Newbie on color/contrast question

Hello

I placed ads in a newspaper black and white (gray scale). The ads previously digitized images and I got their quality high resolution. JPG. I don't have access to the original files. When they printed, some of the ads were not too bright that I wanted. I have them open in Photoshop and discovered that blacks are not 100% black. Some were 90%, some as low as 40%. They looked fine on my screen and the laser printer proofs, but on paper, they were not quite dark. I want to increase to 100% blacks. I'm a Photoshop newbie, so the only solution I can find is to open each of these ads and use the Curves tool to all blacks pull up to 100% while leaving the white part of the spectrum only. I don't know I'm using the Curves tool correctly. Do not argue the point, but here are a few screenshots of before and after.

BEFORE:

Before.jpg

AFTER:

After.jpg

If you look closely, you can see the curves. Bassically I pulled to the top of the curve to 100% black and just left the point furthest to the left, where it is (which I assume is the white part of the spectrum).

Is this the best approach to do what I want to do?

Thank you.

Is this the best approach to do what I want to do?

No, you will find that this severe blow causes the Posterization and blocking of the pixel. Turn on your histogram, curves and control where the black values start - you move the sliders at the BOTTOM in the curves. Some off-tail in grey (this is a scan) is normal.

Yes black should be 100% black and white should be blown, but not to the point that his destroy the purity of the form of the letter and fill density in a way not only to natural.

  • Color/contrast differences b/t LR and PS

I notice differences of major color/contrast when viewing my photos in Lightroom and Photoshop (using LR open option PS).

Namely, when the image is open in LR, it's much more saturated and contrast in photoshop. A major difference. Maybe this isn't the best way to show it, but here are a few shots of cell phone screen, which illustrate what I see with some degree of accuracy, sitting here, the difference is even more striking than in the photos.

Photoshop - less contrast and saturation

Lightroom - more contrast and saturation

If I export the image at the same time, the result comes out the same and looks more like the version of Lightroom (more contrast/saturation). Curiously, if I open it in Nik collection it opens more like the version of Photoshop (less contrast/saturation).

This sort of coming out of the blue. I did not bring any changes to color space or in a program, but I'm guessing that it is the whole because that confuses the heck out of me, no matter how many articles I read on this subject. My monitor is calibrated with a ColorMunki.

Here are some of my Photoshop color settings.  Don't know if it has changed somehow, I don't remember the configuration in this, but I was not here (of less voluntarily) that I can remember.

As part of your troubleshooting you re - calibrate your screen? Windows sometimes updates driver are installed automatically pleasant not with the monitor profile. Develop the shadows being plugged is fairly typical of a monitor profile problem.

  • Color profile question/problem.

These two products of the same file were taken on D300s my spouse and are good examples of a profile problem, that I can't solve.  It's the same problem, I also have experience on the Nikon D700 and D3.  What follows has been exported with the profile "caméra Standard" and notice the reflection of the Yellow Sun on the door panels:

    marciasd300sstandard.jpg

The following has been exported with a profile of lightroom generated xrite. Notice the overall contrast better, but also horrible unnatural yellow on the same door:

    marciasd300sxrite.jpg

This difference causes all kinds of distortion in natural hair that contains any red-orange.  I use these doors because they are a striking example.  Any attempt to correct through the World Bank generally will result in too much blue elsewhere.  Also, I've created several test profiles in several light conditions (manually and LR), and they all cause this problem in the three cameras.  This isn't a question of a unicameral bad or wrong created the profile.

I have two questions: this example shows well enough to see what I mean?   If so, is - anyone can speculate as to the problem or the solution?  Even conjecture would be appreciated since I'm out of my country and not an expert in this kind of thing.   Thank you!

George, this is an extreme lighting situation that allows to create strange colors that are difficult to "rectify". I put that word in quotes because the question is: what were the colors in lookin at the scene with your eyes. Chances are that the strange colors were there, but not entirely seen, because our brain has a built-in mechanism to change the colors of "what they should be."

So, in other words, I think that you cannot be too critical of a picture taken in these extreme lighting situations.

I have also seen pictures taken in such circumstances are very difficult to "color setting". You showed us the example of a photo 'red '. But the same is true when you take a photo in extremely "blue" light (a very cloudy and rainy day in shadow).

I fould that in such situations I've either must live with colors that are not 'right' or I have to resort to adjustmenst of local color in PS.

  • "Change in Photoshop CC" contrast question

Any time that I chose to edit a photo in Photoshop CC of my Lightroom CC library, the photo gets drastic boost in contrast when it opens in PS.  Normally, I edit in PS before I have make any adjustments in LR, and I apply any presets during import.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  Thanks in advance!

