Caddy drive to Y480 (20934EU)?

Hi all

I plan to install an SSD instead of the standard 750 GB hard drive that came with my Y480. I want to use it again and looked into getting a caddy to replace the optical drive. However, I can't find any solution that does not look like they are built at a lower cost or a shadow operation. Someone at - he found/bought/used here and has been a reliable experience with a hard drive caddy? Popular links. Thank you!

In fact, I'm now this NewmodeUS product: Y480 HARD Drive Caddy

Someone had agreements with this company?

  • HP 8560p laptop: hp 8560p's caddy drive upgrade hard hot swappable

Upgrade of removable hard drive Bay is hot swappable so that I can without damaging it remove the optical drive Bay and insert the caddy upgrade hard drive, while the unit is running, i.e. without turning it off.

It is theoretically but I hesitate. Why do you need to do this? I could check and see if the DVD drive appears in the removable hardware when you click on this icon in the lower right

If it shows up here so you can stop it and I would be sure that it is OK in this case.

  • Caddy drive HARD Lenovo B50-80 problem

I bought an SSD in order to exchange it and original drive HARD laptop but when I connect the box HARD drive, bios does not recognize the original HHD in the caddy. Does anyone know why it can summer happening?

There is a problem with the help of an SSD / HARD drive in some laptops optical Bay (no brand is safe) and it seems to point to the chipset expecting to see a STRANGE on this port and only an ODD.

When you install or use any other player, he is unable to access the way it waits and causes the machine to hold on to this moment here.

This is the best that I was able to get outside of the redesign of the interface to conform to a SATA plug-and-play and hot plug specification.

My advice to those who seek to replace the STRANGE with an SSD or a drive is to contact the manufacture, talk with their tech line and see if it has been done successfully with your model in the past and what it takes to get there.

    Good luck.

  • Caddy drive for Optiplex 7010?

  • Alienware M17x R4 s come with the caddy drive HARD high school-interposer?

Small question, I have a R4 M17x bought in June (UK)

It come with the disc caddy hard secondary + interposer from the factory? I'll soon put in a second drive and I have not had the chance to do burst the case to have a look and I would like to ask if anyone knew the hand of thought?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Thanks for your reply. I'm a bit confused as there seems to be little conflict concerning the additional caddy/interposer. Research on the official website of Alienware YouTube, there is a tear down video for replacing/adding hard drives:

    cs_setInnerHtml ('video_dc1e6edf - 2 has 67-4328-a6a6-f9e1a32bc90a', ");

Asked the same question and the official response was that, indeed, he comes with them.

If not, where can I get the second cart + interposer? Is there an additional cost?

When I have time I will confirm if my device came with additional parts, but until then, I wasn't sure.

  • HP dv4 1506tx: HDD Caddy to repalce my optical drive in hp dv4 1506tx

I'm looking for a caddy drive HARD replace my optical drive. But in the optical drive connector doest have a SATA connecot. Instead, he has something like this in the image. Is it possible to replace it with a HARD drive caddy so I can have a second hard drive. Help, please.

You cannot use the same caddy for a hard drive. The SATA connector to an optical drive is smaller than the SATA connector to a hard drive. As I said this piece of black connector on the back of your caddy has a plug on the back side that goes into the mini-SATA in the back of an optical drive. The other side has these weird things of connector. It comes off if you remove the screws holding it.

HARD drive adapter optical has a mini-SATA as a scanner to the outside, then a Bay inside that has a size hard disk adapter. Like this.

Just take that black thing on the back of your optical drive caddy and place it on the back of this linked above adapter or a similar one.

  • Portege R700 - how to replace the optical disk drive?

    Hello
I would like to replace the optical disc drive (ODD) with a Solid State Drive (SSD) on my Portege R700.
So my first question is: what is the way to remove the STRANGE?

And my second question is: can I replace it with a Caddy drive HARD ICY BOX IB-AC642 or Akasa AK-OS2SSA-BK?
Interface SATA caddy fits with the WEIRD interface?

    Thank you for your answer

    Hello

It s really complicated because the STRANGE is placed inside and remove it you must remove all the screws that fix the bottom cover.

I wouldn't, because you will lose the warranty.
More I doubt you could get the second HDD to work in ODD Bay.
I think that this is not supported
Just the laptop s as Portege M400, M700, M750, Tecra M9, S3 or S4 with a select Bay slim support would treat the 2nd HDD instead of ODD.

