My folder of outlook express has 2.4 GB of info, what files can I delete?

I transfer my Outlook Express to Windows live and wanted to know if I needed all the files in there, like Deleted Items.bak, Spam.dbx and others.

I delete anything until you get things moved.  Messages can import dbx files and you might need the bak files.  Wait until it is finished and is saved and then you can get rid of things.

I use outlook 2007. I have a subfolder in my Inbox. It shows that I have mail in the folder, but I can't. He has worked in the past very well, and then all of a sudden I can't see mail read or unread folder. I see that mail is unread in the folder and I can look in that folder and find results but I can't see what is in this folder. Other subfolders work very well.

I fixed the problem for the co-worker. I checked to see if there is a filter applied and it didn't say in the banner, but he had a applied. You know not why the banner in the right pane showed no filter has been applied, but in any case, I removed the filter. To remove the filter highlight the subfolder. I then went in the view menu, click current view. Click Customize current view. Click Filter and then press all clear and mail again became visible

  • lost/deleted a folder in outlook express

I lost/deleted a folder in outlook express and do not know how to get it back, I have a lequipetv.fr email accounrt if it's important. I have windows vista ultimate 2007 service pack 2

Look in the list of folders and make sure that the folder is not listed under the deleted items folder (you can move it if it is).  If you simply delete a file, this is what usually happens.

If it is not listed under the deleted items folder, you can also check the message store (Tools |) Options | Maintenance | Folder for the storage location) to see if the file is still there as a dbx file (hidden).  Also check him Recycle Bin and the message save a file bak with the name of the folder since it is a backup which you can restore (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2).

Finally, if it is really gone and there is no dbx or bak file, then my DBXpress program (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) has an excerpt from disc feature that will scan the hard drive for messages and if they are still on the disk, it will recover them.

  • My older version of outlook express has several problems, will be these imported into a new account in thunderbird

My older version of Outlook Express has acquired several problems. It is time for a change, these errors will be imported into a new account in Thunderbird. I hope that everything is based on the conviction that the two programs are completely different.

You don't say what problems you have with OE, then how everyone has to guess?

There is no such thing as a "Thunderbird account. You do not have an account with your email provider. To access this account, you can use OE, or Thunderbird.
But Thunderbird isn't your e-mail provider.

I just discovered that my computer's clock had accidentally got into withdrawal per month. I have reset the clock and now sent emails go properly in the 'Sent items' folder Furthermore, all e-mails I thought were missing were in the "Sent items" folder as well - they were just with e-mails from last month. The 'Sent items' folder has not been corrupted. Operator error. Duh!

  • Why was the full Inbox folder when there is no message in the folder of outlook express?

Original title: failure of Outlook Express

I apologize if I am in the wrong category, but there isn't one for Outlook Express. I encountered a strange problem with OE. My client always uses OE for their emails and all of a sudden a person has lost the ability to receive emails. After some research, I found that their Inbox.dbx file exceeded the capacity of 2 GB. Juggling which corrects the problem.

But my question is why was the folder Inbox full, when there is no message in the folder? When I opened the OE to try to resolve the problem, the Inbox was empty! Second question is how can I keep this does not happen?

I do not use Outlook, but it has nothing to do with archiving. Only, you do not see messages once you remove them, but they are still on your drive hard until you compact.

  • My Outlook Express has all of a sudden suddenly stopped to save my sent items. I checked the settings, and it is set to save. What could be wrong?

This is a computer that I use for business - so it is essential that I have copies of the stuff I send.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

You have apparent dbx file corruption.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and then create new folders to send and sent items box after having moved the messages you want to save to a local folder that you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the files of user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX files for the items in the Outbox and sent and delete them.  New ones will be created automatically when you open OE.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. • Outlook Express has lost more than a year value of the mail - how can I get that back?

    OE 6.00.2900.5512 xpsp 0804.3 - 2008 Win XP - SP3 and all updates applied.

I do NOT have an identity that is separate in OE, but in local folders, I put about 5 different folders and mail, as well as rules of mail from for address X, goes into the X folder. mail coming to address go to folder Y etc..

One of my folders (let's call it the X folder) have mail in there go back until 2008. There is, to the closing of OE, three days I received the message that to save space, OE wanted compact stuff, so I let him do as usual.

Everything continued to work as usual, but yesterday, something has gone wrong. I turned on the computer at around 10:00, received and responded to approximately five emails in X folder (as well as e-mails to and from other addresses/folders) and everything was great.

However, a few hours later, I noticed the missing emails. The last email now in the folder X is dated from 16/11/2009 and they age, which dates back to 24/02/2008 - but all the mail in the folder X dated between 11/16/2009 and disappeared, something like 900, maybe even a thousand or several messages, gone.

That's happened and how do I get it all back?

    Thank you.

PS all other folders are normal and have letter of 2009 and 2010 in them.

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :

    About file Corruption:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/IE/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx

    Recovery methods:

If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
    http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx

    And see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

My outlook express no longer works and I get this error: the connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop-server', server: 'pop-server', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, secure (SSL): no, Socket error: 10061, error number: 0x800CCC0E. Can someone tell what to do?

Make sure that you can access your e-mail via webmail, if you have this option to ensure that it is not a problem on the server.  Then locate the antivirus interference and ensure that the analysis of the electronic mail is disabled (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3).  Try to remove your e-mail account and then close OE and then add it back again and then see if it works.
