanced tab, under performance, click settings.
    4. under the Advanced tab, under virtual memory, click on change.
    5. under drive [Volume label], click the drive that contains the swap file that you want to change.

    6. under paging file size for selected drive, click custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you wish to book for virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size.
    7. click on set
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
Special note: You must choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will stop your CPU from the pagefile evolving.

How to move the system of origin, drivers and other software for the SSD newly installed without an optical drive?

The two utilities that I mentioned manage alignment automatically. Also, I photographed my hard drive, then restored the SSD. I have no clone, which means a direct copy of the HDD to the SSD.

I just went through this myself in July, using Acronis True Image 2012 to get my existing on my 256 GB SSD mSATA HARD disk image. It worked like a charm. I checked that the SSD has been properly aligned.

    =======================================
. MSWMM would be your Movie Maker project file if it is a
complex big project that you have been working on for a while it
can be to reach the limits of your system resources.

Creation of several small projects is better than a large
project. If you save all of them in the movie .wmv format you
can import movie collected files and combine them into
    one final film.

Also... it may be interesting to try to install IE8... I remember
See the reports of users of Movie Maker who has
with IE7. Personally, I went straight from IE6 to IE8.
(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

  • Move the computer system to a new disk

I have a 6 year system, I built and it's time to upgrade.  New system uses MB P9X79Pro Asus with Intel I7 3930.  I want to take the drive system (SDS) from my old computer and install it in the new computer, and then upgrade to Windows 8 Pro on the new computer.  The SDS Vista OEM of Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade.  Can I unplug the old system and plug the other, or are there other necessary steps?

The Windows 7 Home Premium is a full version license?

If its a Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade version, move the drive to the new computer will invalidate qualifying OEM Windows Vista Home Premium, which in turn invalidates the license upgrade and it disqualifies by Windows 8 Pro upgrade.

You need a Windows 8 Pro full version license.

There is no full retail version of Windows 8. If you need a full version, you will need to purchase the Pro OEM Windows 8 of new eggs. To do this, install an own custom.

  • Move the server vCenter as virtual machine

    Hello

I was asked to spend 5.1 vCenter virtual from one cluster to another. I guess that would not big problem, but there is a situation.

vCenter server 5.1 is sitting on one of the hosts in Group A here is the IBM hosts with AMD processors. I have to move to group B which has HP hosts and Intel processor. This means that I have to close vCenter server to move, but at this stage I am lose the connection to the vCenter server.

How to move this server to another cluster. vSphere client is out of the question, but also web interface. I guess that some sort of command line should work, but I don't know how

    All ideas

    Thank you very much

In this situation, there are several options.   All of them require vcenter would fall at some point.

1 use of vsphere replication to replicate the vm and then stop and start

    2. use converted for vcenter convert and more (you need to turn off the virtual machine to get a clean snap)

3 use SCP from one host to another

4 vmotion the VMS to shared storage that can see the two hosts, turn it off remove inventory in one add B and power on

I don't know there are methods more I do 4 If you can.

Windows Server 2003 has automount disabled volume.

To check the exec diskpart.exe on the server.

It takes a few seconds to load until you get a command prompt.

Then type "automount" to get the current state.

If it has disabled you can enable it by typing "automount enable.

  • Noob question: how to move a file to a virtual machine to BACK?

I have an old piece of software that I still need to run under DOS. (Believe it or not).  I managed to create a virtual machine with 6.22 running BACK.  AND, a few months ago, I managed to move files on the disk "C:".  But, it seems to me have forgotten one, and for the life of me I don't remember how I moved the files.

So, I have a file on the host computer that I need to pass to the guest computer.  I traced the virtual disk to a drive letter on the host computer, but whenever I try to move my file, I get an error.

What is the right way to do this?

    Thanks in advance!

Another easy way is to write the missing files in an iso and iso power of the virtual machine

probably even easier, then using flps - like everyine is an application that can write CDs so creating isos is trivial
