  I tried to send a response to a peer. I clicked on the button "Answer" in the bottom right of his message, but my answer is back to my original thread. The 1st link in the message is 'Learn to use the forum.' It is said (stuck),

  Windows updates

  Everyone has an opinion about updates.  On a Windows 7 system, the need for updates - once the system is installed and the main updates are installed, AND assuming that it does not install no matter what additional programs or software - is mainly to preserve the system of some security problems are hiding everything.

  If you want to turn off Windows updates, then do it.  You are the admin.  It is your machine that is at risk - or not - and it is your decision to make.

  Resource monitor

  Resource hogs could be traced using the resource monitor.  Even on Windows 7, the tool is pretty sophisticated. You can spend time learning how to use it effectively.  However, the program is very effective to help you quickly catch programs that are hogging resources (memory and network, for example) that you have available.  For example, if you have a program that took all the memory and ran Amok, so to speak, the monitor will be able to quickly show what offending program to the wrongdoer.  In most cases, you can kill the culprit (identify, right-click > kill).  If you trash your system and really hang things up, press the power button and accident-shut down the computer.  You really want to do it very often. but every Admin has made at least once a clearing.

  Maintenance

  • Close all your programs and shut down your computer
  • Unplug everything (little unifying for the keyboard / mouse external can stay)
  • Perform the Hard Reset for your model of laptop
  • Start the computer and connect
  • Reinstall your driver validity sensor:

  • Restart the computer and log in
  • (Re) Install the Digital Persona software

  At this point, I restart the computer once more and sign in, although this software is so robust that you could get away with jumping final restart.

• Need for vSphere Syslog Collector?

  We currently use free vSphere Syslog Collector to collect the syslogs to our ESXi hosts. We do this, we have historical newspapers (as you know, newspapers on a crushed enough ESXi host quickly) in case we need to solve something or to download logs to VMware support,. I wonder if there are currently or will feature in VMware vCenter Log Insight in order to export the log files for a specific host, so that we could use only the log files of Log Insight, if we need to download files from VMware Support and not need to have the hosts connect to vSphere Syslog Collector and more Log Insight.

  Hey Mike - Log Insight you can run a query on a specific host (i.e. Add a constraint where hostname equal to ) and then you can export the results (available in the dropdown to the right of the search button). That said, a support package contains more than the newspapers of ESXi. In most cases, VMware support will probably ask a bundle full support instead of a few newspapers to a particular host. Also, if you use Log Insight, then it is there's no real reason to continue to use the tool of dumper ESXi syslog.

  My company is about to make a decision to go forward with either entirely under VMware or XenApp license and I need some expert points to swing the argument for VMware. We have 24 servers, 3 are Citrix servers with a total of 40 users between 3 servers. Overall we have 75 total users with 40 being removed (on Citrix) and we have 1 Exchange server, 1 file server, and 20 SQL databases on 3 servers, other typical servers are backup, telephone system, etc... Our VAR is crazy-Citrix and talked trash on VMware from the start.

  Here, the commitment has been send me VMware class where I myself VCP (awesome!)  There are already 25 k $ in our budget for 2009 to BUY VMware, but the management is at a standstill because of the influence of this VAR. all you have for me would be great because I don't have any experience Xen nor enough experience VMware, either! We have 3 servers virtualized and running on ESX - 3i. I also installed ESX - 4i on a spare box last week.

  Well, I have work on both but would prefer to use VMware if possible due to the fact its highly scalable, performance and reliability.  You know almost all fortune 100, 500 and 1000 using VMware as their data solution center just because it is proven and reliable overall and they have many more solutions you can take part as view, LM, SRM, ThinApp, vShield Zones, VDR, here about all-stop service.  I like Xen App 5.0 and it is a great proven with Softgrid and ThinApp application virtualization.  You compare with Xen Enterprise & vSphere?

  The best person to help you convince your boss is VMware sales representative or partner VAC, they trained in these areas and have very well planted and weaknesses that they can launch at Citrix competitive at any time.  I took online sales professional VMware and its really great program and has a lot of good training and a lot of information on competitive.  I would ask VMware Sales Engineer to come in and present free and they will answer questions, you can have and you'll get secure with the VMware solution.

  We plan to have redundancy with 5 ports is one physical switch, and other other 5 ports goes to another physical switch.

  For the moment, we are looking to just 5 machines to VMs on each host.  Regarding the construction of the vm machine, I have to create a separate for each machine virtual switch if I want to use 2 ports by a vm machine?

  You can really use 2 ports by a vm machine, unless the virtual machine has two network cards.  At this point, they should not be on the same network, and it's not really a good practice for servers, unless you use them as routers.

  In order to use several physical from a vSwitch perspective maps, your physical network cards which are the uplinks to the vSwitch must run on the same physical switch.  Interfaces will be to separate switches offer redundancy only and cannot be aggregated unless the switches are 'stacked' together, effectively making it a logical switch.

  So, with this many ports, I would use a pair of service console, a pair for vMotion, another pair for storage traffic (if you are using iSCSI/NFS), and then you have 2 pairs remaining for virtual machine network traffic.  For 5 vm, it's a huge amount of bandwidth, but 4 physical network adapters to GigE should go a long way toward the more vm traffic needs.
