• Failure of critical process after the December 13 update

  After that my Windows XP Media Center computer has installed the automatic updates of Microsoft this past Tuesday, December 13, 2011, I started to receive the critical process failure message Code #3.  I was able to do a system restore before the update but it automatically reinstalled the update and now I am not able to go back to one of the stored point of update and I can't access the registered and put programs in place of future records in Media Center

  I had initially followed the steps but couldn't reinstall Rollup 2 as it kept not install. I seemed to be in Hotfix KB891593.   I was able to locate a thread on some other Windows message board which has led me to open the MCSetup log to see what was not. The log seems to indicate that the inability to install had something to do with Windows Media Player 10. I use Windows Media Player 11 but I found a fix for Windows Media Player 10 in the programs/updates to update installed in the Panel.  I uninstalled this patch and was then able to reinstall the Update Rollup 2, which fixed the problem of Media Center.  Thanks for the reply.

• *.psd file icons displayed does not correctly after the CC 2014 update

  I just installed the new version of 2014 of some applications like Photoshop, Illustrator Adobe, InDesign and so on.

  The only problem was caused by Photoshop.

  First of all, all my default manager lost *.psd files, they were empty and no software was set to open.

  And then when I chose 2014 CC Photoshop as Manager default *.psd THIS happened:

  as you can see the icon of the illustrator file is normal, but the *.psd file looks like Photoshop.exe icon and not the *.psd file icon.

  any ideas how to fix? (already tried to empty the cache icon)

  I had this problem since CC came out last year and I came across a solution yesterday (finally!)

  This implies external Download program 3rd party, but now I have the correct icons, so I'm pretty happy.

  Here's what I did, if it helps:

  (1) download Default Programs editor this link here.

  2) once you have extracted the .zip file open the .exe and we go.

  (3) this is the first screen, you get...

  

  4) click on the first item "File Type settings" and you get this:

  

  5) click on 'icon '.

  (6) for this example I'll change a file, InDesign icon as I already fixed the Photoshop those. An excerpt from the next screen with the white ghost icon InDesign and yes it works if you have the icon default .exe showing instead of a blank white icon.

  

  7) type in the search box the file extension, you need. In this case because I'm changing the InDesign file I want it to be .indd but you can use for Photoshop .psd or .ai to Illustrator etc etc.

  

  (8) now, the program will ask what icon you want. What you need to do is click Browse and browse to the location of the default for the program .exe you change who will be in the folder Program Files. In this case my location is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC 2014\InDesign.exe

  Once you open that default Programs editor will show the full icon set for this program, as you can see below.

  

  (9) simply select the one you want and click OK. Click the arrow next to the Save icon, and then choose Save in the registry and then BINGO!

  My knowledge of codecs and compression is limited, but I had a good "Preset" before the update that now seems to have changed (although I've still been made h.264/full audio quality/no so I do not understand how the size of the file can change so drastically).

  After that effects CC 2014 can't stand out of many delivery, such as Mpeg4 and H264 codecs, through the render queue.

  You can generate much more formats and in higher quality, using Adobe Media Encoder.  You can send that AE reports directly to the SOUL of After Effects.  You can import AE projects directly into the SOUL.  And you can also make high quality and/or EI lossless formats make the queue of waiting and then re - encode of the SOUL.

  The standard location for your preset animations is user/Documents/Adobe/After Effects (version here) / User Presets/User Preset Library.

  

  I did my library of preset user an alias on my account dropbox so any presets that I create is instantly available on any machine I'm getting. I can even access my presets when I freelance work on another system by simply accessing the dropbox.

  So, I do create After Effects compositions really intensive (usually from 10 to 20 layers by composition) and to make use of almost all the effects, there (as the displacement of pixels, motion blur, etc.) for many of my compositions.  32GB has worked pretty well, but I recently had a problem where the computer recognizes only 8 GB of RAM; in view of this, I noticed the huge difference in performance after effects CC 2014 between 8 and 32 GB (8GB off multiprocessing, for example).  This makes me wonder... saw how intense my compositions are, 64 GB would create a noticeable difference?  I have the ability to be upgraded to 64 GB right now (optionally) for free by "scheming and business."  What types of performance gains I could expect from 32 GB to 64 GB DDR4 DDR4?

  Premiere Pro (this forum) isn't really helped a lot when the RAM is updated past 32 GB, but After Effects uses RAM for previews and may even beg for more than 64 GB on systems either.
