My NTUSER.dat file is 7 860 Ko and I don't have enough space in my C drive, I can remove it?

I have windows XP.  My hard drive is partitioned into C & D drives.  Most of my programs is on drive C and have therefore, swallowed up all the space.  I moved more data on the D drive as possible.  I was wondering what I can remove the ntuser.dat file to free up space?

No, you do not want to delete the file.

See for a description that is easy to understand the file and its purpose - http://www.ehow.com/about_6697490_ntuser-dat-file_.html

I presume that you have run the Disk Cleanup tool... did you also remove all but the last system restore point (see related article)?

I'm really sorry. Given all that's left is 4 k, is there anything I can do to recreate the 37Mb of your site.

At the file never stored in a folder of synchronized cloud (i.e. Dropbox, Cloud Files, iDrive, OneDrive, GoogleDrive creative folder, etc.)? If so, these services provide generally access to all previous versions for a certain number of days, so you can recover the file in this way...

I had an old computer that is running windows xp, when I bought a new that there windows 7. the people of tech where I bought it moved my old hard drive of the computer in a backup folder. When I try to open it I get a message that it is an ntuser.dat file and that it does not open I got back two times where I bought and was hoping not to take back a third time. I was told all I have to do is click on it to open. No one knows about it.

The Ntuser.dat file is not a backup file to all, it is a security settings file / your login.  Looks like you need to ask the people who made the backup where exactly they put him.

-Did you do changes on the computer before this problem?

Step 1: I suggest to start the computer in safe mode and then try to transfer the file and check if it helps.
Start your computer in safe mode

    Hi brandong13,

Here are the steps that you can follow.

1 change the location of installation using Creative Cloud Desktop App, go to preference > creative cloud > Apps and change the installation location.

    2. delete the folder '%Temp%' and restart the process.

    Hello

Unfortunately, you will not be able to rename system files or folders without administrator privileges. To rename and solve the problem, try to connect as an administrator and try to rename the file system.

Also, try the following steps to take over the file and then try to rename the file system:

    1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the file or folder you want to take charge.
    2. Right-click on the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
    3. Click Advanced, and then click the owner tab.
    4. Click Edit, and then do one of the following:
      • To change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click other users and groups , in area enter the object name to select (examples), type the name of the user or group, and then click OK.
      • To change the owner to a user or group that appears in the area of change of ownership to , click the new owner.
    5. (Optional) To change the owner of all subcontainers and objects in the tree view, select the check box Replace owner of subcontainers and objects .

  • How can I do so when I remove spam it goes straight and I don't have to remove it again to delete the file?

Not seem like I used to be able to highlight of mail in my file "spam" and it would just go in the trash. Now, he moves the file to delete, so I have to delete twice. Stupid!

If you use Microsoft Outlook, which is part of the desktop, hold down the SHIFT key when you click on delete and he was aware of the record deleted. Another thing you can do is set your options to empty your deleted folder leaving (and also to encourage or not). If you specify what version of Outlook, I get more precise.

    I hope this helps.

  • Shrink a VM HD - is the destination data store need to have enough space for the source or destination VM?

    Hi all

I have an existing file with HD Server configures:

    HD1: 60 GB

    HD2: 20 GB

    HD3: 650 GB

    Total: 730 GB

I intend to shrink HD3 250 GB that will give me a new total of 330 GB.

My question is, when I rode the VMware Converter Standalone process and I get to the step where I select the 'destination '.  Obviously, I need to select a data store that can adapt to the virtual destination machine.

My concern is that it shows the size of the source disk (Go 730) (see image below), and for some reason any part of the conversion process the destination data store requires the storage of the size of 330 GB vm 730GB as opposed to the 'new '.

    source disk size.PNG

    Can anyone confirm?

    Thank you

There are no for the data store 730 GB free in order to submit the conversion. 330 GB free (size after reduction) would be sufficient.

If you also select a provisioning, you could even start the conversion with less free space on the data store, but it may fail at some point, if the actual data meet.

  • Can I turn off the popup of OE constantly asking me if I want to compact my files? It's extremely embarrassing, and I don't need disk space.

This compression can be changed on demand?

It is not really a matter of you who need disk space, OE has need of him. Your request is in bold below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
    http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

Compacting your folders periodically is a must to keep OE works fine and at some point, you may lose all your saved messages if you do not. When you delete or move messages, the space they used remains until you compact.

Never touch anything until the compression is finished.* *.

With SP2, Automatic compaction in the background has been removed because of problems he has caused. Now, you will get a prompt to compact after 100 closures of OE, you need to do, and do not touch anything until it's finished. If you compact manually, at your convenience, this function defines also the counter to zero. See this for more information:
    http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact

If you are fully patched, you will now see a copy of your dbx files copied to the Recycle Bin as BAK files. If something goes wrong when compacting, the messages can be easily restored from this backup. A compact manual resets also the counter in the back of the registry to zero now.

For more information, see the information framed in red here:
    www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2

To keep things running smooth and harden faster:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. It will eventually become corrupt and you may lose mail. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

    And backup often.
