No backups to my Time Machine...

I changed provider from BT to Virgin Media internet services since July 5 and since then my Time Machine did not have all the backups as it usually does in a reasonable time.

I tried to change the USB ports on the capsule in order to get this to work but my MacBook Pro (early 2011 edition) comes up with information that he cannot find the Time Machine on the network.

I'm at my wits end that l have tried everything in the book without success.

Can someone please give me some advice in order to solve the problem?

I changed the internet provider from BT to Virgin Media since July 5

Could you please provide the number of brand and model of the modem, modem/router or gateway device that you are using at the moment?

l have tried everything in the book with no success

We don't know exactly what is "in the book" and we do not want to waste your time by asking that do you things that you already have, so with that in mind, could you please provide a short summary or a list of things "in the book" you already tried?

While that hurry to catch a flight, I accidentally disconnected my external hard drive (which I use for time machine backups) before ejecting.  Now the House, the time machine backup does not recognize my external hard drive.  I went into disk utility to try to repair the disk.  Here's what he said:

I could really use some help as to how I should proceed.  Any advice?

I think you need to clear this backup disk, and while you are this and do a full backup (which takes all afternoon to all night) you will be working without a net. If you do in idle time, and after checking your boot disk, the risk of catastrophic failure while the backup is low. Start now and in the future, you will have a backup.

If you have a different backup disk, add it and Time Machine will create a new independent backup on it, and then Time Machine alternate disks automatically.

  • FCPX backup copy / pasted Time Machine drive does contain any of my changes.

So I had to reformat my computer, but before I did I made that Time Machine backup of my computer. When you reinstall the operating system, I chose NOT to re - install Time Machine backup. Instead I started clean and then just hung out and let down my FCPX library file of the external drive for Time Machine on the newly formatted Mac desktop. When I open the library of 500 GB, none of my edits exist, even if I had about 40 hours of changes in the project. I'm sure that the backup is somewhere, but I can't find it. Any tips?

Backups must be in a file in ~ / movies. This is the default location.

Have you ever used the clip open depending on the timeline? Check each of your clips and see if they are approximately the same length as your project.

  • How to force a backup complete in Time Machine?

How can I force a new full backup in time machine? My iMac has Time Machine installed and used for 2 years. He is 2 years old and more incremental backups but I'm about to upgrade to OS X 10.8.5 OS X 10.11.5 and instructions say back up prior to installation.

Should I force a new full backup?

Completely erase your backup by using disk utility disk (for a Time Capsule use Airport utility.) Time Machine will automatically start a new backup.

  • Time Machine - an exclusion different backup for the backup drives different time machine

I hope someone can help me.

For these past years, I used 2 Time Machine backups to keep all safe. I have 1 backup x who lives at home and is 3 times the size of my disk. I also have a second drive of laptop that I travel with, which is partitioned to give a little time machine backup, more than 1.5 TB of "overflow storage (for movies, video files, etc).

Recently however, I realized that my "storage of listening" actually contains a large amount of data I wouldn't lose (especially the photos of my children because they were born), so now I want to save this drive as well.

If my ideal situation is to have a huge drive I leave at home. This contains backups of the computer AND 'excess of storage' backup. It's pretty simple to implement.

But can someone tell me if my trip backup, will try also to the other partition of the backup drive? And if so, is there anyway to give different time machine backups different exclusions.

Hope that makes sense and hope that someone can help me.

    Thank you
    John

You will need to manually change the exclusions when you going on a trip. There isn't a way to change automatically.

  • has got some software malicious hijacking web addresses etc had to format, now my mac says that there is no backup on my time machine drive! full to half, ideas, please

I've recently been infected with some form of malware, hijacking of web addresses, for take me ads tried etc sites, time machine everything I could to get rid of him, but in the end

has had to wipe the hard drive and do a fresh install of El Capitan 10.11.4 I thought at least I could restore from time machine all my photos etc.

but apparently the time machine says there is no backup on the external drive time machine, even if I always have backups and the drive is at least half full, time machine made new backups on the same drive that are available, but they obviously have no lost files!

    Suggestions please

Time Machine, please press the shift-command-C key combination. The windshield will show the mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and search for files to restore.

  • How can I remove multiple backups of my Time Machine drive

My time machine drive has reached the point where you have to delete an old backup before it completes a new backup.  Is it possible to delete several backups (e.g. all 2014 and 2015 ups 25%) since the Time Machine disk at the same time?  I know how to delete a backup but want to delete several at once.

