My Mac blocks downloads of programs such as MS Office. Can I change a setting to allow this?
I use MS Office, which automatically sends weekly updates. However, whenever I try to download these my Mac seems to block it. This also happens with other programs. I think I have a setting that makes the security, but I'm not.
Any help would be very welcome.
Thank you
Ian.
You are probably referring to this: OS x: about the application firewall - Apple Support
There are also 3rd party software which can block connections, such as Little Snitch or Handsoff. You have something like that?

I use Windows 7 with firefox as my default browser. When I download a program using firefox, I wonder if I want to save the file, and then must go to the download folder to start the download. When I download using internet explorer, I gives me the ability to run the download at the time where it is downloaded instead of save the download. Is there a setting I can change to allow me to run downloads when using firefox instead of record?
Hi shortwedge3,
You can use the OpenDownload2 extension for the run option when downloading files with Firefox

I do not have the version downloaded on Windows 8.1. How can I change?
The version that has downloaded the 8.1 Windows has all the other features that previous versions do so it is difficult to manage your mail and read it. In addition, Firefox blocks to return to your email once you click on an attachment that was included in your email such as a newsletter or an update of a trusted site. It's hard enough using 8.1 for Windows and Firefox now makes them difficult?
Hi singinggranny, I have a better idea of what you mean. The tile "Mail" on the new desktop of Windows 8 is an application dedicated to your Inbox mailbox of Microsoft that doesn't use your web browser.
These 'modern' applications have a typical way to access their menus: If you have a touchscreen, you can place your finger just above the upper edge of the screen and slide down, down an inch or two or drag an inch or two from the bottom of the screen. If you do not have a touch screen, try your mouse at the bottom of the application to see if this lower bar pops up hovering.
(It's really strange, trying to adopt metaphors of touch screen with a mouse. Not sure about the choice of Microsoft are the most logical.)

Other browsers open a PDF on the web in the browser, what pleases me.
Firefox wants to download, I don't like.
The parameters do not seem to allow me this choice for the pdf. Other types of work files.Hello
Try renaming your mimetypes.rdf file in your profile folder - where the actions of the file are stored, so when it fails, Firefox will recreate this file. I hope that when this happens, it will be by default so that the files PDF opens in Firefox.
To access your account profile if Firefox is open:
- Go to the troubleshooting page, either:
- Enter Subject: support in your address bar and press on enter
- Go to help (or
>
) > Troubleshooting information
- In the page that opens, click the view file"" button.
- (Firefox) output
>
)
See article profiles - where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other data from the user for more information, such as where to search for the folder where Firefox is not open.
Rename the mimetypes.rdf in mimetypes.old file, and then restart Firefox. If it works, you can delete the mimetypes.old file. If it isn't and you wish to return your application settings, you can rename the file mimetypes.old to mimetypes.rdf (make sure that you quit Firefox before that).

Why is the blue downloads instead of green arrow? How can I change this back?
I am quite frustrated with FireFox now.
If I wanted to Internet Explorer, it's what I ran. I find myself be partial to the classic theme - the classic buttons and classic colors.
Having to constantly download addons and settings and constantly update them - just to face to undo changes made by your development team at the GUI is more painful.
Having said that, the download formerly arrow GREEN - documented as green on a lot of websites - changed abruptly of LIGHT BLUE.
Apparently, someone out there has decided that a BLUE arrow was superior to the GREEN ARROW and that FF will not work correctly unless they forced the BLUE arrow by default.
I have to disagree. My FF runs much worse with the BLUE arrow.
I want the GREEN ARROW back.
How can I get the back GREEN ARROW?
Update Firefox 29, the same user interface is used for all types of installations. Changes to the UI are for mobile devices, at the expense of desktop / laptop users. Stupid idea, but we're stuck with it until Firefox falls into the 'other' category graphics use or pie charts. Fundamentally unworthy to have its own category more.

I tried to reset my default download folder, but it just goes back in the download folder on my server to work that I won't be able to connect to the next month. When I try to select a different download folder, does not have the button "Browse". I also tried to select the option to ask me where to save every time, but nothing appears when I try to record something.
You can also double-click the preferences that I mentioned in connection: config and manually add a custom - path C:\ for example will be the root folder of your hard disk the new default download location.
and in case the settings are not saved after restarting firefox please see How to fix the preferences that will not save

I was watching Hulu site and accidentally hit the "block" tab located at the top right of the window open for Hulu. I am now unable to get access to the programming of Hulu. I'm assuming that ABP (whitelisted) blocks now all programming to Hulu. How can I correct this problem and put the Hulu programming on my computer. I use a MacBook Pro, 10.9.3.
You should find Hulu in Ad blocking rules or rules hidden element list.
Can you post a screenshot?

I tried to download itunes and I get a message that the security administrator will not allow this download... How to fix this?
Hello
1. this problem only occurs with the installation of iTunes?
2 did you change on your computer before this problem?
3. What is the exact error message?
You can follow the suggestions and then check.
Method 1
Disable user account control and check.
Enable or disable the User Account Control
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-user-account-control-on-or-off
Note: User Account Control (UAC) can help prevent your computer from unauthorized changes. UAC notifies you when changes will be made to your computer that require administrator-level permissions.
Method 2
Disabling temporary antivirus and check.
Disable the antivirus software
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
