No icon network & no updates with errors

When I try it it alls disapires just and nothing happens?

(Windowx XP Pro 32-bit) (OEM Windows XP pro sp3 cd) computing personalized, I myself built about 6 years ago.

Was installing IE8 & all other updates 09/01/2011.

I've had Bitdefender total security 2010 & uninstalled upgrade to version 2011. While I had it I thought that I would do all the updates before I reinstalled it, which includded the IE8 & around 11 or 12 other updates. Day & IE8 updates has not and when I rebooted to try again I couldn't on the internet at all. I have noticed the icon in the network, (network connections icon) folder. I used my laptop I looked on microsofts site troubleshooting for the icon missing and all running ok except DCOM security check. Now I can get on internet but very limited and still no icon and no install or uninstall. He tells me the windows setup program is damaged or was not correct. my pc is very slow and buggy. I got a list of errors in the events I'll also post below. I just format and reload, but I have a lot of very important work here. I'm trying to fix it before I go buy another HARD drive and starting over.  Here is the KB894543 of KB825826 & help section # s I've tried so far. I also started on the cd of win and did a chkdsk /r and still did not help.   I also get this a lot: Win32: access denied... System Restore work? If so, then use a created point restoration before the attempted update 09/01/2011.
The restore points created by Windows Update will be called Software Distribution 3.0.
If there are restore points, use the one created just before the restore point of Software Distribution 1/9.

If the system restore does not work or there is no restore point created before the preceding, since you have the XP CD, you can try a repair Installation.
But, access denied errors, caused by inadequate security settings, can prevent the repair.
We can try to reset the security settings, but the paths showing the log event are strange, to say the least-

I have 64-bit Windows 8 and all these problems started when I tried to install the 8.1 update.  Whenever I try to go to the store to update to 8.1 I get the error message saying "we were unable to connect to the store. This could have happened due to a server problem or network connection has expired.  Please wait a few minutes and try again. "So I looked at this topic and you have tried all the tips of help from Microsoft, convenience stores, store transparent cache, etc. etc. etc. etc.. I can not connect to the store at all. Now I can't change users to a Microsoft account because it tells me that when I try that "we could not connect to the Microsoft services right now.  If this problem persists, look for 'referee' on the start screen. "I also performed this task without success.  Then I have a Windows update KB2862973 that fails to install and gives the error code 80073712.  I looked for solutions to this problem, and those who have tried unsuccessfully.  I really need someone to tell me how to fix all these issues, because I believe they should be linked.  It is a desktop pc Dell that is connected to the internet without any problem and is only about 1 year. I am tech savy, but need HELP!

How do you explain the update of security for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2964358) 01/05/2014

Well, of course there is always an exception to a rule, especially when MS is concerned. ;+>

KB2964358 (MS14-021) was an out-of-band update [i.e., not released on Patch Tuesday] who wore a vulnerability type 'Zero Day' particularly bad first recognized in Security Advisory 2963983 a few weeks earlier. Microsoft has decided to make a one-time exception for WinXP because of the seriousness of the vulnerability:

... We have taken the decision to publish an update of safety for users of Windows XP. Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, and we continue to encourage customers to migrate to a modern operating system...
