  • Time Machine do not hourly backups on WD My Book for Mac new

My 1 TB time capsule was too small for the full backup so I just bought a 6 new to WD "My Book for Mac" and have now a new back up, but it won't backup time as usual. I am running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 Can anyone who thinks that the reason for what I fear not having a reliable backup. The problem with the new hard drive external or is - a problem with EL Capitan?

    Hello Arnaud,.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. It is my understanding that Time Machine was not back up as expected. I certainly understand how it is important to be able to back up your content. I'm happy to help you.

There are several factors that could influence the automatic backup. Please follow the steps in the link below to fix this problem:

If you cannot back up or restore your Mac with Time Machine

In addition to these measures, hourly backups could be affected by your sleep Macs and power Nap settings, depending on which Mac you use. To ensure that your hourly backups are finished, set your Mac sleep to a longer period time. For testing purposes, try to set the duration of sleep at least 1 hour. You can do this in system preferences > energy saver.

In addition, if you use a portable Mac, make sure that it is connected to power during the tests to see if hourly backups work. See the link below to view information on how Power Nap works and how it can affect Time Machine.

How Power Nap works on your Mac

Keep in mind, that Time Machine backs up only files that have changed since the last backup.

  • Time Machine "an error occurred during the creation of the backup folder"

    Hi all

In September 2015, I bought a 6 TB WD MyBook to use with Time Machine. Initially, I have me back an Early 2011 MacBook Pro 13 "and now it's an iMac late 2015 5 K. On both machines, the drive is connected directly to the USB port (without hubs was between the disc and the Mac). After about a week or two, I received a message "unable to full backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder".» I clicked on OK, rebooted the MacBook and she continued to save. This message pops up every week or two weeks, and I ignored him. When I got to the iMac, the message still popped up after a few weeks, and he even got to the point where it would show every day when I woke up to the iMac to sleep after a day at the College. Several clears and even erase the disc course made no difference. I made contact with WD and they sent me a new drive (a 8TB vs the original 6 to). Now, the message popped up again today.

When I was home from Uni, I was support my MacBook Pro 2015 retina on a FireWire drive, which I had used before purchasing the WD 6 to, using Apple's FireWire adapter Thunderbolt. It worked without any problem. In addition, back up my MacBook Pro via FireWire 2011 worked well for 4 years. Given that the MacBook Pro saved without fault when the drive is connected via FireWire, and problems have emerged only when I started to use a USB drive, I start to think that it is a problem of USB. I turned it off put hard drives to sleep when possibleand have active Power Nap and still get the error.

    Anyone else see this issue?

Thank you very much in advance!

  • Time Machine hooked up / slow down

I use a clean install of the OS X 10.11.2 leave a USB boot. Not an upgrade from an earlier version. I had used a NAS for the TM backup without incident so far. Since the machine is new, I started a complete backup of the TM. I noticed it seems to be suspended after about 430 GB. I deleted the sparsebundle to the NAS and started a new backup yesterday afternoon. My iMac is set to the computer keeping up when the screen is off. More internal SSD of the iMac, I have a USB 3.0 external hard drive connected with the added data, which I suppose is included in the TM backup. Preferences/Time Machine is showing "Backing up 431.55 1.51 to Go" and «Calculating time remaining...» "The entries of two console log I could find related to this are:

22/12/15 7:54:29.003'M com.apple.backupd - helper [968]: doesn't start is not at the request of backup Time Machine: running Backup

Interestingly, I was not able to find a log entry on the beginning of the TM backup.

Little Snitch provides very low flow to the SIN of 256 MB in the last hour. It was much higher when he started the backup yesterday. The network is 1 Gbps.

I noticed saving energy/system preferences had ' put to sleep when possible, hard drives "checked. "Enable the NAP" is also checked.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    Thank you.

