Need a license key to reinstall Windows 7 Starter

I have a HP Mini 110-3135dx. The hard drive is dead and I don't have a recovery media. I can reinstall the OS, but I need a license key for it. What should I do? Is it possible to get this based on the serial number of the laptop?

Hello:

If you do not know the product key on the bottom of the laptop, then you will need media recovery purchase that normally only requires a product key to work, or you will need to buy a new operating system.

HP and Microsoft will provide a replacement product key.

Just call them and you will see the runaround, you get.  Each company will tell you to get it.

My HP mini is a black screen and I do a new reinstall top can get instructions step on a clean install to start windows 7. I have my product key and and the external dvd drive to boot windows with. Is anyway that I can get help with this without charge for customer support.

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

This is how the recovery partition is accessible to most popular brands...

For HP, press F11 directly after switching on the device

If the recovery partition does not work, see the following resources:

I need my product key for my windows 8

Where did you buy Windows 8? If it came pre-loaded on your system?

If you bought in a store, it is in the package.

    If you bought it online:

Go to the order summary page, you can find your product key:

    https://www.mswos.com/

If Windows 8 came preloaded on your computer:

With Windows 8, Microsoft changed stickers that have the product key that the user must type in during the installation of the operating system of new embedded BIOS product key. The idea is that by eliminating the tile, you eliminate one of the easiest ways for nefarious users get a legitimate product key. The sticker also eliminating product key removes any concern that the vignette could get damaged while at the same time eliminating the long and irritating the process of typing in various letters and numbers in the installation of the operating system.

If the user has to reinstall the operating system on a computer with Windows 8, the installation process automatically captures key software product of the motherboard BIOS without input from the user. This means that these stickers familiar windows product key will no longer appear on Windows 8 computers.

Last week to 10 days, I received lots of calls from someone called PC Support (which sound as if they come from the India) telling me that they want to access my PC to show me the problems that are reported to them from my ISP about something and real operating system Windows on the license key is about to expire.

I suspect that it is a new scam to try to sell the product, anti-virus/malware any... but it got me wondering whether or not it is a real-world scenario.

Can someone me one way or another?

    3. Select your "country" in the list.

  • I need a product key to install windows.

My hard drives of computers were completely destroyed by overhead sprinklers during a fire. I have the disk to reinstall windows 8. now he asks me the product key, there is no product key on the disc. I lost the manual that came with the system. During this time, I don't have access to the internet until I have install windows. Thank you.

What do you mean you 'assume' it was Windows 8?  You don't know?  It is 8 or 8.1?  Because it seems that the original system was destroyed on the functional level, and because versions OEM of Windows 8 and 8.1 have incorporated into BIOS product key, you will need either to obtain assistance from the manufacturer of the computer or, more likely, buy a license.

To say thank you, click the button of "Bravo!"

Appears that Microsoft has changed the terms of the license with Windows 8. See the next root thread: http://superuser.com/questions/517142/running-windows-8-in-a-vm-can-i-use-the-copy-that-came-with-my-laptop

In addition, a rather good article exceeding the various changes in the terms of the license of the new Windows 8: http://www.zdnet.com/how-the-new-windows-8-license-terms-affect-you_p2-7000003028/

They consider now a physical PC and a virtual machine to be * separated * computers. Since the preinstalled Windows 8 use an OEM license, this license cannot be moved between the "computers".

For anyone interested in doing something similar (mobile Windows 8 in a virtual machine), you must purchase an additional license. Upgrade license or a System Builder should work.

    Request for Info

    Hi all

I have a Dell Pc, N series, with original xp pro installed on this brand.  Now, the computer is a little sluggish and would do a reformat.    I have the xp of origin cd pro with cd key sticker.  I would like to know if I re - install the original xp with the same cd key, it will accept the same key.  Please specify.