Photoshop and Lightroom must always show exactly the same. If they are not, something that happens in the conversion of source of each application profile and the profile of your monitor.

The main suspect is still the monitor profile. Do you use a calibrator? If you do, make sure that it has not defined to perform version 4 and/or LUT (table) - the basis of profiles. The two they are known to cause problems. V2 and the matrix are security options.

If you are using a calibrator you have a defective manufacturer monitor profile eventually delivered via Windows Update.

You can test both by replacing your monitor with sRGB profile. Assuming that Windows, here's how:

Revive the two apps when done so they can load the new profile at startup (but no restart required).

If it's not her, the problem could be the conversion itself, which by default is set to run by the GPU in both applications. Uncheck the 'Use graphics processor' in both. This shifts to the CPU display color management, which is more reliable.

  • 25 color change question in Internet Explorer theme

I changed the 4_2.css to theme 25 so that the header is # 671 17 color and the navigation bar is color #333333 to match our color scheme of institutions. This makes perfectly in Firefox and Chrome, but IE 9 shows this under the standard blue colors. I narrowed down it to what follows in the definition of the page header template:

  • import into Lightroom 5 is automatic, color/contrast change?

Was hoping you could shed some light on something for me.  After you import Lightroom 5 by clicking on an image for 1-2 seconds it looks as it did when I shot (nice contrast, nice colors etc.). After 1 or 2 seconds to bland seams of color and contrast to change so I do use lightroom to bring what she looked like, why is this?

It is normal for some GROSS photos imported into Lightroom. Initially, Lightroom displays the preview JPG embedded in the RAW file. then after he has a chance to make the photo, it shows you the RAW format, essentially non-edited. There is no way to disable this option. You can configure a develop preset that is applied to the import which will automatically the photo look more to your taste.

  • Change in color/contrast between 4.1 LR and Photoshop CS6

When I export an image in LR 4.1 for editing in PS CS6, I noticed a distinct loss of contrast and saturation. Overall, the image seems more dull and flat. My work in both applications space is ProPhoto RGB. I use a custom profile generated by a hardware standard.

The screenshot below is of the same image in both programs.

    profile issue.jpg

And here's my PS color settings:

    color settings.jpg

FWIW, the image generated by Lightroom is made identical by preview.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

Stay with color management Apple has eliminated the offsets of colors ranging from 4.1 to Photoshop CS6 LR. I'm curious as to why this is the case. It might have something to do with Photoshop now its own set of ICC profiles? I'm marking THIS resolved, but if anyone knows why this is happening, I would be interested to learn more.

  • Fast color editing question

Hi all! I have a picture of a black bag. I need to change the black to purple, I forgot how to do this! Y at - it a mandate to do this so that I can properly search instructions?

Use the channel mixer, in detail. It's a difficult question, because your black handbag values can vary greatly according to the original. You must also have specific amounts of yellow and black to stay, to add shape (Black) and depth (Yellow).

These values for your outings will get in the Charles.

    Output channel mix channel

    Cyan = 100 c 0 m 33y 33 k (taps Y & K retail and this puts in C)

    Magenta = 0c 100 m 33y 33 k (taps Y & K retail and this highlights M)

    Yellow = 0c 0 m 33y 0 k (decreased Y more saturated, increase for more deep purple closest black)

Black = 0c 0 m 0y 55 k (leave some for the shape, opened upward in order to get a saturated color)

  • Newbie on conditional text question

    Hello:

I'm happy to have my first opportunity to use conditional text, but I have some questions before you begin to implement. I read the online help and reviewed my old copy of Classroom in a Book , and I feel good. With the help of a test file, I created my conditional tags, applied and experimented with show/hide tags.

My question is about the final look of the tagged text: it remains in that color or it revert to automatic (black) color. In other words, I have tagged my magenta conditional text. When I show conditional text, it's magenta. What should I do so that when I print to PDF, the tagged text is black instead?

I'm sure it's something simple, but I can't seem to find the answer myself. As a junior writer, I get so much information just by reading all the questions and answers on this forum.

I am currently using v8.0p277 on Windows XP.

    Thank you!

    Kimberly

    Kimberly,

You are right. It's simple. In the dialog where you define what to show and what to hide, there is a box to check something like show condition indicators. When you select this, the indicators (in other words, the colors and less or overlining) show. Turn it off, and they do not. The text displays and prints as if no conditions had been applied.
