Need to remove data files existing Installer before reconstruction Installer?

I hope that quick question - when I build the installer of my software, it creates a folder called Volume containing setup.exe and various other support files, including a 'bin' folder that has several levels of folders located below.  If I change my software and then rebuild the installer, it puts the new files in the same place.  My concern is that there is somehow a version older installation files are not replaced that might somehow alter the new software if I don't get their first road (for example by emptying or deleting the folder of the Volume).

On a more realistic note, even if the functionality is the same, if there are additional files from a previous version that became useless, I can decrease the size of my Installer if I remove them.  I know that not related in the folder of the Volume files are left there when I have reconstitute the installer, for LabVIEW is not delete all the files before starting a new construction.  I don't know if it is remove all the unused files/folders in the multiple levels of folders under the folder "bin".

Does anyone know if my concerns have any basis in reality?  Should I always remove the existing Volume folder before building a new installer?

Thank you

Joe

The Application Builder will place the Setup files in the specified directory.  It will replace the old files, if they exist.  Files that were already part of the Setup program, but no longer, will remain intact.  It is always recommended to delete the folder of the Volume before you build your final volume installation folder.

There are a number of things you can do to- temporarily - free up disk space.  The only real solution, however, is to get a bigger internal hard drive.   You can move the data to an external drive, but if it's the data that you use frequently, slower access times may annoy you.  Therefore, I do not recommend that you move your My Documents folder in its entirety on an external drive, but you can certainly do this by following the related instructions.

    • You can run Disk Cleanup (start > run > cleanmgr > OK) If you have more than one user, don't forget to run Disk Cleanup in all user profiles.  Also note that Disk Cleanup removes only the files in the temporary directory that have not been consulted in the past seven days, then you may want to manually remove the contents of C:\Documents and Settings\Settings\Temp for each user.  Just make sure you reboot before you delete recent files in the directory temp
    • You can reduce the size allocated for the restoration of the system to about 1 GB (right click on desktop > properties > system restore > settings)
    • You can disable hibernation (if you don't use it) (right click on an empty spot on the desktop > properties > screen saver > power > Hibernate)
    • You can disable the indexing of the drive, which will also speed up your computer a bit (http://lifehacker.com/031440/turn-off-indexing-and-speed-up-windows-xp)
    • You can reduce the size of your Internet browser cache (depending on the browser that you use)
    • You can remove most of the $NTUninstallKBxxxxxx files $ following the directions here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Hotfix_backup.htm (read the warnings in the gray box first)

But none of these answers you will earn really large amounts of space for very long.  The term solution time is a bigger hard drive.

In the meantime, download and run JDiskReport, that will show you graphically what files take up more space and seem to so indicate what files you must delete or move to an external drive.

By all means uninstall applications is more desired or use the option - but do not count on the data in the control panel > Add / Remove programs that an application has been used "rarely" or "last use" date to some time ago.  Make sure that you don't really need an application before you click 'uninstall '.

  • Synchronization of changes to contributor region data files

    Hello

We are currently the subject of a redesign of the site and, therefore, we are working on new models in the region. In addition to coding patterns, we also write new definitions of the region to accommodate the additions and deletions of several elements that relate to our new design. Currently, the items in the new definition of the region are named identical to the former definition of the region. Doing so, however, can become a maintenance problem in the future that some names are not necessarily to their end in the model and the site as a whole.

I want to do is rename these items (which are incorporated within the definition of the region) so that their names are more relevant for their new purpose. The challenge with this involves all data files existing contributor. Obviously, we don't want to repeat these contributor data files to adapt the new names within the new definition of the region. It is with this problem, that I turn to you, the experts for help: is it possible to synchronize changes made to a definition of the region so that they also appear in the contributor data files?

For example, if I have an element named "ImgLarge" I would like to rename it to "IntroImage", I would that all my data files of the contributor that are associated with this definition of the region to rename their 'wcm:element' from 'ImgLarge' to 'IntroImage '. Through testing, I noticed that this does not change the contributor data file. In fact, the contributor data file retains the existing (ImgLarge) with its data item and just creates a new element (IntroImage) for me to fill it with content. I wonder if there is a tool or process available to synchronize changes made to a definition of area out to its contributor data files until I turn to writing a script for this.

Here is a summary of what I'm looking for. Essentially, I want just the data files of contributor to resemble their definitions of the region, while keeping the same content ' if their names change.

    1. modification of the element name is reflected in the CDF (as discussed above)

    2. removal of the element leads to the deletion of the content of the CDF

    3. Add the item gets reflected in the CDF (this is done natively, as far as my requirements go).

    Thank you for your time!

There is nothing I know of out of the box which carries out this mission.

You should be able to write a custom component to do this. You will need the following:

1 search to find all IDUS who have a particular xRegionDefinition the tag on them.

    2. an analysis of the XML library.

    3. a mapping between the new values in the definition of the region and which must be replaced to the CDF.

  • Remove the file name characters when exporting to file

    Hi all

I worked with Silly-V , which has been extremely useful in creating a script to automate creating files in Illustrator.