By removing the old back ups, remove the first one made or that it has the basic material on which TM all backups are built?

    MacBook Pro 2011

    El Capitan

    16 G RAM

    1 TB SSD drive.

Time Machine drive is 2 TB.

    Thank you

I came across exactly the same problem earlier this year. The best answer I found was here: thegreyblog.blogspot.com/2014/03/shrink-your-time-machine-backups-and.html in short, Time Machine, always create a full backup, not an incremental backup. So, no, you don't cause damage by removing one. I did it without adverse consequences. Second, use the tmutil command to delete old backups. sudo tumtil gives you the full list. I wrote a bash command line script, as the author points out. I deleted everything I had since last year, from the first backup performed in October, with:

    $ sudo tmutil listbackups

    Password:

    / Volumes/Seagate backup more Drive/Backups.backupdb/mkauffmanmbp/2016-01-01-003303

    / Volumes/Seagate backup more Drive/Backups.backupdb/mkauffmanmbp/2016-01-02-005714

There was a lot more lines, what we are after here is the location to be used in the next line. In my case it has/Volumes/Seagate Backup more Drive/Backups.backupdb/mkauffmanmbp/ you need do the same thing, use it-before all the spaces in the path as shown below. Below, I've used 2015-1 * because the mine began in October 2015. I have therefore of 2015-10, 11 and 12. If you want to get rid of all 2015 you can use 2015-*. If you want to get rid of everything before October, you can use 2015-0 * which would remove 01,02,03,... 09 to 2015.

    $ sudo tmutil disable local

    (Here a line.)

    $ for i in/Volumes/Seagate\ Plus\ Backup\ Drive/Backups.backupdb/mkauffmanmbp/2015-1*; tmutil delete "$i"; fact

    $ sudo tmutil activate local

    I hope this helps!

    Happy new year!

    Hello

I'll put in my computer at the store to have the battery changed and to back up my computer. Only got 1 external hard drive and 80% busy, I can't really destroy the entire disk to back up my Mac with Time Machine. I also fear that I manually back up aka. copy and paste all the files, things like iTunes or Photo Booth will not read data from the library when 'restored' aka. copy and paste again and so I have to start over. What should I do?

Since I've upgraded to Mac OS Sierra, cannot use my local backup USB. Time Machine is stuck with the message "preparing backup" - more than 12 hours - for network devices, an Apple FileVault and another NAS device. Works very well with the local USB drive.

Something funny underway with network devices such that she works for the drives the.

Hope Apple take note and fix.

I have the same problem. I found this,

macOS, problems of the Sierra: Time Machine backup Mac

Time Machine problems prevented the Mac owners of their devices to backup since the upgrade to Mac OS Sierra, and the problem is widespread enough that Apple has published a guide on what to do if you can't back up:

    Discount for the iMac SMC

    1. turn off the device

    2. unplug the power cord from the monitor

    3. wait 60 seconds

    4 reconnect the power cord

    5. DON'T TURN ON DEVICE

    Reset the PRAM

    1. the computer must always be switched off.

    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: command, Option, P, and r. you need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

    3. press and release the power button to turn on the computer.

    4. press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You have to press these keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold the keys down until the computer is restarted, and you hear the tone of starting for the 3rd time.

    5. release the keys.

You can then try to save again. If this does not work, try to disable indexing on the drive you want to back up.

but I'm not sure it's the same question. I'll try it and report.

  • Time Machine backup fails

We have a time Machine that is inadmissible for automatic backups. I use a MacBook Pro (2012, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB SATA drive) with OS X El Capitan v. 10.11.5. The backup of a now-dead Mac is also on the Time Capsule.

I get a: "/ Volumes/data/users of MacBook Pro.sparsebundle ' could not be found (error (null)). "error saving is attempted.

If I look at my computer in the Finder, I can see the backup drive and access it as a "Shared" disc (open the folder Data, look at content, etc.).

So far, I tried to remove the Time Capsule disk, add it again and try to save again according to a previous thread on this site. Now, the only difference is that I get a message that he "expects full first backup", and in Time Machine preferences, it records all the previous backups. She cannot finish the backup, when she goes to the backup with the same error message as described above.

I'm confused that I can connect to the reader through the Finder, but it will not save.

