  • Start Menu icon missing user!

When I have connected to my Windows XP Pro computer and went to my Start menu, my user icon is missing. Only my name is there. How to bring back my user icon? : O

You are right that there is no option that says "show the icon of the user".  If the "Start Menu" is already selected, then you have a different problem.

When you start Windows, you get the homescreen or you go straight to your desktop?  If you get the Welcome screen, does show an icon for your username like this: http://www.softdistrict.com/wp-content/uploads/windowsxpwelcomescreen.jpg

I suspect that you do not see the Welcome screen or if you do, there is no icon.  When one of these assumptions is correct, then

Start > Control Panel > user accounts
    Click your user account
    Click on change my picture
    Click on an image
    Click the button change image
    exit from the control panel

  • Some icons on the start menu are missing after a remote desktop session in Windows 7

I use Win7 Pro SP1 and whenever I come back to my office after finishing a session desktop connection to my computer remotely, I noticed several of the icons in the all programs from the Start Menu section changed to default page icons. If I try to open any programs that are pinned to the start itself, it will indicate that the program cannot be found. Notepad and Calculator in particular to keep more victims of this problem.

I also noticed that the audio controller is disabled until I restart.

I found a batch file that will rebuild the icon cache, but this very annoying to have to keep doing it because I have to remote into my computer almost every morning for the daily scrum meetings we hold in a conference room.

  • Windows 7 - Start Menu power supply lack of button 'stop', 'sleep '.

    Hi all

My power button on Start Menu is missing the 'Close' and 'Sleep' options.   Everything is displayed is 'Locked', 'Disconnect' and 'Switch user' (in gray).  I searched Internet solutions and tried * everything * recommended that in return, including:

-right click on the power button and by changing properties

-modification of the options in the application of power of Control Panel

-change the registry setting to Start Menu

-using the Group Editor to change the option to Start Menu power button

-checked all of my system files to be ok

I've been smart to do these things and always return the default settings later.

    Other observations:

-the power button on the main Windows login screen * fact * have these options

-When you use the Control Panel power approx., I even not give me the option to change the Start Menu power button

    I use Windows 7, 64 bit, professional on a Phenom II X 4 4 GB system.

Help!  I'm a poster for the first time and I'm completely stumped.

    Thank you

    Minnesota Bob

I solved the problem.  It turns out that there are two 2 group policy changes that had to be modernized.  Here's what to do (some steps copied from Microsoft article)

    Click Start, run.
Type gpedit.msc , and then click OK.
    Navigate to the following location:

Taskbar and User Configuration Administration\menu located

Double click on "Remove and prevent access to the close command.
    Select 'off '.

Double-click on "Start change power button Menu"

    Select "enabled."

    Choose "Shutdown".

If you don't want to go through these steps, create a new user account will work as well.  Of course, then transfer all your settings of the old user account.

My wordpad program is missing in my computer XP Start menu. WordPad files still exist. I have to open a wordpad file, and then press the 'new' button to get a clean writing wordpad. It's boring. How can I return wordpad for the menu programs start---> menu accessories?

I looked through the addition / removal of the Control Panel, but I can't find a restoration for the wordpad program.

Why not try to go in start-> search-> for files and folders, and then type "wordpad."

  • Most start menu missing icons, XP SP3

I have XP SP3, over time most of my icons in the start menu > programs menu disappeared, only recently added programs have them.

the icons are shortcuts to .exe files that initiate programs.

the .exe inside their parent programs located in the folder of disc called "program files".

to make a shortcut, just right click on the desktop, create new ones and then enter the location of the .exe file

regarding the missing shortcuts, it is unclear what could happen to them.   but you can hunt down them and try to backup.  simply, do a right click on the menu start and open or explore all users.

what you'll see in Solution Explorer are the folder parent for users, including the administrator.  you will also find subfolders for the desktop and startup programs.

then hunt around for your missing shortcuts or the shortcuts in the folder and then copy them from a user account to the other.

If, however, you still can't find your missing shortcuts.  then re-create the files in the appropriate user account and make new shortcuts to put in it.

I was not able to locate the Start Menu.  I can't use the Windows Logo to access the menu any longer.  I can't access 'find the lack of Menu start' under the control panel.  I click on the link and nothing happens.  Once I reduce something, I can is more to it.  I have to use 'Restore down', if I ever go back to something.  I can't access the Task Manager.  Once I do a "Ctrl-Alt-Del", I click Manager tasks and nothing happens.  I really miss my "Windows".  Does anyone have an answer?

    Hi Eric,.

If you have another user on this computer account? If so, a long time in this user account to see if the question follows. You can also open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt +DELETE, click on file and new task and type cmd in the Open field. Once opened the windows of command, at the prompt to start type SFC/scannow (there is a space between C and /.) This procedure replaces or repair most system files.