What I need help with now is the ability to add in this script, the ability to remove "x #" character of a filename on export. This would be ideal, as it will completely automate what I did by hand for months.

The current script, that we have put in place takes generally, which would take me about 1 minute per file and it has reduced to 10 seconds. Translate this in the whole of the need to treat roughly 800-1 000 files, and you can see where the time invested is decreased significantly.

The last piece of the puzzle is the removal of characters from ONE of the two files that are created through this script.

First of all, this is the current script. It seems to work perfectly for what I ask it to do.

I found the program Name Mangler done an exceptional job of the completion of the task of renaming. Here's a screenshot of what I'm asking for looks like with this program.

My ultimate goal is to be able to integrate this unique Name Mangler feature the existing script I posted above. Now, the problem is that I need ONLY to assign the file created by the section of the lines 66-71. As you can see, I need to remove the file name starting at the index of 14 characters.

Is it possible and something that anyone can help with?

      });
      app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);

    test();

This one has a new parameter "charsOffStart" that you have to stick in your two-functions for the economy, and it will be lop however much from character now!

  • Moving oracle data file while the database is broken down

I have a database in montage mode while I restore the last of my data files through rman, which won't be finished for a day and a half, and then there's a mountain of archivelogs to apply. I need to pass the data to another disk files so that I have room to restore this file. I looked around a few instructions, but they are all different. Many of them tell me to stop first of all, the database is not a good option with the restoration goes. More say to use the operating system to copy the file, but a site ignored that. It is even said that I can't log out of my session between saying oracle sql to move the file and open the database. All I get is a list of steps that all take my database work.

Currently, I copy the file to the new destination of Linux, and I'm confused about what my options are and how to get the data file of movement before Oracle is running out of space for my restoration, without doing anything to make things worse. I guess I can just wait for the copy at the end and then run something like "alter rename file ' / old/my_file.dbf ' to ' / new/my_file.dbf '; If I have to cancel the copy for a reason, it is not a big deal, as long as I don't have the space in time.

A quick look, it seems that you should be able to move the data file and to a change of name as you have suggested, as long as you are in editing mode. I hope you have good backup (or an easier way to recover) in case it does not work.

If there is a permission problem, I can remove files via Filezilla, using the same credentials - without problem)

  • Instant orphaned files - need to recover data on the basic disk

    Hello

I'm sure this has been asked several times before, but how merge content from an instant orphan to the basic disk?

Reading over there seem to be several different methods to do so.

I have a virtual machine with three RDM, the virtual machine is running at the wide base VMDK disks but there is a single snapshot file associated with each base VMDK, snapshots do not appear in the Snapshot Manager.

I tried to change the snapshot. The VMDK files and change the parent CIDs for the basic disk, but still not instant show in the Snapshot Manager.

Is the best way to stop the virtual machine, remove the inventory and then add it to the inventory, I don't see the shots if the parent CID is correct?

    What is a better method?

    2. turn off then turn off the virtual machine (if it is not already off). Stop the current virtual machine with any Active snapshots.

    3. once the virtual machine is completely turned off, create a unique snapshot of the virtual machine and do not feed upward after this step.

4 browse your data store for the virtual machine and look for the numbers you hard files. Instant latest should only be a few megabytes, and you want one that is just before that.

    5. go to the command line console and edit the .vmx for your virtual machine in the container for data store. Looking for a similar article to the following for each of your virtual disks.

    scsi0:0.present = "true"
    scsi0:0.fileName = "???-00002.vmdk"
    scsi0:0.deviceType = "scsi-hardDisk"

You want to change the "scsi0:0.fileName =" section under the same file name that you found in step 4. You will need to repeat this in the file for each virtual disk on your VM.
Save the .vmx file, overwriting the original.

    6. now, it will be a long process, if the hard files are large (more than 20 concerts) and can last several hours. During this process, you may lose connectivity to your ESX Server on the client of the infrastructure. What you need to do is run the below command from within the container to store the virtual machine data.

    vmware-cmd <your .vmx file> removesnapshots

    7. once the previous step is complete, check your VM settings in client infrastructure and check that your virtual disks are now pointing to the original hard file (does not contain de-00001 etc.). If everything was successful, you should be able to power to the top of your VM.

    8. once the virtual machine is running and check the operation, you can remove the last numbered - 0000x.vmdk that was created from your snapshot in the third stage (should only be a few megabytes). This file must have been ignored by the instant withdrawal because you have changed the .vmx file.

Question I have is if the basic disk has been changed today I lose all changes today when merging the snapshots (which have not been written to since 18:00 yesterday)- or will be the basic disk back to 18:00 yesterday and lose all changes today?

If you need to extract data from instant orphans, you know that you can NOT do without altering the current state
new files from today will still be there - but they are not referenced in the MFT and other pieces are replaced by old data of the orphan snapshot
If you must do this with a backup...

or - possibly use a snashot of the RDM, as it is now...

in any case – which gives good advice is almost impossible without sitting in front of the case