  • Dv5 does not load Vista, failing hard drive test

I have a laptop HP DV5 with Vista - 2 years and more under warranty.  He had some problems with Windows Update error codes, I did a system restore to a point a little backward.  This does not solve the problem, so I tried to cancel restoring the system back to the State of our days.  This was fine, but then the system locked up when he tried to restart itself-it has attempted to restart for 45 minutes and got nowhere, so I turned off.  This throw Windows completely, as the system restore was not full yet, so now that my computer will boot the HP logo and start up options, but then get hung up trying to load windows (I have a black screen with a scroll bar down cycles endlessly with Microsoft Corporation written below)

Bottom line - I can't get the computer to boot windows, and system recovery does not work.  Tried directly from the hard drive and vain and ordered HP-put one disk disks this morning, once removed from the HP screen, I get the bar "Windows loading files" at the bottom, which ends in about a minute, but then it just goes back to its normal load upward, with the scroll bar and Microsoft Corporation at the bottom of the screen.  So I can't open basically even the system restore window.

I just ran the self-test of the primary hard drive and had hard disk Test do not.  I'm not particularly computer saavy (I didn't know that to do this test in reading this forum), if anyone can tell me what I should do next?  I don't want to go somewhere and get screwed!

    Thank you!

    -Becky

    Hi Becky,

The result of the primary Hard Drive Self Test means your hard drive is defective and must be replaced.  It is the HARD drive in my dv5.

    http://www.Amazon.co.UK/320GB-Scorpio-WD3200BEVT-SATA-5400rpm/DP/B0013E0A0M

Hard drive replacement is not difficult (generally remove two screws from the cover of the HARD drive on the bottom of your laptop, remove a futher two screws holding the disc in place then pulling on one leg to lift the reader.  Then unscrew the metal casing around your old drive - often called the caddy drive - attaching to your new drive, insert the new drive, fix it with two screws and replace the cover.  Then simply insert your recovery DVDs to load Vista on your new drive.  Here is a Youtube video showing this.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes

  • HP Pavilion 15-p211ne: upgrade to ssd drive

    Hello

I recently bought a new HP Pavilion 15-p211ne and I want to replace the optical drive with ssd drive, I have the following questions:
1 should I put the SSD as a secondary drive and reinstall windows, or it must be primary?
    2. What is the right size: 9.5 mm Universal SATA 2nd disc HARD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for CD / DVD-ROM optical Bay or 12.7 mm
    3. is there an official Universal SATA drive 2nd HARD SSD Caddy drive for CD / DVD-ROM optical Bay of HP, and is it safe to install no hp caddy on my new laptop computer.

    Kind regards

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

It is a 9.5 mm optical drive. See page 63 for removal instructions. You can use any optical drive SATA 9.5 mm hard drive adapter tray. HP is no 'official' part, so you must use a version of alternative, and they are widely available. Try jacobsparts.com.

However, the SATA interface for the optical drive is slower and will not support booting from the hard disk into the adapter. So I advise you not to put a SSD in one of these adapters because it will not run at full speed.

The optimal configuration is an SSD as main boot drive and a mechanical drive in pure storage adapter.

Unfortunately, access to the hard drive inside the laptop is a little difficult and potentially void the warranty if you mess up anything in the process. The manual contains instructions to access the hard disk (p. 88), and these videos show the removal of the top cover (on a closely related model) which is the hardest part:

  • Additional HDD in the inspiron 17r model caddy issue 5737 dvd

I recently bought an inspiron 17 R (model 5737). And I replaced the hard drive with a solid state (240 GB) disc. Now, I want to replace the dvd with original 1 TB SATA drive in a caddy. the SSDS works well, but 1Toctet in the caddy drive does not display in windows (I am booting from ssd). The 1 TB in the caddy drive is shows in the BIOS, so that the material looks very good.

can someone tell me how to get this working? The bios is up to date and when I put the 1 TB drive into the main slot that it works very well.

    Thank you

    Erwin

In fact, I found a solution to this problem. I'm not exactly sure why this is happening, but here's how this idea came to mind.

It obviously has something to do with the material does not meet 1 TB disks.

I tried with a hard disk of 500 GB to my ps3. He shows up, and after formatting, he disappeared once I tried to write or copy some files on it.

However, once I tried to plug in my laptop, it was there once again! It probably has something to do with the way in which an optical drive is supposed to work. As it stands, I could not copy all the files on it and I disappeared again.

    So here's my solution:

I reconnected my laptop, formatted the drive, this time, but I left 40 GB non-allocated.

And that solved the problem! It works independently of whether the laptop is plugged in or not. I tried to launch programs to it and it also copies files to a normal speed for the HARD drive.

I hope this helps guys! :)

Should I not answer this then this solution is final for me :)
