• Moving files not in the catalog

  I want to move my images and LR catalog on an external drive.  I have a question before I try it though.

  I have LR, a folder structure such that it resembles the following:

  My pictures-> our Stuff-> family-> family-originals

  My pictures-> our Stuff-> friends-> friends-originals

  My pictures-> our Stuff-> travel-> Portugal-> Portugal-originals
  

  etc.
  

  And I have imported only the image files of the "family-Originals'"Friends-originals"and"Portugal-originals"(Jose where to store RAW files) in my LR catalog and I store images processed records parent 'Family', 'Friends' and 'Portugal' (which is a structure of remnant of my time pre - LR).

  So, since I drag to a different drive, Our Stuff will be in LR, all folders and files are transferred, in addition to the files in the catalog, such as the files in the cases parents, family, friends, travel, and Portugal, which are the result of LR treatment but are not in the catalogue?

  When I need to move a large number of files I do in the operating system, and then in LR I re - associate (NOT re-import) images. It's easy when your images are under a folder parent as yours seem to be (Our Stuff or my pictures). It also has the advantage of moving all files in the same folders that are not in the catalog. Here are the steps.

  1. go to the settings of your catalog and choose to save the next time you quit LR and then quit LR to create a recent backup of your catalog. Also make sure you have a good backup (or two) of the image files. Remember that the catalog does NOT contain your images and a backup of the catalog is NOT a backup of your image files.

  2. with LR does not, copy the folder (Our Stuff or MyPictures in your example) relative to its new location. Now, you will have files in the same folder structure (this is important) in both places.

  3. now start LR. If the parent folder does not click with the right button on any folder and choose "show parent folder." Once the parent folder's display, right-click on it and choose "Update folder location" and choose the new location of the parent folder. This should re - associate this folder and the contents of all subfolders. You should see the question mark disappears.

  4 rename the folder parent of origin in the operating system. This will break any remaining link LR can contain. If you have properly re-associate your files then no.? icons should appear on your records.

  Once you are sure that all your images are properly associated to the new location, you can delete the folder parent of origin.

  If something does go wrong, you can always return to your backup catalog.

  I unfortunally managed to lose metadata such as development for some Cat LR3 folders settings and want to get that back.

  I have a catalog (call this cat LR3 Beta) who has photos files with the history of the adjustment.

  What is the best way to get the files/pictures cat LR3 Beta with my history of setting back to my new master LR3 of cat?

  The best way to go is "catalog import. While you have your 'cat LR3' open, chose "Catalog import" in the file menu. Then, choose your 'cat LR3 Beta.lrcat"as the source of the import.

  The following overview shows you which photos have different parameters of development/metadata in 'Cat LR3 Beta' and you can deselect the ones you don't want to import again.

  Under the heading "Changed existing Photos", I would choose "replace: metadata and develop settings only ' and perhaps 'preserve old settings as a virtual copy.

  This will bring your Cat LR3 updated with LR3 Beta chat.

  I followed the instructions to move my Documents to another hard drive. The source was an internal SSD flash drive, the other disc was a typical internal hard drive. I use Windows 7 Professional.

  I do not give the new location a file but simply transferred on the disc, which had other files it contains.

  After moving Outlook stopped working because he could not find the necessary files.

  Open your Windows Explorer folder and go in your pictures folder.  Drag it to the side of the screen until it snaps.

  The object is not really my question. I have a catalog on my computer that reflects more 150 000 images on an external server. I have a catalog on another computer that accesses the same exact folder of 150 000 images (it's in a large University). When I import new images in the catalog of a computer I import the accurate record of new images in the catalog of the other computer. If I make step changes to images on a computer catalog sync the folder of metadata on the other changes.

  Here's my question: If a new catalog is created on a third computer and this catalogue any images of this same external hard drive all keywords and other changes will be reflected in this new third catalog? The metadata changes occur with the picture or with each catalog?

  Yes. Of course, keep backups. And I suppose you know the catalog has an extension of lrcat and there is a file previews (lrdata) LR which is less critical - it rebuilt as needed.

  Another alternative is to keep the catalogue on an external hard drive and connect it to any computer you use. It's on a fast connection to the computer, check and even once it is saved.

  Dear God help me!  I'm on the phone with Adobe 800 number for assistance and the guys don't get this.  It is NOT SO difficult!

  I have the opportunity to work for someone who has FrameMaker version 7.  I have the opportunity to buy FM version 8.  IF I do this and create products for him.  He will have problems reading or modifying the files?   It's going to be whatever it is lost in the transfer?  Simple questions for me.  Maybe I'm crazy asking to our!

