Moving files/photos in one catalog to another

Location:

I created a new catalog (let's call it the LR3 cat) which is a catalog of my master.  There are now many files.

I unfortunally managed to lose metadata such as development for some Cat LR3 folders settings and want to get that back.

I have a catalog (call this cat LR3 Beta) who has photos files with the history of the adjustment.

Question:

What is the best way to get the files/pictures cat LR3 Beta with my history of setting back to my new master LR3 of cat?

yyy2moose,

The best way to go is "catalog import. While you have your 'cat LR3' open, chose "Catalog import" in the file menu. Then, choose your 'cat LR3 Beta.lrcat"as the source of the import.

The following overview shows you which photos have different parameters of development/metadata in 'Cat LR3 Beta' and you can deselect the ones you don't want to import again.

Under the heading "Changed existing Photos", I would choose "replace: metadata and develop settings only ' and perhaps 'preserve old settings as a virtual copy.

This will bring your Cat LR3 updated with LR3 Beta chat.

    Hello.

    I'm all wrong a lot of photos in a catalog of evil. I would like to move these photos for a catalogue of different - how should I do this?

    A tutorial on the topic:

    http://lightroomers.com/Tutorial-moving-folders-and-photos-in-Lightroom-2/100/

    Access all photographs and select the photos that you want to move

    drag it to the folder you want to move to / collection selected etc. Press on move.

    complete!

    PS:

    You can move photos in one catalog to another in Lightroom. Photos of movement can be particularly useful when managing photos of shootings. You import pictures into a catalog on your laptop to shoot and then put these photos in a master catalog on a desktop computer. To do this, export photos in the catalog of the stem (on the laptop) in a new catalog. Then import this new catalog in the master catalog (on the desktop). See catalogues combined or merged using Lightroom 3 and using the catalog in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Import command by David Marx.

    There is no direct way to do this in the Organizer.

    What you can do is to import the selected files in a different catalog.

    A method is to select the files in the first catalog and move them to a new folder, and then import them.

    To keep the labels, ratings, notes, legends has use the function "write metadata in the files" before importation in the catalogue of the second.

    You can delete selected files from the catalog first then if you want (NO disk...)

  • Spend a few photos in one catalog to another

    Hello

    I am a new user of Photoshop Elements 9 and I face a small problem. I created two catalogues to sort my photos. One of my photographs and another for Web design stuff. But I have a few photos on Web design in my catalogue "photography." How can I move them quickly to the catalog on the other? I tried to do by doing a copy and paste, but it doesn't work. I can do this movement without deleting them from my catalog of photography and re-import them in my other catalog?

    Thank you very much for answering.

    One way:

    1 - Create a new empty folder where you want the images to be

    2. Select the images to move and 'write the key word in files'

    3 - Use the Organizer to move the files to the empty folder

    4 - get photos from files and folders in the new catalogue

    Edit: In this way, the files are not removed from the first catalogue. If you wish, use the first catalog, select the files and delete them from the catalogue without remove them drive...

    I have LR 4.4 and my primary LR catalog is on my desk at home.  All my photos are in this catalog.  What I like to do when traveling is to import photos from my camera in a LR catalog on my laptop.  The catalog and images are stored on an external USB drive of passport.  Everything on the road, I sometimes work on the new images - post processing, spotting, assessing, etc..  On their return, I would like to import the images from the passport reader in the primary catalog on my desktop - including the changes that I made the images on laptop.  With the help of 4.4 LR, I don't see an easy way to do it.  Am I missing something?  More recent versions allow this kind of thing?  Any help would be appreciated.  John

    You must look in file > import from another catalog. She puts your work in a catalogue that you use.

    There is a file > export as order catalog which creates a small catalog of photos of the week (for example) or a project. You can then take it with you.

    Another thing to look into newer versions of Lr is perceived intelligent. So I can generate smart glimpses of 7000 photos, copy my catalog with them on a portable drive, have a lot of editing ability before a trip and then copy the catalog on my main computer at the end.

  • Whenever I have move photos from one folder to another file, the picture is no longer accessible.

    I use Windows XP - perfectly up-to-date.  Whenever I have move photos from one folder to another file, the picture is no longer available and cannot be removed with using unlocker.  This has happened for several years.  I copy pictures and new folders whenever I want to move them, but sometimes I forget and move them and then I lose the picture I'm trying.  I also noticed that there is a strange file that opens in the trash that won't let me remove it without using unlocker. These files start with "Dd" followed be a number.  When I delete these use unlocker, another will appear the a different number on this subject.  It is a very maddening problem.  It is not possible for me to do a system restore because it lasts for quite awhile.  Please help - I'm tired of losing pictures that I can't replace.  Thank you for your help.

    Hi JB_11321,

    Thanks for the reply.

    Have you tried methods 1 and 3 mentioned in my previous post?