    John

A device third-party network attached storage (NAS) or a router is unsuitable for use with Time Machine, especially if it's your only backup. I know that's not what you want to hear. I know that Time Machine accepts the device as a backup destination. I know that the manufacturer says the device will work with Time Machine, and I also know that it usually seems to work. Except when you are trying to restore and find that you can't.

Apple has published a specification for network devices that works with Time Machine. No third party provider, AFAIK, does meet this specification. They all use the application of Netatalk incomplete, obsolete Apple Filing Protocol.

Apple does not endorse any device third-party network for use with Time Machine. See this support article.

Network backup, use as destination an Apple Time Capsule or an external storage device connected to another Mac or a 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only 802.11ac base stations support time Machine, not older model.

Otherwise, use Time Machine at all. There are other ways to save, although none of them are nowhere near as effective or as well integrated with OS X. I don't have a specific recommendation.

If you are determined to continue to use the device with Time Machine, your only remedy for any resulting problem is the manufacturer (who will blame Apple, neither you nor anyone else but herself.)

  • Time Machine do not wake the Macbook to perform backups

I'm saving a Macbook Pro on a Mac Mini with OS X Server installed. Previously, I supported it up to a USB hard drive connected locally. It is 1 year and Yosemite, can it take hourly backups while you sleep as expected.

In both cases, Time Machine works fine, except one thing... Hourly backups do not, occur when the computer is in standby. In other words, the Mac does not wake itself for the backup as expected (Power Nap is enabled.)

I've seen similar to this, other issues involving a UPS connected by USB, but I have no one.

    What I tried:

    1. I did a clean (with format) installation of El Capitan of the recovery partition and did not restore from Time Machine (just dragged my music, photos, documents to their respective homes manually).

    2. I have also reset the SMC and the PRAM without effect on this issue.

    3. I upgraded 10.11.2 and the problem persists.

4 past of connected locally to target (USB) for a target of network (on OS X Server) without change

Starting from what a manual backup works perfectly and automatic backups occur as planned then I use the computer (that is, as long as it doesn't go to sleep).

Energy Saver preferences are using default values, Power Nap is enabled.

So my question is just... Before I contact support, does anyone know if there is a bug open for this report?  I * have * read the other threads and they speak very precisely a connected UPS number and that a fix was imminent in 10.11.2. The other owners of Macbook having this problem?

Time Machine wakes you up only the Mac to perform a backup, if the Mac is connected to a power outlet. If you did that, then it might be a bug that I don't know a solution.

  • I've never done a Time Machine backup and I have upgraded to iOS Sierra. Help!

I'm a fool. After owning my Macbook for 5 years, I failed to make a single Time Machine backup. I just saved my essential to an external hard drive. I have upgraded to iOS Sierra. Big mistake. I want to go back to iOS Capitan, but it does not seem possible. Now, my external hard drive is wiped clean (things are dark). What are my options? If I'm stuck with Sierra?

If you have downloaded El Capitan, it should always be available in your purchases. Now, you will need to make a backup to backup your personal files.

I reformatted the drive that I use for Time Machine (drive external usb with a capacity of 0.5 TB) during the upgrade of OS Sierra.

  • Time machine backup is too large, that is not true, said

After the upgrade to OS Sierra, Time Machine always tells me that the backup is too big to fit on the external drive that I use. I erased the disc and checked all volumes, I don't want to back up. He always tells me that the backup is 2 TB.

My boot drive has 155 GB in use, I do not understand why TM attempts to use 2 TB. I've removed the preferences, he always tells me that it is too big. The external drive has 1 TB of free space.

  • Delete older backups time machine from the server

I have a small number of iMacs here that back up using Time Machine on our local network to an external hard drive on an iMac running server. I added a second external hard drive and I say most of the Mac to use instead. Once they have saved once the new drive safely - how can I remove the old backup of the first disc? Is it safe to just delete the sparsebundle to it? Or is there a way to do it properly

    TIA

    Andy

Yes, it is safe to delete the sparsebundle in the old media from backup after you remove as the backup location and create your 1st upward on the new location. Since your iMac is now pointing to the new backup media, they are more associated in the former. If you have no other Mac backup on old media, you can simply reformat.

