  To begin troubleshooting, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that Device Manager is open, and that the device that has the problem is selected. You can perform certain resolutions recommended by the Device Manager.
     1. Right-click my computerand then click Properties.
     2. Select the hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
     3. Double-click the type of device that has the problem. For example, if you have problems with your modem, double-click Modems to see the devices in that category.

        A list of devices appears. If a device has problems, the unit has a red exclamation mark next to it. If a device is unknown (usually because of missing drivers), the device has a yellow question mark next to it.

     4. Right click on the device that has the problem, and then click Properties. This opens the device properties dialog box. You can see the error code in the State of the device of this dialog box.

• My messagestore Windows Mail file has been damaged.

  My file that I use to store emails from Windows Mail has been altered somehow. It is under \AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsMail\WindowsMail.MSmessagestore

  I can not get the Import Wizard to find and use the file above. I can locate if I go through my computer, but when I click on the file it just open Windows Mail.

  Is anyway to fix this corrupted file? Or even just to rename so I can get in to see saved emails?

  The WindowsMail.MSMessageStore file is only a database that contains information about the messages.  It contains no messages.  The messages are in directories named after the names of folders in WinMail and are stored individually as eml files.  So if you are looking for messages, search *.eml.  Seewww.oehelp.com/backup.aspx for background.

• 10.11.2 OS Mail index has been damaged

  After the upgrade to OS 10.11.2 yesterday, when I opened the Mail (I use two accounts for Gmail and iCloud) I got a warning that my index of mail had been damaged, I should leave Mail and reopen it, and that I will not lose my messages or the mailboxes. When I opened her Mail, a window titled 'Message Import' opened with a progress bar indicating to all first it would take 4 hours. Now 8 hours later, it's still in the import process. (When I access my accounts via a web browser, everything works correctly - the accounts themselves seem not damaged.)

  I've seen other reports of the present, but in these cases the repair took less than half an hour. But if you have a very large mailbox, indeed it hours before the process ends.

  Our laptop has recently screwed up by a 'technician' and I managed to get it working again, but it seems that some windows files have been damaged or corrupted.

  I did the sfc/scannow, and he has repaired some but said that some are not repairable and I tried workaround renaming on these files and it did not help.

  In the end, I think that the best option would be to use the 'fix' that I used with previous computers but this laptop had the OS pre-installed.

  I tried to use the option via F8 startup repair and, once again, it seems have suffocating somrthing but yet, there seems to be having trust damaged or missing.

  I looked on the web of th for repair dics and I'm not sure that those that you can download and burn it to a DVD/CD are what I need as they seem to refer to commissioning repair function rather than in "repair mode" full I thought I had used previously.

  Can someone give me advice on how to do it (without return the laptop to factory settings) to try to fix / replace these files corrupt / missing?

  Yes, I'm trying to see if someone has a 32 bit Vista DVD disc and I'll try to use it to get the repair feature, but like I said nobody has this disc I know.

  The file you are trying to open is (you can see from the name) a BMP, PDF files no file. Adobe Reader can only open PDF files, just so stop trying to open it with Adobe Reader. The app, users of Windows for BMP files is painting.
