New to VMware and Exchange 2010

Hello

I'm new to VMware and have some questions about the installer.  We just bought a HP DL380 G7 server and Exchange 2010.  I want to virtualize this server with a BES.  I'm trying to understand the best way to proceed.  We also have a Dell EqualLogic iSCSI SAN (PS4000).  Wouldn't it be better for me to boot from SAN and have ESxi installed on the SAN?  Or would it be preferable for ESxi installed on the server and have my VM hosted/installed on the SAN?  Thanks for the help.

Hello owblueiii,

I almose same infrastructure such as this, when I started the virtualization process was confused in this place, finally, we kept the boot on local, VMs oniSCSI SAN.

advantages: 1. because if you have any questions you can the Como.

2 and also a little difficult to troubleshoot if you have the on iscsi san boot partition.

3. you can register your vms on san iscsi timing if you want the new ESX installation.

Hope it's useful to your question.

I'm new to VMWare and barely installed ESXi 6.0 created a host but now I can not install Windows 2012 r2. Cannot access the ISO. Do I need the plugin integration customer or what. I called tech support and they would not help because I am on trial. Any help would be great. Thank you

You select the ISO in the settings of the virtual machine and select 'connect at Power On "? Alternatively, you can connect the ISO in the current state (power on) and then press CTRL-ALT-INS to 'hot' start the virtual machine.

PS: If it still does not work, check that you have a bootable ISO image, for example not only a picture of Service Pack.

  • vSphere 6 and Exchange 2010

    Hi all

We want to improve our ESXis where are hosted Exchange 2010 VMs. We are planning to upgrade to VMware ESXi 6.0 U1a.

Do you know if this version of vSphere is supported by Microsoft? Servers OS of Exchange is Windows Server 2012 Standard.

    Thank you

    you are welocme

Yes, you are right... it is not supported YET... but take in mind that 6.0 U1 was released last month... so you have to wait a few days/weeks until they test the release.

but it is quite clear that they will also add u1 to list supported... then you can go ahead with the update... don't you worry that

  • New to VMware and considering the training & Certification

    Hello

I have worked on various projects and IT admin job for more than 14 years in Windows and NetWare environments, but have no experience with any type of virtualization.

I want to acquire sufficient experience for coherent conversation VMware and vSphere in an interview, and to pass the exam, and I think I might prefer the speed and convenience of the Live-Online course.

    Basically, I have 2 questions:

    1. for someone like me, is at - it a real advantage to take VMware vSphere: crash course, or will install, configure and manage of course give me what I'm looking for?

2 are there opinions on the benefits of class vs Live-course online?

Any opinions at all would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Chris

    Welcome to the Forums-

    1. I recommend the installation and configuration - it will give you the necessary information to develop a good base in VMware and start preparing to take and pass the exam VCP - there's a number fo son in this forum about what you should do to prepare for the exam of the secure Channel.

    2. The line is good and the same class that is provided in the class but I think the interaction with the instructor and with other students is extremely beneficial.

    Good luck

  • RV042 and exchange 2010

I bought a RV042 to take advantage of the second internet connection, that we put in place.  Port forwarding for the exchange server is currently managed by our main DSL modem/router.  After spending some time by configuring the new RV042, I tried to implement yesterday.  I changed the setting of the DSL modem/router to bridge and changed the IP address so that it does not enter into conflict with the new router.  I unplugged and plugged the cables and I went back to my workstation.  I opened a browser and the internet was not working.  I pulled out my phone and sent an email of phone to my computer and it worked.  Then I tried to send an email from the workstation to the phone.  He came back not available immediately, and then I lost the connection to exchange server.  He began asked for the password to connect and acted as if I was outside the tent to connect through all the pseudonyms known to our mail server.  I even restarted the server of mail without success.  I ended up having to remove the RV042 and reset the modem/router DSL to the old settings back to work.  Anyone can shed light on what I might have missed in RV042 settings?

Some people are using the protocol binding to bind SSL (port 443) to one of the WAN of RV042 port can work around the problem of authentication with Exchange failure.

  • New to VMware and questions.

    Hi all
IV has recently set up a server esxi and converted a 64-bit Linux on Visual disk computer.
It runs on a server poweredge 2900 with a xeon 5050 which is capable of 64-bit.
When you try to add the machine to the server, it tells the host does not support 64-bit guest...
I don't see anywhere in the BIOS where the visualization can be enabled or disabled.
Also, I managed to install a 32-bit operating system, 2003 server, on the same server esxi, so that must mean that VT is enabled, correct?
    Thank you

I do not know the DELL 2900 server, but http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pe2900/en/hom/html/syssetup.htm#wp1054756 can help you find the setting of "virtualization technology". Make sure the power cycle the server after you change this setting. A simple reboot is not enough.

VT is necessary in VMware to run 64-bit guests. 32-bit clients can run without VT

  • IAM new on vmware and am currently evaluate the new workstation 7

I tried to connect redhat4 linux as comments to my host to windows 7 and it may not, I want to create networks among themselves without the bridge. VMware is really as good as they say it's because it seems so badly at home to connect.

If you do not want to use Bridged so you can use NAT or Host-Only to create a network connection between the host and Guest and vice versa.

I suggest that you read chapters 14 (setting up a virtual network) & 15 (advanced virtual networking) in the user of the workstation manual in order to gain a better understanding of the Virtual Network Infrastructure.

