  I'm also using Mac 10.5.8 with 7 FF.
  I had the same problem, incredibly annoying, as you describe.

  I just follow the advice of cor - el - and it certainly works.

  I had 1 bookmark name very long on my list of menu "Menu bookmarks"
  (I have here about 80 Favorites + 6 folders with hundreds of bookmarks inside)
  I've shortened - problem is now gone.

  You don't need to shorten all bookmarks in folders.
  Only the links in the main menu

  You can use cut and paste to move them to another folder of bookmarks as a folder of bookmarks toolbar or bookmarks Menu folder main if they are currently in a Google Chrome form or a similar folder.

  You can usually find favorites IE imported into a folder ("Internet Explorer") at the bottom of the file Menu Bookmarks (bookmarks > show all bookmarks).

  If you cannot find them in the folder "From Internet Explorer" then try this:

  • Export Favorites in Internet Explorer to a file (bookmarks.html) HTML: file > import and export
  • Import the HTML file in Firefox: bookmarks > show all bookmarks > import and backup > import HTML: from a file
