My computor would not start windows, so I got the opption to boot with the disc. But with the TI istalled a new windows 7 on my computor and all my files are gone. How can I get the file.

second copy of windows 7 has been installed. How can I retrieve my files from the old copy of windows 7

That depends on the options you chose when you made the installation.  If you chose to keep your old files, you can view the folder c:\windows.old .  If you opted to install on another partition, you can retrieve the files from the old partition.  Otherwise, you would have to have supported your computer before reinstalling.

When you got your system back as you, I invite you to buy an external hard drive, and a good backup 3rd party program. You can configure it to automatically do everything in time and frequency of your choice. External hard drives 1 TB are about $85 these days and a very good FREE backup program corresponds to the Easeus todo backup free of charge that you can download from

http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm . Who can make you save a lot of time and frustration, the next time something like this happens. Sooner or later, it happens to all computers for one reason or another.

Good luck.

  • My Dell Precision 370 computer not start Windows XP, due to A MISSING or CORRUPT FILE.

The file that is missing, is a Windows root folder called > System32\hal.dll

Since this computer Dell was bought for our children used to use, I don't have any Windows XP disk to install the missing file of root or reinstall Windows XP software.

So, how can I get this missing windows xp root file, in order to exploit the windows xp software?

I tried to re - start the dell computer, but nothing works!

If someone could help me, I would appreciate it a lot.

Is is extremely unlikely that the hal.dll file is really missing or damaged.

It is extremely likely that XP can't find it either because the file system is afflicted or XP is told to find the file in the right place.

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

We should first check the inetegiry of your file system and then see what then to do.

Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix the problems and then try to start your system - this may be all you need to do.  Or, you are welcome to just start trying things that might work.

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that may have come to a store to purchase the system.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

    Hello

This toolbar is common to Dell systems, called a Delldock, it is not part of Vista, but rather is installed by the manufacturer. Other manufacturers, such as HP, have similar tools. Consult with the support of the manufacturer just reinstall. Good luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Crazy" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Windows help - www.rickrogers.org

My collection of "All photos" fills upward with images that aren't mine... most of them look like Microsoft icons.  How can I get rid of them and prevent any more?

Right-click on one of the images icons Microsoft and select "Go to library folder." Check if you have imported inadvertently a system folder or documents. Check the folder in the library 'Files' pane and if it's a subfolder to navigate to the top-level folder. Make sure that it does not contain any image files you want inside LR by checking the names of all the subfolders. If in doubt always select menu library > "Show pictures in subfolders", then in grid mode through the images. Once confirmed you can 'remove' unwanted images from LR by doing a right click on the top-level folder and selecting 'delete '. The files will be deleted from LR, but not your hard drive.

  • Envy 15-j059nr: Envy 15-j059nr would not start Windows after update to win10 now the hard drive is missing

This system worked before Windows 8.1 it has been upgraded to Windows 10 last year. It's my boyfriends computer and last night it kept getting blue screen dreaded with errors on his hard drive. He kept ignoring. Then, his computer's battery died and when he started upward, he could get a blue screen and act as if it would repair itself and would just start all over again. He was going in a loop. He did not know what he was doing, but searched on the Internet and ended up messing around any more.

Its installation was 850 GB HD 3 partitions, it was set up as a Raid was one the main C drive, one was the restore disc and the other hides. He changed the disk. He changed a few things in bios too, but I don't know exactly what.

The problelm I have right now, is that when that I boot without the USB bootable media, I created, I'm stuck at a screen that says there is no startup disk and no installed operating system and press F2 to run Diagnostics. When I run the diagnostics, just fine, no errors.

When I try to recover, repair, reimage or anything other that to reinstall, it goes back to the screen I mentioned above which does not allow me to do anything about this either, with the exception of past at the command prompt, which is X and not C. I did a dir/w and only seen the windows files are here , but under the users directory, documents and images are empty, so don't know if it's even watch what I think it is.

When I want to install Windows 10, everything goes smooth and then bam, he wants that pilots. I can't find the drivers for this laptop who don't have the .exe and require installation. This notebook is not a CD/DVD player on it. I don't mind doing a reformat and start all over, if I could recover his pictures on his hard drive. They are his grandfather.

    Help, please!

    Thank you in advance!

    AggieFan378

    You are the very welcome.

Unfortunately, I woudn't be able to help you with that.

I'm afraid that the PC is now a useless paperweight because of the BIOS update has failed.  There is usually no recourse other than to replace the motherboard.

If all goes well, you were able to recover the files before that happened, and if not, get a SATA cable adapter USB and read the hard drive on another PC.

  • I have some encrypted files accidentally and cannot access it now. How can I get back them?

I've been messing around with the parameters of property on some files and I found the encryption option and clicked on it.  I couldn't say it makes all the difference (ignorance), so I did not bother to deselect it.  It was a few months ago.  My computer recently crashed and I wiped it and reinstalled the operating system.  I keep all my files on an external hard drive, so I didn't save anything.  I went to access these old files after the computer is running again and realized that I can not open them now.  What should I do to decrypt?  Thank you!

    -Tyler

Since you don't back up your encryption keys, the data is inaccessible forever. Delete and move. There is no backdoor to EFS encryption. Next time be more careful about the use of the advanced features such as encryption without having to learn first about them. I'm sorry for your loss. • Windows meeting space has literally taken over my computer and my life took an life * how can I get rid of them without giving them what they want

Meeting space Windows took over my computer, wanting me for some experience of laboratory on Vista computers. They change all my files write of false event logs to send to Microsoft to take me off of the internet, mess with my screen and what they want because I will not help them.  I read on the Microsoft Forum here that many people complained of Windows support for their computers.  It sounds ridiculous, but it's true.  It is very difficult to enjoy your computer when this happens.  In the Microsoft privacy policy, they tell you how to cancel registered iv6 that has to do with the meeting space.  They just hung.  They took off my Norton Security 4 times the other night because I wouldn't get them administrator.  Who's going to do this right? I don't know who is behind all this.  I tried to do a re-installation of operating and they controlled that.  I guess I'm stuck with them for life.  People of virus cannot remove them because they are Windows!  Attention to your users of Vista, they want a private network and they slide people across the firewall.  I have proof of all this and friends who have been witnesses and we try to understand the best way to move on this.  I just wanted everyone to know.  Signed Just wants to be left alone-Christie Thorington ZD

If you work on projects in collaboration with other Vista users, meeting place is a program very handy to have around. It allows you to share files on a network to change them with a remote colleague. A lot of people were disappointed with Microsoft dropped Windows 7 meeting rooms.

But, if you do not work on projects in collaboration with other Vista users, meeting space is just a waste of resources. To turn it off, simply uncheck the Windows meeting space in the Windows features dialog box.
