name of group/prot-vmhost name / vlan id /Swicth

Get-vmhost xxx | Get-VirtualPortGroup more or less gives me what I need

But I'm looking for format like this

name of group/prot-vmhost name / vlan id /Swicth

I need this o/p to have include VMhost name 1st column & also run for all the vmhost in a cluster. Can someone do this

It is a way to do

Get-VMHost-xxx name | Get-VirtualPortGroup |

Select-Object - property @{N = "HostName"; E = {Get-VMhost-Id $_.} VMhostid | {{Select - ExpandProperty name}}.

@{N = "PortgroupName"; E={$_. Name}}, VLanId, VirtualSwitchName

  • Difference between groups of ports and VLANS

    Hi guys

    I read ESX Admin guide 2 times till now, but I still don't know what exactly is the difference between groups of ports and VLANS? I understand, but if someone asks me this question I will not be able to respond with confidence.

    Network also label: my understanding is that it's just label No technical significance in configuration?

    Thanks in advance

    One VLAN is one of the many settings that you can configure for a group of ports, you also have the tabs security, Traffic Shaping and consolidation of NETWORK cards.

    Port group name, you associate you a VM port group must be placed systematically on other hosts if you want to migrate or virtual failover from one host to another.

  • Add Virtual Machine Port Group vSwitch (network and Vlan ID tag) by Script

    Hello

    I want to add a port group of VM for about 200 guests vSwitch. This can be done manually, but if anyone can help me to do it with the help of Powercli. We have guests organized on the basis of clusters.

    Virtual machine port group.

    Tag network:-XYZ

    VLAN ID: XYZ

    Thank you

    Pranab

    You could do something like that

    $clusterName = "cluster"
    $pgName = "test2"
    $vlanId = "1111"
    $vSwName = "vSwitch1"

    Get-Cluster -Name $clusterName | Get-VMHost | Get-VirtualSwitch -Name $vSwName | New-VirtualPortGroup -Name $pgName -VLanId $vlanId

    It will add the portgroup to the vSwitch on all hosts in the cluster

  • Number of groups of ports and VLANs by vSwitch

    Hi all

    I'm looking for any insight or best practices in what concerns the number of VLANs that are ongoing to shared resources on a vSwitch.  Our ESX servers, there are 6 physical network adapters associated with (using the property intellectual hash).  These cards are the uplinks to the vSwitch which provides the virtual machine networks.   We use VLAN Tagging (VST) and created groups of ports for each Vlan ID.  Until now, we have about 7 groups of ports for 7 different VLAN.     I know the max is 512, but are there aspects to add several groups / VLAN port that I'm missing?  (We use vSphere 4.1)

    Thank you...

    Groups of ports by vCenter limit is 5000, but you do not sound as it reaches.

    Really, for the number, you have (7) you are a pretty small network as much as standard implementations are going, and you'll be fine.

    I don't think it is interesting to look at if you really expect to be using all six ports - it is rare for aggregation in order to get increases in actual performance beyond two, and often 'more' is not better.

    LACP changes things a bit, but it does not apply to many environments.

  • In ESX VMs can choose different network/name of the label (VLAN)

    Hi guys,.

    My test vCenter crashed and I can't get it back as there is no backup. I can only connect directly to the ESXi servers and use virtual machines from there. Now, I am facing a problem while deploying a new virtual machine and by changing its network. I have a vDistributed configured switch that has 2 groups of ports 10 VLANS and VLAN 30. When I create a new virtual machine, it only let me choose VLAN 30 and will not let me choose VLAN 10 while there are a few old VMs that are still configured for VLAN 10 and I can change their card NETWORK VLAN 30. Should what changes I make to configure the VLAN 10 on my new virtual machines?

    I have 2 ESXi servers and this is the case even on the ESXi servers.

    Please find the attachment.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Hello

    The type of binding of default ports is a static binding, which means that you can connect to a virtual machine for a link static port group only through vCenter Server.

    I guess, the port VLAN 10 group is created with a static linking.

    VMware KB: Choose a type of port binding in ESX/ESXi

    If you do not group ports with ephemeral connection, you cannot connect a new VM for VDS if your vCenter is out of service.

    With connection of ephemeral ports, you can assign a virtual machine to a group of ports on ESX/ESXi and vCenter, which gives you the flexibility to manage the connections to VM through the host when vCenter is out of service.

