Newbie disc question

Version number of VMWare Fusion: Version 2.0.1 (128865)

What kind of Mac you have: Mac Pro

OS X level - don't know how to determine that (I'm a newbie on Macs) - 10.5.x - I have the latest updates for the last week.

I use VMWare Fusion on a Mac again.  I've created a guest OS from MS Vista Ultimate 64 bit and it works fine.  I intend to also create a guest operating system to 64-bit Linux.  When I bought this machine, I want to be able to install the OS on a 2nd hard drive.  I couldn't see all the information on how to do this in the documentation or in the guest OS hard drive settings.

Is it possible to place the guest on a 2nd hard drive operating system?

Thank you

Beverly Pope

In the last step of the creation of a virtual machine, merge ask you where to save it. Select your external drive.

Also, consider virtual machines like the (very large) files that they are. You can move them, copy them and so on (when the Fusion is not running - never change records outside under merger!) as to normal files.

  • Newbie script question: how to change a story in a particular style

I am new to scripting and I'm getting to know the built-in script FindChangeByList. (I use InDesign CS4 for Windows.) I use the excellent script to find tapes of changes by Martin Fisher (modified by Kasyan Servetsky). It works brilliantly, but I have a question. I want to add a string of FindChangeList who take an object any selection or history and put it all in a style particular (the real name of my style is "Body2.TextIndent"). This should be the best thing to do, but as a newbie, I'm puzzled. The only thing I could come up with was to find 'any character' and replace it with the style I wanted, so something like this:

    text {"findWhat: ' ^?} "} {appliedParagraphStyle:"Body2.TextIndent", changeConditionsMode:1919250519} {includeLockedStoriesForFind:false, includeLockedLayersForFind:false, includeHiddenLayers:false, includeMasterPages:false, includeFootnotes:true, wholeWord:false, caseSensitive:false} //Transform the history in the Body2.TextIndent style

This does not work, but it's very, very slow. I guess the program must change all the characters of the style I want, that's why it takes so long. Is there a faster and more efficient way to write this? Yet once, I'm just trying to turn the story into a particular style. Obviously, this could be done in two clicks in correct InDesign, but I want to integrate this into the syntax FindChangeByList.

    Thank you!

P.S. is there a difference in the use of FindChangeByList in the Javascript version compared to the version of Visual Basic? I took the version of Visual Basic to chance and that's what I use.  (I use the script to find tapes of change to develop my strings, as I indicated above.)

Of course, this could be done in two clicks in correct InDesign, but I want to integrate this into the syntax FindChangeByList..)

Why do you want to use FindChange for this? It is horribly inefficient. Whence this requirement? Or you just want to tell you want to do in a script, not that it must be a FindChange script?

The paradigm of right in the scripts here is the same that interactively - set the appliedParagraphStyle for each of the selected paragraphs, a loop on those paragraphs. Do not do operate at the level of the character and do not use FindChange.

How to play CD - RW discs in my Toshiba laptop?

First of all, you need to install a UDF reader software, because CD - RW discs are written in UDF 1.5 format.

  • 2 years by Satellite L300 has started playing up - recovery disc question

    Hello world

I ve created the Toshiba Recovery Disc (s) and think I need to use it now. My Satellite L300-1AQtaking AGES to load when I turn on, it sometimes crashes for no apparent reason (it tells me memory is OK, so not a problem of RAM) and because of the other weird inconveniences.

Should I use the recovery disks do, you think? Is it simple? It does not give to-step instructions please? Operating system is Vista.

    Thank you very much

Yes, you must use recovery discs and make clean OS install. After 2 years of use, I think that the operating system needs to be updated.

After the own OS, you will see that laptop will work a lot better than before.
Please also optimize OS: remove all the unnecessary stuff from the system and configure the Windows startup. This will make the start much more quickly.

    Hello

I don't think anyone can tell you with certainty what recovery DVDs belongs to a specific model laptop maybe authorized service provider in your country. They should have access to the database of Toshiba and maybe they can identify it.

  • Recovery Acer Aspire V3 disc question

    Hello

Recently, I used a set of recovery disks on my Acer Aspire V3 because I had problems starting Windows. I am currently using this laptop and it's incredibly slow well only barely nothing installed on it. That, as well as other issues lead me to believe that the hard drive has failed.

My question is, if I replace the hard drive with a new hard drive, I just bought at Best Buy (same size, 1 TB), the recovery disks still work? Is that all I have to do beforehand to operate?

Just swap the drives and use your recovery media, nothing else.

  • Aspire 5742 recovery disc question

This is a long post.  I went through a lot of steps already.  I'm not an expert in technology, but I read directions well (most of the time), and my knowledge comes from working through the problems as they come.  I use a newer laptop to make different drives and disks.