  You can always transfer Frame 8 7 chassis using Save as MIF files. This works for older versions. However, if you use the newere functionality it obviously won't work that well. The biggest problem you have is in unicode format. To be honest, the only seamless workflow will be for you two to use the same version.

• IX4 - 300 d / General SIN: How can I move large files between different folders?

  My new IX4 - 300 d arrived yesterday

  After doing his RAID-things all night, now I want to move my files from my old NAS to this one.

  I do this using Copy-supported by the ix4 - 300 d, which work fine.

  A big problem for me: I want to reorganize some large files / directories (> 200 GB), so I have to cut and paste the files from one folder to another (all on the ix4 - 300 d, but with different user groups).

  When I move files between subfolders in a folder of the sin, it works fast enough - I think here that the transfer will be treated directly by the nas server.

  When I do the same thing between subfolders in different folders (which appear as various network drives in windows Explorer), it seems that the transfer is managed by my pc or laptop - and it is very slow...

  I tried to move the files on my network environment (all folders are subfolders of a server: ix4 - 300 d) because I thought the problem was in my network mapping, but it does not work faster.

  How will I know my ix4 - 300 d to move the files directly (without the "help" from my pc)?

  Another idea for me was to do it via ftp, but my ix4 - 300 d only refused my connection (have to try a little more)

  Please help me

  I "solved" the problem by creating a copy of the temporary employment with the manual removal of duplicates once the task is completed. The copy job run all night.

  For future problems, I must think of an another "file management".

  If you want to copy (not move) a layer to another file, click and drag the layer in the layers Panel on the other image.

  'Move' means remove the layer from the source file.

  I know that I can import all the pictures, but there should be a way to keep all the records?  I shot a leading group and you want to import with the names of people and pictures into the same folders. Anyone know if this is even possible?

  Is it possible to move files in the Code of edge?  It seems to me that it would be a great feature to be able to drag and drop files between different folders.  What is a planned feature?

  Hi Dan,.

  It is currently not possible, but you can vote on this proposal for a feature here: drag and drop in file Navigator (in brackets is the project open source underlying edge Code built from).

  In the meantime, there's a shortcut you can right click on a file or folder in the Code of edge and select 'Show in Finder' (Mac) / see the 'Show in Explorer' (Windows) - then you can use the standard operating system folder to get things moving.  It's the less faster than having to go find the files yourself from scratch.

  I have a question regarding what would be the best option to accelerate the transfer of files between 2 servers to our VMware environment. We plan to spend our GroupWise email from netware to windows and upgrade to Groupwise (v7 to v8) at the same time. We will anticipate moving about ~ 125 gigabytes of data (files ~ 517 000) and expect that it will take several hours. We would like to minimize this time better we can so we wonder what would be the best configuration of things to get there? Two virtual machines on the same host? Two virtual machines on the data store even? On different hosts, or data warehouses? Our configurations are listed below:

  -In the course of running vSphere 4.1 ESXi

  -Data stored on 2 Dell Equalogic 5500 without

  -SAN one in each of the 2 sites, physically about 3 miles away

  -3 guests, 2 to a location and 1 in the other (same places the San)

  -Transfer of data from Netware 6.5 source, destination will be Windows 2008 R2 DataCenter

  -Links gigabit between all the elements of our VMware environment, including the link between the sites (on optical fiber).

  -3 guests are able to run all our virtual machines without overloading, so if we go to the virtual computer to another host, it is not a problem.

  We would like to know what is the best way to put everything in place for the transfer, so that we can prepare before hand. Any suggestions?

  Well, the fastest way would be to offload the clone/copy to the San operation. If your configuration supports VAAI then the clone would happen completely on the SAN by assuming that the source and destination storage device is the same SAN. Would it be different San then the network factors in anything. For what is running on the same host, which would be beneficial for cloning a virtual machine (mainly memory footprint) should not take place on the network.

  I read this useful article on the basics for moving files, etc. between folders in El Capitan: OS X El Capitan: basics of file.  This article is useful, but it is not my problem.

  I have a long list of Documents folders in the Finder.   So, every time I try to drag files from downloads of Documents, I would have a long distance to travel with my fingers until I come in my target folder, say, the Z folder at the bottom of the list of Documents.  But there is not enough space on my pad to keep dragging files with my finger all way to the Z folder.  So, I end up having to move the document to a folder to halfway (middle distance), and then drag again from there to the file target Z I want.  For this reason, I need cut & paste to move files between folders.

  You know a simpler way to move files between folders?
