  I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.

  c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:

After using Easy Transfer to my old XP machine (via a USB hard drive), all but 2 or 3 program icons have disappeared from my new office.   All the icons are hidden and won't run, windows media says it can't read the file. Programs are not open. Don't know what happened.
