  • Windows Media Center has stopped updating the lists Guide for Windows 7

Windows 10 will go out the next Wednesday July 29, 2015. I have Windows 7 and I have technical problems with the Guide in Windows Media Center lists. This isn't updated Guide lists and I wonder if this problem is related to the upgrade of Windows 10?

I called a technician to answer Microsoft desktop and the technician fixed my computer errors. Unfortunately, he could not fix this problem. Even though I always reset and auto update of listings in the Guide, the result will prove be the same with "no data."

Windows Media Center has given me many error messages:

    Windows Media Center

"Windows Media Center has corrected a problem with your registration data and will download the Guide even once. You should review your records to make sure they are always planned properly. »

    Failed to download

"The new TV configuration data could not be downloaded. Existing data, if any, will be used as you continue by configuring the TV signal. »

    Downloadable guide is not available

"Downloadable TV Program Guide listings are not available due to previous failures of download. For more information, right-click on the Windows Media Center system tray icon and open Windows Media Center update log. Select back to try again. You may be able to get the TV show lists, if they are available. »

    Guide download error

"The Guide could not be downloaded. For more information, then Windows Media Center system tray icon right-click and open Windows Media Center update log. »

I can watch TV on the computer using Windows Media Center and manually record TV shows, but it is difficult for me to record TV shows without ads Guide on Windows Media Center.

Note to update (as of August 2, 2015):

The Electronic Program Guide (EPG) for Windows Media Center Guide ads was already programmed by zap2it until July 21. After July 21, zap2it is no longer can update the lists Guide for Windows Media Center.

July 23, Rovi Corporation's new Electronic Program Guide (EPG) for Windows Media Center Guide ads.

From 23 July, listings in Windows Media Center Guide is running back to normal for Windows 7 users.

My Guide Panel is equipped with a selector more [on the listings in the Guide] where is the expiration date. I hope that Microsoft does not support Windows 7 WMC.

Please don't waste your time trying to solve the WMC, it is the expiration of the license that is causing the problem. I know it's frustrating.

On the other hand, is - can anyone say with certainty that WMC is available on Windows 10? No charge for the upgrade to Windows 7?

The way I see it, not providing the function of key in W7 WMC guide is motivation upgrading to W10, assuming that WMC is available.

Hopefully Microsoft will give us the fix for WMC in W7.

  • Why are all my icons windows media center?

OK, so I have more than 50 programs on my computer, but something went wrong. All my programs have the icon of windows media center. So, when I click on a program, that he doesn't even go to this specific programme, it goes automatically to windows media center. It's really aggravating. So can you guys please answer. I tried to fix this problem, but its very frustrating and I am a very busy man.

... All my programs have the icon of windows media center...

I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After selecting the Windows Media Center (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in Windows Media Center as it should.

The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the browser will want to be opened by Windows Media Center and Windows Media Center icon to view the shortcut no matter what shortcut was originally intentioned to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop.

The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unAssoc for its ease of use. I used to send people on another site to download this utility, but this site has become confused with all the ads and fake download links. I put a copy on by SkyDrive own here.

Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. For the user or the Windows type world and LNK files, allowing to delete the file , rebuild a new default.

  • Error "Invalid Application" - failed to launch at the launch of Windows Media Center.

Original title: Windows Media Center Edition:

Current operating system: Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP2, latest MS Silverlight installed

Freshly installed, all updates up to SP2, whenever I have open Windows Media Center, and then select Internet TV (TV + movies) I get an error stating:

    «INVALID APPLICATION - unable to launch «»

Nothing opens and I see all the icons TV.  I then click on the OK button and the app closes back to TV + movies (TV recorded - by default).  I can click on Play DVD, no problem.  I can click on the Netflix plugin (once again no problem).  The question seems to exist ONLY when I select 'Internet TV'.  I don't have a TV Tuner card in the machine, as well as setting up is not an option.

Note: I am a COMPUTER technician for over 20 years and have researched the matter only of trying many fixes that don't work not including:

    • sfc/scannow (does report no error)
    • CHKDSK (no corruption of reports)
    • reinstalled MS silverlight
    • Installed the Netflix option
    • Parameters, make sure all the General internet settings are selected correctly
    • Disabling the firewall/AV
    • Change Windows MCE receiver opening Service of the Local Service Network Service logon

Except to call Microsoft and forking over $99 - nobody knows what is the cause?

    Additional information:

After starting Windows Media Center, and then selecting TV + movies, under the heading Internet TV a bit dimmed it says "BETA".  Not sure if this has something to do with it.  Also on my laptop which has Windows 7, the Windows Media Center interface is different and seems to work without problems.  What gives?

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

  • Why the windows media center opens all my programs?

I was working on my computer when all of a sudden, I was asked what I wanted to use to open a program. I chose 'Windows Media Center', and suddenly most of my desktop icons changed to icons in Media Center.