Also keep in mind that the firewall on the host and the guest may need to be configured to allow connectivity between them and if necessary be temporarily disable all Firewalls, AntiVirus and security software on the host and the guest when troubleshooting problems of connectivity and re - activate in a logical manner to determine if one are causing problems of connectivity between them.

  • New on VMWare... Login and password problems

    Hi all

I inherited a few major COMPUTER disasters with a client. I'm new to VMWare and have found that several virtual servers are no longer running. We have pay to this topic. When I run the Home Page of VMWare Server it takes me to VMware Infrastructure Web Access with a login and password, but I have no idea what could be. The person who set up the system is not reachable. Is there a way to identify and fix this mess?

  • Integration of TMSXE with Service Pack 3 for Microsoft Exchange 2010

Hello, we have a TMS 14.3.2, TMSXE 3.1.3 version and Exchange 2010 SP3 with the latest rollup update RU4.

Do we still need to apply the limitation on the Exchange for Exchange 2010SP3 RU4 server policy configuration?.  Installation TMSXE document shows that it applies to Exchange 2010 SP1.

Are there specific configuration for Exchange 2010 SP3 RU4 settings?

Yes, the throttling policy applies - the reference SP1 seems to me when the limitation has been enabled on Exchange.

You can use the scheduled throttling policy.  Next version of the solution offers impersonation as an alternative, which does not require the throttling policy.

  • new to vmware - question

Hi all, I'm new to VMWare and you want to ask a silly question. My project plans to use vmware on a single physical server running windows 2003 to implement multiple instances of servers windows 2003 virtual. My question is what do we need to have different IP address and host name for each server virtual windows? Or vmware manages to solve this problem itself? If so, how does this work?

    Thank you!

    lqin1983 wrote:

guys, thanks for your reply... as you said, we need differernt IP addresses for each server, which makes it easy for us becase that means that we must go through a long process to the commission, the servers with the new ip address...

If you had multiple physical servers, you will need to go through the same exact process. How many servers you plan giving each server an IP address is a big problem? VMWare removes just your need more physical servers, what you do with the guest computers is pretty much unchanged.

  • Exchange 2010 DAG + HA VMware

    Hi all

I ve vsphere 4.1 and i´d like create an Exchange with 2 or more virtual machines.

I need know if DAG and HA are supported to enable works.

I read that it is not supported by Microsoft.

What is a recommended in this scenario?

    Thanks

As the says Paul, Microsoft has changed their position on what they are supported when running a virtualized Exchange 2010 infrastructure.  Change in favour HA is mainly a paper change on - he was technically no problem with using HA with Dag and having a node failed Dag simply restart on another ESXi host.  vMotion/DRS, however, certainly has a problem, and simply changing the support strategy does not make it work better.

The short version - as you know during a vMotion there a momentary loss of network connectivity.  A DAG using Failover Clustering, it is very intolerant to even momentary loss of network connection.  I've seen several cases where people have tried to use vMotion against a mailbox server and the vMotion caused databases for failover.

There is a time-out value of pulsation of cluster that you can set to allow the cluster to be more tolerant to the missed before it initiates a failover.  I spoke in the following blog:

    http://www.thelowercasew.com/vSphere-and-Exchange-Admins-can-live-in-harmony-Microsoft-finally-supports-HA-and-VMotion

Also, make sure you use the latest version of Exchange and follow the instructions in the VMware KB:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=1037959

I hope this helps.  If you have other specific questions do not hesitate to reach out.

  • Exchange 2010 and high availability (redundancy)

    Hello

If virtualize us Exchange 2010 on VMware and Vmotion used for high availability (redundancy). (that is, if we do not have to use Exchange clusters.)  Claims we're still two x licenses Exchange 2010?

    Thank you

Yes, you will need two exchange server license, if you have less than 5 databases in exchange, you can opt for the standard edition of Exchange. However the operating system you will be required Enterprise edition, as it is necessary for the cluster configuration.

  • Exchange 2010 (HA) on VMWare

    Hi all

Can someone please highlight the options/limitations HA to Exchange 2010 on VMWare ESX 3. 5Infrastructure. I read on DAG, but I do not think that it would be supported by Microsoft (on VMWare) the ESX servers are grouped together and using vmotion, HA and DRS and it would be helpful to know whether to use a feature of VMware/exchange to satisfy this requirement.

We believe using a 3rd party cloud product/service which consists of a web front end bespok application (described above the ' architecture that we do not control / manage underlying) and so we can only assign virtual disks to a single virtual machine so I would also like to know if I get around this without using a shared virtual machine storage...

    Your contribution is appreciated.

With a view to support Exchange can be deployed on a Cluster of ESX from VMware and be 100% taken in charge by Microsoft and VMware.  If you choose to set up in the Exchange 2010 DAG environment you can still maintain support by Microsoft and VMware by disabling the HA/DRS features for only members of the DAG.  It's strictly a requirement of support, the use of DAG in the breast in a VMware ESX cluster works very well on the technical side of things.  You mention ESX 3.5 so I'll call that in ESX 3.5 VMware HA/DRS should be disabled at the level of the cluster, ESX, ESX 4.0 update 1 changed cela to allow HA/DRS ESX cluster-wide and only requires deactivation at the virtual machine level.

Regarding storage shared; in a DAG environment only assign you storage to a single virtual machine, there is no storage shared so that shouldn't be a problem there.  However, by VMware support, that data must reside on fibre channel attached storage, no VMFS, or iSCSI.  I have included some links below that will help better understand support of Exchange on VMware solutions.
