No refreshes not reloaded Windows XP
Hard drive failure resulted in a reload of Windows XP. Now, it will not update (service packs) & can't do things because it is not updated. What should do?
Hello
1. what exactly happens when you try to run Windows Update?
2. you receive an error message when running Windows Update?
3. the problem occurs with all the updates?
Follow these methods.
Method 1:
Cannot install Windows updates
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/555461
Solve common installation issues in Windows Update, Microsoft Update and Windows Server Update Services
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/906602
Method 2: Temporarily disable the security software.
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
Method 3: Put the computer in a clean boot state by following the steps mentioned in the link to see if there is a software conflict, as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts
Step 1:
How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353
Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the section How to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state of the link to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.
After the clean boot used to resolve the problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.
(a) click Start, run.
(b) type msconfigand click OK.
(c) the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.
(d) click the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.
(e) when you are prompted, click restart to restart the computer.
Step 2:
You can also manually install updates (KB number) by downloading from the Microsoft Download Center.

Because the operating system has been reinstalled you thought to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag (DO NOT SHOW the SERVICE tag here or your post will be deleted, as it contains your personal information) and install these drivers in this order.
Tip then download the drivers, make a folder for each pilot and name it with the device belongs with to make it easier to install in the proper order.

How can I remove "set up files" and completely reload windows xp?
How can I remove "set up files" and completely reload windows xp? They were installed when I tried to reload xp before and there is always a sp1 on the pc version now.
This CD should work and it should be bootable. It seems that if you always boot from the hard drive and then you look at the content of the CD-ROM in Windows Explorer.
If the BIOS is set to boot from the CD, you should not get a menu asking which device to boot from. At most, you will get something like "Press any key to boot from the CD-ROM."
You have an another bootable CD that you know works or do you have another computer you can try this CD to see if it works correctly?

First, you must decide whether to buy Windows 7 as an upgrade CD or a full commercial license holder. A full retail version costs more than a version upgrade. However, if you buy Windows 7 with full commercial license, you will avoid potential problems, as there is certainly no need to re - install Win XP.
A clean install is always preferable to an upgrade, and in all cases, it is not possible to upgrade directly from Windows XP to Windows 7. Even if you use a CD 'upgrade', you will need to perform a "Custom" or new installation of Windows 7. A custom installation replaces not only Windows XP. It also replaces everything on the hard drive.
In the past, you can use a CD to upgrade - to perform a new installation of a newer operating system. For example, if you inserted a CD with version upgrade of Windows XP, the process could find a precedent (and real installation of Windows 98). If this search detected Windows 98, the CD would be upgrading Windows 98 to Windows XP.
If the search has not detected a previous installation of Windows 98 (on a new hard drive or recently formatted), it could prompt the user to insert his old CD of Windows 98. After checking the validity of the Windows 98 CD, the CD 'upgrade' would continue the installation of Windows XP - as a new installation.
According to the Microsoft website, all editions of Windows XP are eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7 - so if you use Win XP on your PC, Microsoft recommends that you buy a package labeled "Upgrade". However, I don't know if the previous procedure will allow you to perform a new installation of Windows 7 on a new hard drive. If this isn't the case, you might need to reinstall and validate Windows XP first, simply to confirm your eligibility for the upgrade version.

I need to reload windows Vista, but have lost the CD that I bought with the computer I have the product key is - anyone know what I need to do
short of buying a new Vista Home edition.Hello
There are several methods to reinstall Vista.
There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.
You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.
They should do this for a small fee.
To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:
You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:
How to change the Boot order in BIOS:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm
"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246
And see if there is a recovery on the hard drive to reinstall Partition Vista on how you purchased your computer.
The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)
Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.
Ask them to the proper key sequence.
And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.
Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.
If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.
Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.
If this happens, you may need to try this instead:
You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.
Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.
And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs
Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:
"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '
http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html
And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.
And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

problem reinstalling windows Vista operating system.
I'm trying to reinstall the windows Vista operating system. When I restart and press F8 on my dell Inspiron will in the Advanced Boot Options. I support then to fix my computer, but instead of reloading Windows Vista my computer turn on normally. How can I solve this problem. Thanks in advance for your support. Valerie SGWhy you want to reinstall your PC? It could be that you don't need to reinstall Windows, and solutions you could solve, which is recommended.
However, if you want to reinstall your Windows, it's NOT F8, F8 key belongs to Windows and he'll fix the problems. To reinstall Windows, you must use differently for Dell steps:
And for more details, you could visit the Dell Web site and search for your model and find the method to do this, or contact technical support:

I need a new hard drive. How can I reload windows?

Hello SNQQPYSALS,
You have a few choices:
1. contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a set of recovery DVDs.
They do it for a small fee.
2 borrow a Microsoft Vista DVD from a friend, etc. (NOT a recovery DVDs) Microsoft DVD will contain all versions of Vista.
This is your product key that determines which version is installed.
Just make sure you take the correct 32-bit or 64-bit DVD in Vista 'bit' come on 2 different DVDs.
3. IF your hard drive is still working, make a game of the recovery before it completely Partition recovery DVDs fails.
The manufacturer will tell you how.

Was not aware there is a problem until I tried some recently audio and data CDs. Have you tried different Web sites to help you, however some of the directions come with a warning that by following certain procedures I can create other problems. The FixIt tool was not able to install the player.
Hello
Please ALL these even if you've done it before as it's often the total process that
solves the problem. You should also check with the system manufacturer as some readers do not use windows
by default the drivers and need their own, use the bottom and if no joy check on the site of the manufacturer of the system.Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.
Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.Your CD or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

The Guru has said you must have the Windows Op CD, but Toshiba does not understand that! I also tried the 0 and R and C and nothing happens but the screen pretty empty after logo Toshiba (where windows is supposed to load) and then beeps to push the pesky buttons. I also tried Ctrl alt del and just becomes it works for the same process of death after the logo screen.
