  Actually, you are not generically allow access to a virtual machine, a console instead, if you allow access to a virtual machine that you want to monitor access very closely because it (other than RDP) console through the virtualization management services (ala vCenter). I would use tools such as HyTrust, Xceedium, Thycotic, etc. for monitor/audit access. Personally, I'm just saying my system administrators use RDP as it does not pass through the layers of virtualization management. If they need access CD for example, I provide other ways to access the ISOs of a common share (VCD, loop media) instead of asking someone to use vCenter.

  A poor man to get the same functionality is to create a proxy service that connects to all requests for access to the consoles and serves as additional security gateway in the virtualization management devices (ala vCenter). This way a request to go directly to the virtual console is properly logged and you can use this same proxy to make queries to Mount/unmount images, etc. By using a proxy, hytrust, Xceedium or Thycotic you can let him manage the 3000 user requests, limit the number of connections allowed at any time (which is a must), set timeouts, but especially you can delegate all through a service inside of vCenter account so that you can get the best control of your environment. Logging, these tools provide is enough to meet verification requirements.

• vCenter server 4.1 install not on Windows Server 2008 R2

  I just downloaded vCenter server 4.1 and tried to install it on my windows 2008 R2 (64-bit) server, and the installation program always gave me this error:

  My current virtual centre is 4.1.0 build 258902 running windows 2008 r2 64-bit with an oracle database. The old virtual Center runs vcenter 4.0.0 build 162856 with a ms sql database. Both are in their own workgroup. No field so related modes cannot be performed. The goal is to move away from the old vcenter hosts to the new, but about 80%, it fails with the error, "cannot acquire licenses because the source of license is not available. The License Manager has not yet been started, the wrong file license or port@host is used, or the hostname or port in the license file has been changed. Open port 27000 and 27010. Any ideas?

• ESXi 5.1 (vCenter Server). VM migration

  I learn ESXi 5.1.

  System ESXi5.1 Enterprise + VCenter Server with HA

  I have a system with 2 hosts who share external storage DAS (Shared)

  Each host has a local data store. The system therefore has: 1 Shared stored (provided by the external storage) and 2 shops (one for each host)

  Activity:

  (1) I created a virtual machine that is on the shared Stored.

  (2) turn off the virtual machine

  (3) the right - click on the virtual machine and in the menu select: migrate... >

  (4) choose the local store

  (5) Once finished, I found the following situation:

  (6) Home > inventory > hosts and Clusters

  (7) selected the VM (migrated)

  (8) the tab press < summary >. I see listed in the < storage > window: the shared storage and the local bank.

  I don't understand:

  Why the < shared > store is still listed even if the virtual machine has been migrated to < Local > store?

  (Observation: in home > inventory > warehouses of data and Clusters: according to the < storage > locar store I see the migrated VM, while if I select the < Shared store > I don't see the virtual machine).

  If you disconnect the ISO, it must disappear from view.

• The upgrade to vCenter Server 5.5 U1 beat vCO AD Plugin

  I've recently updated vCenter Server (under Windows) to 5.5 U1, and so vCO has been upgraded to the latest version as well. It seems that the AD plugin has been upgraded to 1.0.4 - 763 and now can not be configured correctly. The vCO newspapers give the following:

  We do not use LDAPS, LDAP standard, so I don't see why we would receive an exception of encryption, and the 'ConfigurationManager' null configuration object is interesting.

  Is it possible to reset the configuration of the plugin, re-establish a connection, and try again? I prefer not to reinstall this vCO, as we have done a lot of configuration.

  Uninstalling and reinstalling the 1.0.4 plugin does not seem to solve the problem. I should come back 1.0.3 or can it?

  Thank you, Christophe, who complained of being 'ConfigurationManager' being missing (according to the first message in this thread). That said...

  Rename/Delete the

  C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Orchestrator\app-server\conf\plugins\AD.xml and

  C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Orchestrator\app-server\server\vmo\conf\plugins\AD.xml

  and re - configure the plugin (1.0.3 in this case) AD, seems to have allowed the AD connection is restored. At that time, we were see errors in the vCO related to plugin configuration of the client (it seems that all the old cruft of 1.0.4 has not been completely cleaned), so I upgraded the plugin from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4.

  I can now browse through the structure of the AD in vCO as expected. A terrifying upgrade, plugin-breaking!