I have an Acer Aspire 5742 Windows 7 hp 08. I had a few deep-rooted malware and decided to do a system restore. The system restore worked and the first thing I did was last updated from windows. There were 192 updates and it took a few hours for them to download and install. After the restart, while it was down to the 5 latest updates to install, a message appeared on the screen, indicating that updates failed, and all of the updates would return. Eight hours later nothing had changed. The screen looked exactly the same. I don't know if I did the wrong thing, but I assumed that the restoration was in an infinite loop and made a decision to perform recovery with my Acer OEM drives.

There is a system disk and the value of three with the Acer recovery disks. I don't know if all the recovery disks work exactly the same but in case they are not, I will include the information which has come to the screen. After the system disk is inserted and that windows support files, the options in this box Acer Recovery Management are-

Restore OS - OS restore to default factory default status. All the data on the C: drive will be deleted. (It was the option that I tried to use)
Restore the operating system and to keep the data of the user - only restore the operating system of your PC to the factory default. Your user account files will be transferred to C:\backup. This option does not remove the malware. (When I tried this: no user data were found on your computer)
Fully restore computer to factory settings - restore your computer back to the factory default state. All data in the hidden partition and the system partition will be restored. Before restoring, please delete all data on the hard drive (when I tried this: Please delete all files from your hard drive before you start.) This function will not work if there is no file on the hard disk.)

So by clicking on option 1, there's the box in the view of what is happening. The area becomes "restore the Destination."
The hard drive name: ST500LM000 - 1EJ162 ATA device
    Partition label: Acer
    Size 8.0 GB partition
    Copy of disk files.
Please insert the restore disc 1.
    Copy of disk files
    Insert disk 2.
    Copy of disk files
Insert disk 3 (it is 80% complete)
    Copy of disk files.

Shortly after that the disk turns on a message box appears saying "There are not enough disk space for the temporary files needed for this operation"

Press Ok. Wait a minute please. Acer boot screen then back "BOOTMGR is missing. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete.
Pressing C + A + earrings back to the boot screen Acer and return to "BOOTMGR, etc.".

The original crapped out drive and I replaced it with a hybrid 500 GB drive.  I have partitioned the hard drive for the upgrade of windows 8, which was offered when I bought the laptop.  I rarely used it, and it remained a 20 GB partition.  Think that the partition might be the problem I downloaded the portable computer Wizard mini partition my new tool and copied the files to a CD, a DVD and a flash drive.  All contained errors. Failure of the Conference on disarmament.  I tried another, he sounded like he was going to start and then returned to the screen BOOTMGR.  I pulled out a blank dvd, copied the file .iso from the score to it. The message on the screen: drive hard virtual cannot be mounted from image files or from removable media that is not formatted with the NTFS file.

I dug around and eventually find my flash drives. The flash player has a default FAT32 and I changed to NTFS (based on the above message) and formatted. I copied the file to the partition.  The message on the screen: a BONE was not found. Try disconnecting all drives that do not contain a BONE.  I made in all attempts above that I changed the boot order in the bios.

I tried another flash drive and kept the default FAT32.  It would sound like he was trying to start then:
PX - E61 Media test failure. Check the cable of
    Output of MOF broadcom PXE

What I am doing wrong?  What can I do to correct this player so that it be cleaned?

I forgot that I had an external enclosure for a hard drive, so I took out the hard drive for Acer and it subservient to my new laptop. I bought it when the original Acer hard drive became corrupt to try to look at the files. Here I am trying to understand the hard and a less complicated solution (for me) was at hand.  Of course, he had 4 partitions with only 8 GB for the Acer.  Don't know how it happened.  I am planning to wipe the disk completely and using the disks from Acer to start all over again.

Please accept my sincere thanks for taking the time to help me.  I learn something new every time I have to correct a problem and without the help of message boards I would be screwed.

  • Simple recovery disc question

When is it best to make the recovery discs before or after I recorded my laptop and why?

It is not important to you to do the recovery before or after regstering your laptop.  What is important is to save your laptop computer to activate the warranty.

I highly recommend that you create a USB key recovery instead of a set of recovery disks. All it takes is a simple scratch to make the drive to retrieve the useless value. A Flash Media Player in recovery, on the other hand, is durable and runs a lot faster that the recovery DVDs are capable of making Collections.  Be sure that you choose a flash drive that is not labeled certified for Windows 8 (or 8.1). Flashdrives of SanDisk are generally known to be incompatible with the HP recovery media creator. None of the HP Experts have had success with them, including me.

  • Newbie upgrade question

I have an Optiplex 390 and I need to upgrade the video card. I am visually disabled and need to upgrade to run special software correctly. Someone recommended the

GeForce GTX 650 Ti 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express. I'm a little nervous going into the bowels of this machine, but I noticed that it needed 400 watts. Looking at the online manual this unit is only 25 watts said... I'm missing something. I think that this card just plug.