    In this case, you will need to temporarily create a new vSwitch directly on a host with VLAN 10 to connect the new virtual machine.

    More info about ephemeral port binding:

  • ACS 5.2 assign VLAN based on the ad group

    I am trying to configure ACS 5.2 to assign the VLAN to a dynamic user based on the group to which the user belongs. I went to:

    Users and identity stores-> external identity-> Active Directory-> tab directory stores groups

    and selected the name of the pub group. If I understand correctly, I should now see this group by virtue:

    Elements of strategy-> authorization and permissions->-> authorization profiles for access to the network-> common tasks-> VLAN ID/name

    However, it is not. Am I missing something?

    N °

    ' VLAN id/name "is, in the name clearly States, a vlan id or name. Not a "group name".

    You don't assign it a group name in the vlan.

    The name of the group must go to the condition 'if' in your authorization profile. If "usergroup AD = x" and then assign this vlan.

    Then the id/name vlan's you type manually what vlan refers to the users AD Group.

    If you create too many rules because you have a lot of ad groups, you can do is create an AD AD attribute to store the number of vlan name and ACS will simply return that.

  • Two groups of ports with same VLAN on the same Vswitch?

    I'm doing a consolidation.  We had two different people put up two closed different of Vsphere and different network labels were used.   Of course the network labels must exactly match vmotion without losing connectivity.    So I was hoping that I could just create groups in double port on my vswitch for VLAN do not match them.  I know I could just migrate them and move quickly from the network label, but some of them are essential and may not fall.

    For example, on a cluster, I might have a port for Vlan ID 88 group that says 'Web DMZ'.  But the other cluster has "WWW" VLan ID 88.    Can I just create a second group of ports on the first group which also used Vlan ID 88 with the name 'WWW' and I started?    Which will cause problems with switching (loops, etc.)?

    Hope it makes sense.  Guess the short answer is can I I have two groups of different ports on a vswitch using the same VLAN ID tag without causing problems?

    Creation of several groups of ports with the same VLAN ID should not cause any problem. This is only marking/close the traffic to and from the virtual machine, is nothing like that of loops,... to be afraid of.

  • creating groups of VLAN - traffic disruption

    I asked this question of TAC and got a vague response, so I was going to post here to see if someone had actually done this and what were their results.

    We have a fairly basic config of UCS currently, there is a port on each fabric channel and our uplinks can take care of all our VLAN so all VLAN can use all uplinks.

    We will soon add a new channel of port that will only serve the VLAN specific (trafifc for the external VCC of our Nexus 7 k). So we will now have a disjoint network layer 2, where VLAN 1xx require port-channel 1 and VLAN 4xx can only use the port-channel 2.

    I have read all Cisco docs and it seems rather simple to deal with groups VLAN so that we make sure VLANS only try to use correct rising/port-channel binding, however our concern is moving all our VLAN existing in a group VLAN and the final outcome of this. I ran this by TAC and they said that there could be a "brief traffic disruption" when we apply this config.

    It gives me some anxiety b/c we are talking about all our ESXi hosts and each VM on these hosts (500 +). However it may be brief, that could be a problem if all of a sudden everything is unable to speak.

    Someone had an existing config that they moved to a configuration group VLAN and what has been your experience? It disrupt all traffic?

    We have not added the new port-channel, so everything we do now is entering a group of our existing VLANs and by assigning them to the existing port-channel.

    Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated

    We did just that. We moved in four areas separated into four groups of clan. We have created our groups and then all the VLAN for this corresponding uplink at the same time. We didn't see any packet loss or impact to end users.

    We have a facility of similar size. About 20 blades, ESXi server and windows, behind the pair of FIs. About 400 machines behind that. The movement is quick and easy.

    Previously, we were using the uplink of LAN Manager. I found it a bit heavy. Clan group works much easier in my opinion.

    Plan a window of maintenance, to be careful, but my experience of 25 VLAN moving through four interfaces different disjoint layer 2, we have not had any problems.

  • vSphere 4: circuits Multi VLAN on a port (VGT) group.

    vSphere 4 allows a group of ports to be configured with multiple VLANs. Previously, a group of ports needed to be configured with 4095 who was an approach all or nothing. Under vSphere 4, I think that a port group can have multiple VLANs specified IE. 453,3454,112 etc.

    My question is; This is available on a vNetwork distributed switch or is available with a switch vNetwork Standard?

    It is only available with the distributed switch.