  • How to transfer several photos from one folder to another

    I want to delete a number of photos in my folder and then transfer some blocks of them to other folders to better organize. I know how to remove one at a time, but I don't know how to highlight a bunch of them for moving.  They are coming up with numbers, like 079, 080, 081 etc but not on a list where I can highlight.  I also want to do the same with several short videos I have.  By the way, I have transferred all this media from my iphone / ipad and everything came automatically - that is why I need now to separate and organize especially if I want to send copies to parents and friends.

    You can select multiple by holding your CTRL key while left
    by clicking on the thumbs or file names.

    You can also select groups of photos by selecting one...
    While holding down your shift key and select another further
    fixing the list. All photos between the two selected will be
    chosen too.

    Move photos from one folder to another.

    With the thumbnail selected... type... CTRL + x. sa is the
    keyboard shortcut for "cut". Selected thumbnails are
    bland and appear grey.

    Open the folder that you want to move the photos to, and then type...
    CTRL + V. sa is the keyboard shortcut for paste.

    I have two catalogues, one for digital images and one for the scans of slides.

    I put a few scans in the digital catalogue by mistake.  What

    Catalog export looks well, right, can I have done

    He in the past like that...

    (Do not re-scan the slide.)  I don't have access to it at the moment).

    In fact, as by using the Export/Import feature, I recommend if there are a lot of pictures, you don't have to use first export catalogue. Just run the catalog import and choose exactly what you want to import the other.

    Export to the catalog is useful and necessary for other things, but not when moving from one catalog to another on the same hard drive.

    Migration is best to use when you set up your new Mac, the first time , you start it. After that, it can create a home folder, which must be paid.

    If you are talking just your photos you need not migration. You can just copy the library to the pictures folder in the folder of photos on the new Machine.

  • Moving files not in the catalog

    I want to move my images and LR catalog on an external drive.  I have a question before I try it though.

    I have LR, a folder structure such that it resembles the following:

    My pictures-> our Stuff-> family-> family-originals

    My pictures-> our Stuff-> friends-> friends-originals

    My pictures-> our Stuff-> travel-> Portugal-> Portugal-originals

    etc.

    And I have imported only the image files of the "family-Originals'"Friends-originals"and"Portugal-originals"(Jose where to store RAW files) in my LR catalog and I store images processed records parent 'Family', 'Friends' and 'Portugal' (which is a structure of remnant of my time pre - LR).

    So, since I drag to a different drive, Our Stuff will be in LR, all folders and files are transferred, in addition to the files in the catalog, such as the files in the cases parents, family, friends, travel, and Portugal, which are the result of LR treatment but are not in the catalogue?

    Thank you

    Steve

    When I need to move a large number of files I do in the operating system, and then in LR I re - associate (NOT re-import) images. It's easy when your images are under a folder parent as yours seem to be (Our Stuff or my pictures). It also has the advantage of moving all files in the same folders that are not in the catalog. Here are the steps.

    1. go to the settings of your catalog and choose to save the next time you quit LR and then quit LR to create a recent backup of your catalog. Also make sure you have a good backup (or two) of the image files. Remember that the catalog does NOT contain your images and a backup of the catalog is NOT a backup of your image files.

    2. with LR does not, copy the folder (Our Stuff or MyPictures in your example) relative to its new location. Now, you will have files in the same folder structure (this is important) in both places.

    3. now start LR. If the parent folder does not click with the right button on any folder and choose "show parent folder." Once the parent folder's display, right-click on it and choose "Update folder location" and choose the new location of the parent folder. This should re - associate this folder and the contents of all subfolders. You should see the question mark disappears.

    4 rename the folder parent of origin in the operating system. This will break any remaining link LR can contain. If you have properly re-associate your files then no.? icons should appear on your records.

    Once you are sure that all your images are properly associated to the new location, you can delete the folder parent of origin.

    If something does go wrong, you can always return to your backup catalog.

  • Moving grouped content from one page to another (javascript - InDesign)

    Can someone show a simple solution on how to move a group selected items include the text and graphics from one page to another page in the same document using javascript for scripting InDesign 5.5. Thank you!

    You cannot determine where the item is placed, it is an operation of both parties. If you want to save & restore the original location, try this:

    ypos = app.selection[0].geometricBounds[0];
    xpos = app.selection[0].geometricBounds[1];
    app.selection[0].move (app.activeDocument.pages[1]);
    app.selection[0].move ( [ xpos, ypos] );

    This fails on a spread when you try to move something to a page in the left hand to the right hand one or conversely, as by default, InDesign treats spreads as a single unit of basic, no pages - you move your article to the correct spread, but not on the right page, and it seems on the same half of the spread that he was from. If there is a problem, you can experiment with changing the options of rule (by spreading, by page, etc.) and see if it works for you.