I'm kinda a newbie in the world of the upgrade, but not computers. Any help would be just super :)

    Hi Heymate,

Your computer will support any PCI Express x 16 graphics card and the system has 265 Watt power supply (PSU). So, when buying the graphics card, you will need to upgrade the power supply on the system.

  • Disc question

    Hello!

I'm worried that I could have done something wrong...

I had to set up 3 guest vm with 20 GB size forge should be more than enough for the intended use.

Instead, I created 3 80 GB size thin provisioned the hosts, which was slightly larger than expected. Instead of a total of 60 GB, I have now used 240, which is just sitting there.

However, the actual size of the windows servers is 14FR.

How can I reduce the size of the host so I can put the san storage for use somewhere else?

If I just as it is, I'll still be able to use the extra hard drive space, or will it just sit there and be wasted for all eternity?

You can use VMWare converter to convert these machines and specify new formats of disc as part of the process of

you will be able to keep all the data / settings, etc., but the etime sam = through the wizard, enter the new size you want for all discs.

  • Newbie SQL question

I'm new to the database and have a basic question.

I have a table 'A' with the following contents:

    Description of the ID
    1 AR

    2 FS

I want to write a query that would provide IDS that match the Description "FS" and not "AR" in any other line (for the same id).

So the results would look like
    Description of the ID
    2 FS

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Recovery of CyberLink disc question

-J' installed a new 1 TB as my old 500 GB harddrive failed.

-Now, I need to go back to Windows 7 Home Premium. I installed the recovery and then discovered disks on the Cyberlink program that must be installed.

-J' downloaded Cyberlink, but it won't burn a cd. I do this on Windows Vista.

-I click on cyberlink SP... program, and it passes through. Then it says "Update", and then theres a dialog box which asks 'UPDATE COMPLETE' and gives me four options "not Yes" "" 'Cancel' 'X '.

When I click Yes, computer restarts, but not serious CD.

When I click on No/Cancel/X nothing happens.

    You are the very welcome.

What I do is download about 20 updates at the same time, so I do not overload the poor PC.

Other than the norton and office 2010 evaluation software and the games shown on the specifications of your PC product page, all necessary software and drivers for your laptop from work are available for download.

I use the free Microsoft Security Essentials program for my antispyware/antivirus program.

  • Disc question PowerEdge T300 Perc 6 / I Raid 5

I have a PowerEdge T300 with Perc 6 / I and Raid 5 with 3 hot swap 15 k 146 GB disks and 1 hot spare in the fourth slot from the backplane. Drive HARD 0 is orange flashing while HDD1 thru HDD3 are green. I have a new hard drive to install. I have to restart under the Perc 6 / I installation, disable HDD0, then turn the power off and replace it and walk back in Perc 6 / I and add the new disk and restart. Drive HARD 0 rebuild in the table or what I need to assign the new drive as the new hot spare? Are there instructions on how to replace a drive like that?

    Thank you

    Mark

Once in the controller and you can just physically pull the failed drive. After removing, then wait a moment and insert the new drive. If the virtual disk has been degraded, then it should start to rebuild on its own once the replacement is inserted. If the virtual disk has been Optimal, then physically pull the drive and insert the replacement. Then in the BIOS OF THE controller, you can configure the replacement as a hot spare.

  • Newbie design question

Try to understand how it works under the covers, so I can make better design decisions.

I understand that phonegap is basically web browser running your application on the phone. When you build your installation iphone (I've never done that), is that basically take all your web stuff (files, html, images, js, etc) and wrap them as an "application" and put them on the phone of the person (in your "app") and run the whole thing locally (via phonegap) as a web server? That means that when you load index.html, it loads a local copy (on the phone) and not a http://mywebsite/index.html version.

If this is the case, then I guess that means php calls are made via ajax or something, to my external Web server, and I guess I have to whitelist (I read that somewhere) or something.

but the main key, I guess, is that the app on the phone seems to work a browser and small database web server too?

    Not quite.

Assets (html, js, css, graphics) is stored in the app bundle and displayed in a native Webview component.

There is no local server involved.

PhoneGap is just the tool. It prepares your hybrid application signed .apk, .ipa, etc.

PhoneGap is not active at run time! There is just a piece of javascript, which is included in your assets, to act as a bridge between your local native javascript and plugins.

Scripts on the server side are to perform on a remote server on communication ajax (or via a socket). You design your app server MVC - ish.

  • Newbie Backup question

    Hello

I recently installed VMware player and installed XP Professional on it. I am running Vista Home Premium.

I am pretty religious about backup. If my computer had to die, it would be good to know I can import/restore a file off my backup to allow me to continue using my virtual copy of XP.

So someone please can advise what files I need backup and those that I need to restore to another machine.

    Thanks in advance.

    Adrian

In fact, it's the vmx file, but yes, it's as simple as that.