  • Can not do anything on the VLAN ping on 6248

    Hello

    I've spent a day and a half trying to solve this problem, but I'm not getting anywhere. Here is a breakdown of the test configuration database.

    Port 1: Connected to the existing network (if I can get to the host ESXi from my PC)
    : 3 my ESXi host is connected to this
    Virtual machines are tag VLAN through port ESXi group properties.
    All VLANS have 1 VM except VLAN 10, which has 2.
    All the VLANS are IP address ending with 24 par.1 the subnet mask.
    All virtual machines have the corresponding default gateway pointing to the IP of the VLAN (XXX1)
    I am able to get the IP address of the DHCP server to different VLANS.

    Things that work:
    From a virtual machine, I can ping to IP of any VLAN (so MV in VLAN 10 can ping IP of the VLAN 20)
    The console, I can ping IP of any VLAN

    Things that DON'T work:
    The console, I cannot ping any computer virtual IP.
    From a virtual machine, I can not ping any address (including the virtual machines in the same VLAN)

The config is pretty basic, and the only way I guess whether the switch is if there were problems with the overall performance of the network. • Error of groups based on MAC "it has no resources for this range.

    Hello

    I have a SG300-52. My goal is a facility, where a client can connect to all ports and is automatically placed in a vlan are dependent on its MAC address.

    For this I put up some VLAN.

    Ports created by virtual local network name

    30 30 article gi1-46, gi48, gi51 S

    All ports where customers can connect the VLAN configured as unmarked.

    I have about 40 MACs, I want to put in the VLANs dynamically. So I've set up a group of Mac mapping vlan:

    conf t

    Serial section gi1-46

    switchport mode general

    switchport map General Mac-group vlan 5 5

    switchport map General Mac-group vlan 10 10

    switchport map General Mac-group vlan 20 20

    switchport map General Mac-group vlan 30 30

    Now, I want to add addresses MAC Mac-groups:

    mac 0000.0000.2222 Mac host card - group 10

    But after a few Mac added, I get an error "there are no resources for that interval.

    Is there a limitation on the number of MAC addresses in a group of Mac?

    Please advice how to proceed or if there is another way to achieve the goal.

    Tobias

    Hello Tobias,.

    There is a limitation on the number of MAC addresses could be added to the mac group and applied to interfaces. Each entry/MAC interface contains a single configurable AAGR resource (max allowed is around 500 I think). So, if you have addresses MAC 10 applied through 48 ports, it's 480 entries AAGR. This assumes you have no any other rule (ACL, MAC ACL etc.) configured. If you have a large number of MAC addresses that need assignment of VLAN static, the best approach would be to use the dot1x base assignment authentication vlan. It would be an evolutionary approach.

    I hope this helps.

    It recognizes the attributes 64 and 65, but the Tunnel-private-group-id, which contains the actual number of VLAN is not supported. How can I assign the vlan OK if this attribute is not taken in charge? Does not work with a string corresponding to the name VLAN on the switch either.

    The version is 12.2.55SE10 3750G.

    Hello

    Since him debugs if I see that you are missing an attribute to make the assignment of VLANs, in your test it just to send the following items:

    * 1 mar 00:12:53: RADIUS: Tunnel-Type [64] 01: VLAN 6 [13]

    * 1 mar 00:12:53: RADIUS: Tunnel-Medium-Type [65] 6 01:ALL_802 [6]

    But it would be appropriate to send:

    • Tunnel-Type = 64 = VLAN

    • Tunnel-Medium-Type = 802

    • Tunnel-private-Group-ID = 253

    When the "Tunnel-private-Group-ID" is the number/name of vlan to be awarded, the bellows is an example on what it would look like on the profile of the ACS:

  • How to extract the VLAN ID of VDPortgroup on Cisco 1000v

    Hello!  I am trying to create a script that gets all the VDPortgroups and copy them to a Standard switch for migration purposes.  Our DVS is currently a Cisco 1000v.  I would like to be able to extract the VLAN ID of each VDPortgroup can I in turn put this VLAN ID on the Standard switch after its creation.  I was not able to find a VLAN ID property anywhere in the VDPortgroup object (I drilled down into ExtensionData, etc with no luck).

    As a solution, I have bet on the VLAN being on behalf of the VDPortgroup and using the regex to extract this numerical value out the name, store it in a variable and set the VLAN ID on the Group of ports in the Standard switch accordingly. However, I wish I didn't have to rely on the cosmetic name being 100% accurate and consistent with the current VLAN ID of all VDPortgroups we have there, which is a bit.

