Need help: Acrobat Pro XI - reduced size PDF vs PDF optimized

I hope that some of you people can help me, I can't contact Adobe customer service.  I've recently updated to Acrobat Pro XI.  In my old version of Acrobat Pro, I used to be able to take a large PDF file (let's say 10 MB) and shrink considerably down with relative ease (less than 1 MB).  The file could then be easily sent, share, read, and especially don't take tons of hard drive space.  With this new version of Acrobat Pro XI, this same file of 10 MB barely reduced up to 7 or 8 MB.  I played with different settings in either the file-> save as others-> PDF of reduced size and File-> Save As-> optimized other PDF.  No matter what I try, I can't reach anywhere near the same compression results than what I used to be able to achieve with my older version of Pro.  I can get the file size reduced, but the reduced quality of the file is trash.

Has anyone else has this problem as well?  Anyone of you have any suggestions on what to do to fix?  I have mainly to scan a document in PDF with my HP OfficeJet Pro and then reduce the size of the PDF file after the scan.  I could scan the document with DPI lower initially (currently scan 300 dpi in grayscale), but then I have not the quality of the scanned image I need to reduce the file down so that it can later be reprinted at a good enough quality.

Leonie... I could have thought of it!  Don't have time to play with it now, but try this out.  Open large PDF you want to shrink in size.  Go to view-> tools-> processing of documents.  There should be a toolbar that opens on the right side of the screen next to the document.  One of the selections will be in PDF format to optimize.  When I did, I got a 12 MB document reduce less than 1 MB!  You can play with the slider to choose a smaller / more low quality vs a bigger / better quality.  I don't know why they hid this feature here, but I think that's what we are looking for.  I highlighted the command and dragged to my main toolbar to make it easier to access next time.

Hope this helps!  I would like to know how it works for you.

  • Need Acrobat Pro to assemble master PDFS of different size PDF?

I have a need to create a master PDF (portfolio), other files PDF, with the master PDF containing Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and drawings of different size already CAD converted PDF files.  Do I need Acrobat Pro to manage documents of different sizes, or simply Acrobat Standard.

Another question - to annotate the master PDF file with highlighting, emphasis boxes around key information and text boxes, I guess that Acrobat Standard and Pro have the same capabilities.

    Fix?

    Thanks for the help everyone.

To create a PDF portfolio, will need you Acrobat X PRO, this feature isn't available in STD Version. For more information, see Acrobat X product comparison matrix.

  • Switch to Acrobat Pro DC of Adobe PDF export failed

Thank you all of you knowledgeable people who want to help.

Acrobat Pro DC subscription a few days of my existing export Adobe PDF, but when I enter the area "Security & Privacy" and look at "connected applications", he said that nothing is connected.

I had Adobe PDF export, which had only a few features.  I managed to convert his plan for cheaper, but when I try to activate most of the features I want to use, for, I get redirected to the site to buy this product. I suspect it's because nothing appears in the connected applications.

If I then proceed to the section titled 'Plans and products' it shows that I currently have Acrobat Pro DC, then it shows my history of having Adobe export in PDF format for about 5 years, and then converting into Acrobat Pro DC.

I have signed for and sign. Update Adobe Reader. It's almost 02:00 and I'm irritated.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you Joe.

    Hi josephj36051700,

I see that you have Acrobat Pro DC subscription & membership for export to Adobe PDF format has expired.

Acrobat Reader & Acrobat Pro continuous are two different applications.

To use the services of Acrobat, you will need to download Acrobat Pro DC following the steps described in this document KB, download and install Adobe Acrobat DC & use the same (Acrobat Pro DC) instead of Acrobat Reader DC to use the services to export in PDF format.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI - print to PDF-broken

Hello. I have recently noticed a problem with the printer driver PDF Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. Print all PDF functions seem to be broken.

    Web browser applications:

Firefox (my main web browser), the print driver invites you to me which file I want to save the PDF and then the status bar for the printing/conversion process will reach 50% and display the title of the error message dialog box: error in the printer. Dialog box Message: an error occurred during printing.

In Chrome, the print job to tempt me to a file name and after I click on 'Print', nothing would happen. No error message. No PDF file is created.

In Microsoft Edge, the same result as directed by Chrome. No error message. No PDF file is created.

    In Adobe Acrobat Reader DC:

Print results Adobe PDF printer in two error dialog boxes, "the document could not be printed" followed by "it has not chosen to print pages". This is despite the fact that 'All' has been selected as an option in "Pages to print" in the print dialog box.

    In the Office Applications:

Same results according to the Chrome and Microsoft test Edge. No error message. No PDF file is created.

    In other applications:

Thunderbird translated "an error occurred when printing"

Notepad translated "the handle is invalid."

The last time I could print to PDF with success was before Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and Windows 10 upgrade (from Windows 7 Ultimate).

I tried a "repair Acrobat Installation" under the drop-down help Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and despite an attempt to repair under the administrator account, it has not solved the problem.

I do not experience these symptoms on my 3 Surface Pro, which is also running Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and Windows 10 (upgrade of Windows 8.1).

Is anyone else facing similar issues on Windows 10? I noticed another thread on a broken print in PDF format, but that one seems to be content to users of Windows 7.

Any idea or advice would be much appreciated.

I had the same problem. Using Procmon and found that install Acrobat was written to the registry entry to distill 11 but distill has been reading the registry entry for Distiller 10. Basically, I used regedit, exported HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\11.0, opens the file in Notepad, changed all 11 in the tens, then imported. Worked perfect after that.

  • Acrobat Pro DC. All PDFs, I opened have security value without extraction, no deletion of page,.

My colleague has no such limitation on the same files. PDF files were made with InDesign CC 2015. I can make a PDF file, but I have the same problem when I open them in Acrobat. I need to add and delete pages in the documents. This is a new installation.

I'm on deadline next week and this pushes at my busy colleague.

    Acrobat.PNG

You're not open the document in Acrobat. Acrobat could probably go up or retrieve documents.

You open in Acrobat Reader/Adobe Reader. This cannot do these things, so he said no "authorized". This can be quite confusing; You cannot use Acrobat Reader to check that they are set to.