See the response of Daavee, but also, note the following:

Why you want to reformat and reinstall? In my view, it is usually a mistake. With a minimum of care, should never be to reinstall Windows (XP or any other version). I ran Windows 3.0, 3.1, WFWG 3.11, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 now, each for the period of time before the next release is out and everyone on two or more machines here. I never reinstalled none of them (with one exception--a problem that I worked on for weeks without success), and I've never had anything more than an occasional minor problem.

It is my belief that this erroneous notion comes from the technical support people in most of the major OEMs. Their solution to almost any problem, for they know not quickly answer is "reformat and reinstall. It is the ideal solution for them. It gets you phone turned off quickly, it almost always works, and it does not need to do any real troubleshooting (a skill that most of them has obviously not in any great degree).

But it leaves you with all the work and all the problems. You must restore all backups of your data, you must reinstall all of your programs, you must reinstall all Windows and updates of the application, you must locate and install all the necessary drivers for your system, you will need to recustomize Windows and all your applications to work the way you are comfortable with.

In addition to all these things being long and painful, you may encounter difficulties with some of them: you will find all your CDs application? You will find all the necessary installation codes? You have data backups to restore? You still remember all the customizations and settings that can be installed to make everything work the way you like it? Sometimes there are problems that are so difficult to resolve that Windows has to be reinstalled properly. But they are few and far between; RESETTLEMENT should not be a substitute for troubleshooting; It should be a last resort, to do that once all other troubleshooting by qualified person attempts have failed.

And perhaps most important: If you reformat and reinstall without knowing what caused your problem, you will most likely repeat the behavior that caused it and quickly find yourself in exactly the same situation.

If you have any problems, post the details of them here; It is likely that someone can help you and you won't have to reinstall.

  • Downgrade the license key to install Windows XP Pro image

    Hello

I bought 4 desktops additional whitebox from my provider. He said they can't get licenses of Windows 7 and I have them for us. We have a Windows SBS domain with about 60 workstations XP Pro. The new jobs all have the same Mo as some previous purchases and we 'pictures' for these machines on our network. I often have to change on a workstation with the other due to software or other issues, so for now, I don't want Windows 7 on a machine that I have to train someone on if I have to spend on their machine.

How I can or I can 'image' machines with XP Pro and use Windows 7 key to activate the operating system?

I don't want to go through the process of installing Windows 7 on all these machines and I then have to do the downgrade to XP on each. And if I have to 'image' of this box of I need now another "image" of Windows 7?

And finally, if I'm having to go through these hoops, do I need a XP Pro license key for the downgrade after inserting the XP Pro CD on the Windows 7 machine?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello DoubleAce,

Microsoft offers rights to downgrade you can have a look through the following links:

  • Invalid license key after reinstall

    Hello

I have a Win7Pro machine that I bought a few weeks ago. The BONE has become corrupted and I reinstalled with a spare disk install Win 7 Pro, I had from another machine. I extracted the key of the machine and used for resettlement - it has been accepted and all seemed well. It was, after all, the same material and the same key. However, after some time to install the operating system began to say that this is not valid?

I guess that's because I used a Setup disk that was not initially associated with the key? Please tell us how I can remedy this.

  • How to reinstall Windows 7 Starter free...

I got Windows 7 Starter pre-loaded in my hp netbook when I bought it, as I remember I have gave me a product key I can find now is no more. I accidentally uninstalled the Windows 7 starter pack and now don't know how to get it back. As I can not open my documents and I only have Notepad to work with. Without having to buy a pack, what can I do? How to re - install?

    Option 1:

If the COA sticker is damaged, you must use the recovery partition to reinstall Windows 7, it will be exempt from the need to use the product key to activate your installation of Windows 7.

    Option 2:

If your recovery partition is not available or damaged, you must contact the manufacturer of your computer, and request that a defined recovery disk you can use to reinstall Windows 7. They could practice a small shipping and handling. This will exempt the need to also use the product key.

    Option 3:

If neither options 1 or 2 is possible, then you will need to invest in a new license of full version of detail.