Thank you very much for any help/advice on fixing this!

Suggest that you first run an audit of your backups... to check that they are not corrupt. To do this...

Press and hold the option on your Mac key while you click on the "clock" icon Time machine at the top of the screen

    Then, click check backups

The process can take from 10 to 60 minutes or more depending on the amount of data on the Time Capsule disk. This will inform you when the process is complete.

  • How to recover or re - use a backup Time Machine disconnected?

I had a hard drive will... "Brown" (overcooked SSD, don't know how it happened; "I think it's just a bad disk). Unfortunately, my Time Capsule (backup drive - this is not really a TC of Apple, if it matters) is also very picky. Well, I had a new SSD and cloned the old on SSD so I'm back in business on this effect, but in the process, I unplugged my wayward backup disk in Time Machine (as in, I accidentally said the temperamental player is NOT the source of archive TM). Is it possible to "bless" the backup of this wayward drive to retrieve archive it? I have access to all the files, and I recognize that I really need to get a new, reliable, drive; but in the meantime, is it possible to make the TM to accept the folder Backups.backupdb active as long as the backup plan "current", rather than simply to start with a new in this space?

BTW, I use OS X 10.11.5. I followed the instructions to Time Machine: how to transfer backups from a current backup disk to a new backup drive - Apple Support, but am concerned about the fact that it is trying to create a new backup rather than press archives, I already. I probably missed in all care, is there a way to fix it?

The answer might involve several steps.

but I am concerned that it is trying to create a new backup rather than press archives

It's still the right to go forward... Once you change the configuration of Time Machine... It will say that it will start a new backup, except if it finds an existing valid backup when it starts. If you have no other choice to the allow him to proceed... If you find it has created a new sparsebundle and started on... cancel the backup, and then try to inherit the old backup.

  • Wireless shared time Machine backup with Airport Express?

    Hi all

I looked around lately for a solution to this issue and who struggle to get by.

I'm a musician, and at home, I have an iMac that I work on. Everything is there, basically. I have a Time Machine backup to an external drive.

I also have my old MacBook that I use to play concerts. I have what I need for it there: especially Max/MSP patches, odd live recording and a few samples. I don't have a backup of it right now. Max patches are the only files not on my iMac.

So far, all the files I need for two computers, I have sync with DropBox and OneDrive. I'm getting a little tired of copy things more, re-upload, forgetting where something is and having things scattered everywhere. Ideally I'd like a shared folder of a certain type that is always up-to-date on both computers. This folder will contain Max patches, live recordings and the weird thing I do away from home.

I would also be able to save more flexible:

    • the iMac backup
    • Backup of MacBook Pro
    • Shared folder backup

I've been looking around a bit and I'm not sure how best to do so. A kind of home server would be an option? I have not used one drop/airport/Time Capsule of Apple stuff before, so I'm not sure how they differ from each other.

I like Time Machine, because I can't think to save things. If I could have three backups separated like the ones I mentioned (for the security and because my brain can deal with it better if it is presented that way), that upward with Time Machine or something similar, to some central place automatically.

I looked at the airport in Time Capsule and it looks great, but I can't afford it right now. I also saw contradictory information on AirPort Express can be plugged into an external drive for backup, so if Time Machine can be used with wireless at all.

I hope that what I am asking is logical. I would like the simplest solution to back up two computers and have a shared location for the common files needed on both.

    Thank you!

    Phil.

An option here would be to get a device connected to the network (SIN). This unit can store all the required files and be accessible to one of your computers on your home network. A number of these devices is also available remotely, when necessary. Here is an example.

I would also be able to save more flexible:

    • the iMac backup
    • Backup of MacBook Pro
    • Shared folder backup

To the extent not "have to think about backup things', Time Machine (TM) would be a solution that is easily available to you now. It would create separate for each Mac backups. In addition to using an external hard drive as you do now, other TM backup destinations could be:

    • A time Capsule
    • A 802.11ac AirPort Extreme with a connected USB hard drive. In this configuration, Apple calls the drive and the drive from the airport.
    • A NAS

In the last item in the list, you see that a NAS could offer solutions for each of your goals. However, if you are on a tight budget, likely the most expensive company to undertake, as the physical drive of NAS enclosure can run around $400-600 only, without any installed readers. This is where the time Capsule can work out cheaper for you.