    Is there a VLAN ID hidden somewhere I'm not find in the VDPortgroup object?  Or is there a better way to do it?  Any ideas or suggestions would be very appreciated!

    Best,

    Alex

    I went through a migration of last year and found that the 1000v does not advertise this information to vCenter, unfortunately. Your best bet is to analyze the name, if available.

    I know that you are not on a VMware DVS, but if set you one up, you could see the port group has a configuration VLAN (somewhere in portgroup.config.vlan.vlanid or similar). Cisco leaves it on their distributed switch, for an unknown reason.

  • VMware switch Vlan configuration

    It is possible to switch the configuration that resembles a vmware

    interface GigabitEthernet0/4

    Description calculate node 1 eth1

    switchport trunk vlan 100 native

    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

    switchport trunk allowed vlan 100, 101 102

    switchport mode trunk

    spanning tree portfast trunk

    on the gigabitEthernet 0/4, I have a linux machine that needs these config.

    Thank you!

    Ah, very good. Sorry for my confusion!

    Yes, you can do it.

    interface GigabitEthernet0/4

    Understand and document how the switchport is connected to your ESXi host.  When you start, your ESXi host lists its physical network cards, called vmnic.  Enable CDP on your vSwitches (or LLDP if you use a vDS) so that you know how your ESXi host connects to the North.

    Description calculate node 1 eth1

    You cannot configure the descriptions on vSwitches Standard (you * can * configure them on a vDS). You can also, of course, port name groups however you like, with a few caveats.

    switchport trunk vlan 100 native

    The virtual switches VMware isn't exactly the notion of VLAN native.  If you want to leave the untagged packets ESXi host, you don't assign just one VLAN to that particular port group.

    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

    VMware only use 802. 1 q of marking.  There is no need to explicitly configure.  In addition, you can't.

    switchport trunk allowed vlan 100, 101 102

    Create a VLAN that you like on the ESXi hosts using the parameters of port group VLAN.  Don't forget not to set up a local VIRTUAL network for the port group that hosts the VLAN native.

    switchport mode trunk

    ESXi hosts accept several VLANs on a vmnic out of the box.  There is no need to configure.

    spanning tree portfast trunk

    This option isn't strictly for switching equipment, end-hosts as ESXi.  Your ports ESXi NIC will come as soon as possible.

  • vmreconfig.pl adding a network adapter with port group

    I have searched the net looking for a way to add a network adapter on a virtual machine and specify the port group / name of command line or with vi perl of the network and have found no examples (or change a network map of existing virtual machine port group). Adding an adapter with vmreconfig.pl is easy, but there is no place to set the port group (containing a special VLAN id for the new virtual machine that is just cloned). I am creating a fully automated system and this characteristic seems to be missing or I missed just plan. Can anyone help?

    Here is the code which is close to what we use:

    #$netname is a string of the name of the network, the host view is the moref of the host that you deploy on

    My $net_vm_dev_conf_spec = create_net_device (network-online $networkname name, hostview-online $host_view).

    1. create virtual device configuration for NIC specifications

    2. ================================================

    void create_net_device {}

    my % args = @_;

    My $network_name = $args {netname};

    My $host_view = $args;

    {if ($network_name)}

    My $network_list = Vim::get_views (mo_ref_array-online $host_view-> network);

    {foreach (@$network_list)}

    If ($network_name eq $_-> name) {}

    my $network = $_;

    My = $nic_backing_info

    VirtualEthernetCardNetworkBackingInfo-> new (deviceName => $network_name,)

    network-online $network);

    My = $vd_connect_info

    VirtualDeviceConnectInfo-> new (allowGuestControl,-online 1

    connected-online 1,

    startConnected-online 1);

    My $nic = VirtualE1000-> new (support => $nic_backing_info,)

    key-online 9999,

    unitNumber => UNDEF,

    addressType-online "product."

    connectable-online $vd_connect_info).

    My = $nic_vm_dev_conf_spec

    VirtualDeviceConfigSpec-> new (device-online $nic,

    operation => VirtualDeviceConfigSpecOperation-> new ('add'));

    Return $nic_vm_dev_conf_spec;

    }

    }

    }

    }

    #then create a config specification

    my new VirtualMachineConfigSpec =-> () $config_spec

    deviceChange =>,

    );

    #Then apply this config spec spec clone or something.
