Movie Maker 6.0 codecs
I made movies using Windows XP Movie Maker. Now, I want to open them in Vista Movie Maker 6.0, but get an error message saying: there is no codec to do.
How can I solve this problem?
Thank you.
Jaturi,
These are the source files that I was referring to, however the .mswmm XP file is not an accountant with the Movie Maker Vista. If you were to move to another XP machine, you will need to have the same directory structure in place for the source files in order to make it work.
Kind regards

MS Movie Maker exports the Codec error on me and now does not work!
My Vista's Home Premium Service Pack 1
I was downloading MP4 fortunately making movies with MS Movie Maker then pvooop! MSMM no longer works.
I just downloaded the WMM 2.6 and that crashes now in the same way. WHY?
When I try an import with the ASUS media and go to the folder that contains these files .mswmm files are not yet recognised by the Vista Movie Maker as being multimedia files, to see I choose all files. When I try to open them up to this moment there, I get the following error message:
The file C:\Users\Don and Kim\Videos\Africa video Project\Drafts\Welcome Home\Clip 01_1\WH than Clip1.MSWMM cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to re-import the file.
I tried to find the codecs but was put off by the fact that they were not genuine Microsoft and do not want to download something that will just make things worse. Why should I have to download the risky codecs when I'm a real MS client? This happens to many people. Is there a bug in time in this SW?

Hello
You try to read the MSWMM file?
A .mswmm file is not a movie... it's a project file. If you double click the .mswmm file it can open Movie Maker, but unless you have imported all the sources files it will not be usable.
I recommend you go through the link below which includes a complete description on how to put a DVD into Windows movie maker project.

Windows movie maker and xvid codec!
Hello
I'm new to WMM, but no more contact. I use WMM and after that I get the project done, I publish it and lower half is green and the top half is shrivelled. I would be YouTube and google it and they said to uncheck the Xvid. Then I go to tools, options, compatibility, then I try to uncheck and I do not have a XVID but I don't have a Divx, so I uncheck that but everything is done my files imported in the section overview of WMM go to a black screen with audio.
I have another suggestion to go to start - all programs - xvid - (at this point, I downloaded it) but I can't open the program and they wanted me to go deconded converter (or something of the sort). I'm trying this and divx, but they are not the same at the user level. I have a product called 3ivx, but once again it is not the same on a user level!
Suggestions, I just want to do the work!

· You have installed any third-party codec or from Microsoft?
· What codec you have installed?
You can uninstall the codec programs & features & reinstall it back & check if the problem persists.

How do you get the necessary codecs to AVI on Windows Movie Maker files to run?
I tried to open an AVI video file on Windows Movie Maker for the first time, and he said was: "the file cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to re-import the file. »
-What this means and how I can get the codec?
Help, please!
You must use an application like MediaInfo to identify the missing codec and then download the one you need. MediaInfo can analyze the video file and provide a link to download the appropriate codec. Here are some additional details on How to solve the problems of codec with MediaInfo.

I try to use movie maker, and he repeated to me that I need a codec to be able to open the file which actually happens to be an avi file. I tried to download the codec installation package and cannot do anything with the files. I also changed the options to automatically download codecs yet still cannot open the file.

Sims 2 was not properly installing its codec vp6vfw.dll film so I copy and pasted from Sims 1 CD in my windows > System 32. Now when I play the Sims 2 game I can make movies. They appear in Windows Media Player very well. But they do not visually show in Windows Movie Maker. I get sound. How can I fix Windows Movie Maker to display my Sims 2 movies?
I found the answer. Windows Movie Maker is no longer supported. The new version is Windows Live Movie Maker, and it has all the appropriate codecs. Download that and you're good!
WMM is trash but it can not be uninstalled from the PC. Just ignore it and use WLMM.