  • Time Machine - how to change discs

    Hello

Until now, I had time Machine using external HD_1 external drive. I just bought a new drive, external HD_2. I'd like Time Machine to begin to use external HD_2 while the addition of new backups to existing backups database.

My question is: How can I transfer the backup database that is currently on HD_1 to HD_2? Do, I just have:

    -stop time Machine

-in the Finder, move the folder of backups from one volume to another database

-to tell Time Machine to use HD_2 and reboot

or are there other complications - for example I'll end up with 2 databases disconnected backups - I need?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Mac OSx Sierra Time Machine WD my cloud

Since upgrading to Mac OSX Sierra my Macbook Pro and Macbook Air are not capable of doing Time Machine back Ups to a WD MyCloud drive that is connected to our router.

We have updated the firmware on the WD My Cloud drive to the latest version and contacted WD on this problem, so far they have not come with a solution to the problem.

If you open Time Machine preferences and then observe what happens, by hitting 'Back Up Now' systems do "Looking to save the disc" then "Preparing backup" then stop and then go back to the status of 'rest' without backup anything to the top at all. It is the same on both machines. You can see here: Time Machine Back Up My Cloud

Notice how the drive icon changes to the point where it stops working and then goes to the other drive which is a USB.

Now, to complicate the issue further... an iMac connected via Ethernet to the router can go back to the My Cloud drive perfectly as before. If Apple changed something with the wireless protocols I think but that?

    Hi stevefrompembury,

Thanks for posting in the Community Support from Apple! I understand that your or your Mac back up Time machine since the update. Backups are certainly crucial to ensure that your data remains secure, so I'm happy to offer some suggestions.

You have already tried a few milestones. I recommend you take a look through this article so that you have covered all the steps mentioned, including the section titled 'Control your readers': If you can not back up or restore your Mac with Time Machine

  • Time Machine restore problems

Me again... still to try to recover my drive hard because I tried to make the Boot Camp.

In preparation for boot from the external drive, I had a cool time machine backup of the system. The system was Captain El.

When I started pressing cmd + R to choose the way to go, I entered the utilities disk and tried to format/erase the existing partitions so that one new partition could be created, and then I use boot camp to install windows again.

Somehow after I did that and came back to restore options the system reported it no were not available to boot from the boot floppies and asked me to tie a boot disk. Having no other than the old drive boot disk that I had replaced out of the computer when he was a Maverick, I used as a startup disk and go to revive the position and where I chose what to do.

When I choose now to restore from the external drive that has my time backup machine El captain on this program trying to install for a bit, and then he told me that ' year error occurred during the addition of a system of recovery on the destination disk. It then asks me to restart to get rid of the problem, and of course the problem won't go away.

If I choose to reset the computer he'll want to maverick. I agree with going back that far and punting again and I'll probably have to do this because it appears that I have no other choice. I hope that I can install Maverick and then restore my El Captain off the external drive.

    Hello Farzad_K,

Thanks for asking for help with Time Machine here in Apple Support communities. I am pleased to offer you things to check this.

Since your Mac is fairly new, I recommend first start in recovery of the Internet. Here is the article on this subject: on Mac OS recovery. I know it says it's the Sierra, but the steps are the same for El Capitan. Use the second set of instructions for the recovery of the Internet with the keys: command ⌘ ⌥ (alt) Option and the letter R.

For this with the drive installed that you want to install OS X El Capitan to. If you have changed to the older readers with the Mavericks, switch back, and then run the recovery of the Internet. This will fix your hard drive and then allows you to install the operating system from Apple servers. Then you can restore the backup, or try to run a Migration Wizard using this help article: move your content to a new Mac.

Thanks again and relax your day wonderful.
