Need password protection

I want to put a password on my laptop while traveling. How to lock my computer while traveling? Can you please send a link or give me very clear and simple 'HOW TO' instructions?  I use my admin code? Will I need a new password? What are the settings I will implement? Wil I change screen saver time and sleep to "never"?  I usually close my cover when I leave the room to let rest the computer - it's just at home and it's just me and her husband in the House - HOWEVER, I am concerned with coming summer travel. Thank you.

What follows has instructions: p-other-people-from-using-it.html http://www.macworld.com/article/2910939/how-to-password-protect-your-mac-and-kee

If you are really concerned about the protection of your data, I highly recommend turn on FileVault:

  • need to reset password for excel password protection

I wrote the word password but it does not work and I tried all the ones I use, you can reset the password to unlock the protected mode to work on files.

If you have a password protected Excel or Word doc MS provides no way of editing/remove the password if you forget.

If you are looking for through Google or Bing using appropriate search terms you will find many free utilities to overcome this obstacle.

  • Help! Need to enter a password protected document

My friend's husband died suddenly.  We try to find all documents with respect to a will or anything.  We

found a document on his computer that is named forms_legal, and it is password protected.   We have no idea of what is the password, and

It seems to break, you will pay $$ for software, which we do not know yet will work. !!! I tried about 1/2 dozen without software and came to nothing.   Can anyone else?  Adobe will help us if we provide a death certificate?

Check out pdfpirate.net and will remove the password. The site seems dangerous, but I have run that several PDFs through it and immediately checked for malicious bugs and have been clean.

  • Why get the file password protected Type.vi

Hello...  We have a code that was developed in LabVIEW 8.6...  We need to try to save this code all the way back to version 7.1...  I taped 8.6--> 8.5--> 8.2.1--> 8.0 with no problems...  But when I try and save it back to 8.0 to 7.1 I have meet a LabVIEW 8 vi which has no equivalent functionality in 7.1...  And there's a single vi

    C:\Program NIUninstaller Instruments\LabVIEW 8.x\vi.lib\Utility\lvfile.llb\Get file Type.vi

When I look at this vi to 8.x, to try to see if I can replace its functionality by writing code in 7.1, I find that the file Get Type.vi is password protected...  More out of curiosity than anything, why this password code protected?  I didn't know that the purchased standard LabVIEW code is protected by Word...  Can someone tell me why this is?  Thanks bob...

    Professor!

and anyone who can run in this situation...

If you run Yosemite 10 and you find yourself unable to access directly on wireless Deskjet 2540 because you do not have the password

    AND

You can not access the EWS page by the directions on the map generated when you hold down the button wireless live 3 seconds...

    Try this

Make sure that the direct wireless (on the printer) option is turned on

Go to your control panel (icon usually appears on your dock, it looks like a gear)

    Clikc on double

    Double-click Printers & Scanners

Select the 2450 Deskjet icon that has the green light next to it. (if you have more than one icon - go in your wifi settings and select HP-PRINT--Deskjet 2540 series)

    OR

Click on the printer that the printer has been selected.

    Click settings

Click on see the printers Web page - this will take you to the EWS

Your browser opens a page that will display the SAP - there is a saying, that you will be redirected to a secure page and your browser may display a message on the connection, or the security certificate is invalid. If, in order to follow the instuctions to accept the certificate. Click OK (and double check DON'T SHOW THIS OPTION if you want to)

The EWS page opens in the NETWORK of the top menu tab

Select Wirless live in the left menu (it will take a few seconds to process)

You should now see the situation of Direct Wirless, Pasword and HP wirless live direct name

To change any of these settings click on "change settings" at the botom of the page.

After you save the new setting go to your wi - Fi (via the icon in the main menu bar (at the top of the page right quaderant of your screen or through 'Network' in your control panel))

Choose the HP Print... network, and then type your password (if you selected this option)

    IMPORTANT NOTE:

If you use direct wireless you may not be connected to the internet at the same time - this was my case.

Hope that helps and bye for now.

  • How to password protect a wordpad document? Is it still possible? any other way to fix it?

I'm trying to password protect a wordpad file, could you help me on this please?

Operating systems Windows NT as a Windows XP user "permissions" rather than passwords to control access to the files on your computer.

However, if you want an easy way to password protect a single file, just "zip" and set a password to the compressed folder.  Right-click on the file, and then click send to compressed (zipped) folder of-->.  Once the zipped folder, double-click the folder to open it and then click on file > add a password

    See also--> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306531

I strongly suggest that you do NOT use the system files of Windows (available on XP Pro) encryption, unless fully understand and have read and respected the EFS file system best practices

Other above, you will need a third-party utility.  Google is your friend.

  • Files & folder sharing between XP, Vista, Seven with password protected

How to share files or folder between XP, Vista & seven... must password protected
My vista and my friend seven sharing very well, is password protected and I would like to add another XP at the center network and sharing as well, but I find the xp you have a problem, it can make sharing with vista & seven only without password protected and I would like to know how can I do with password protected sharing.
    Below are done on xp:
    1. install the update kb922120
2.secpol.msc-> authentication security LAN network manager set to send LM & NTLMv2 - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.
Using Xp to Vista to access, seven a shared folder, no problem, while the password protected is located next
Using XP to Vista, the folder shared seven, the access you have problem while the password is defined on
It show no permission, but suppose that displays the prompt for credentials...

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

In Windows 7, go to control panel > everything in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You don't want to use the residential group unless you have all Windows 7 machines. If you do and you want to use the homegroup, see Windows 7 Help & Support. Otherwise, in sharing advanced:

Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
    Plug the password protected sharing

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, running on Windows 7 sharing files and printer as above will take care of this for you. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:

Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

    D. Si one or more of the computers on your network are XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. In Windows 7 I usually share the Desktop of the user and the Public directory. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!
