The upgrade to vCenter Server 5.5 U1 beat vCO AD Plugin

Hey guys,.

I've recently updated vCenter Server (under Windows) to 5.5 U1, and so vCO has been upgraded to the latest version as well. It seems that the AD plugin has been upgraded to 1.0.4 - 763 and now can not be configured correctly. The vCO newspapers give the following:

2014-05-12 12:11:14.141 - 0400 [WorkflowExecutorPool-thread-1] ERROR {[email protected]: Configure Active Directory server: 8a6abc61-9f1e-4b75-84e3-5f7ed902af57:1d74889645f12cdf0145f133c1e20009} [MSPluginFactory] condition of credentials are corrupted.

at ch.dunes.util.PasswordEncryptor.decrypt(PasswordEncryptor.java:76)

at ch.dunes.util.EncryptHelper.newDecrypt(EncryptHelper.java:61)

Furthermore, when I try to set up an advertising server by using the plug-in, I have the following problem, showing me one of the configuration objects is null - 'ConfigurationManager '.

2014-05-12 12:11:14.251 - 0400 [WorkflowExecutorPool-thread-1] WARN {[email protected]: Configure Active Directory server: 8a6abc61-9f1e-4b75-84e3-5f7ed902af57:1d74889645f12cdf0145f133c1e20009} Script Runtime error [WorkflowItemTaskRunner] on the workflow: Server Configure Active Directory / 'Configuration' (item1) update: ReferenceError: 'ConfigurationManager' is not defined. (Workflow: Configure the Active Directory Server / update of Configuration (item1) #10)

2014-05-12 12:11:14.351 - 0400 [WorkflowExecutorPool-thread-1] ERROR {[email protected]: configures Active Directory server: 8a6abc61-9f1e-4b75-84e3-5f7ed902af57:1d74889645f12cdf0145f133c1e20009} [SCRIPTING_LOG] [Server Configure Active Directory (12/05/14 12:11:12)] ReferenceError: 'ConfigurationManager' is not defined. (Workflow: Configure the Active Directory Server / update of Configuration (item1) #10)-null

We do not use LDAPS, LDAP standard, so I don't see why we would receive an exception of encryption, and the 'ConfigurationManager' null configuration object is interesting.

Is it possible to reset the configuration of the plugin, re-establish a connection, and try again? I prefer not to reinstall this vCO, as we have done a lot of configuration.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the 1.0.4 plugin does not seem to solve the problem. I should come back 1.0.3 or can it?

Thanks for all your help.

Thank you, Christophe, who complained of being 'ConfigurationManager' being missing (according to the first message in this thread). That said...

Rename/Delete the

C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Orchestrator\app-server\conf\plugins\AD.xml and

C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Orchestrator\app-server\server\vmo\conf\plugins\AD.xml

and re - configure the plugin (1.0.3 in this case) AD, seems to have allowed the AD connection is restored. At that time, we were see errors in the vCO related to plugin configuration of the client (it seems that all the old cruft of 1.0.4 has not been completely cleaned), so I upgraded the plugin from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4.

I can now browse through the structure of the AD in vCO as expected. A terrifying upgrade, plugin-breaking!

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server to vCenter Server 5.1 5.1 update 1 when the SQL database is remote and vCenter Server Heartbeat is installed

    Hi guys,.

I'm in the middle of an upgrade to vSphere 5.1 5.1 vSphere update 1. I have vCenter protected by HB and SQL on a separate computer (also protected by HB) I also run Syslog, Update Manager and Proxy authentication on vCenter.

I've successfully upgraded HB on all 4 nodes (2 x vCenter & 2 x SQL) and started the upgrade components on the secondary according to the •vCenter Server Heartbeat 6.5 server and vCenter Update 1 Installation on Windows Server 2008 when the secondary server is virtual (PDF) http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vcenter-server-heartbeat-65-u1-installation-windows-2008-virtual-guide.pdf

    I got to step 3.c

    3. change the primary/active server role:

a launch of the vCenter Server Heartbeat wizard configure server and click the tab of the Machine to change the server role for the current server (primary) to the active State and click Finish.

b using the Service Control Manager, start the Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter service.

c using the vCenter Server Heartbeat Console, check that all the status icons on the server: summary page are green indicating that the boot process is completed and protected from all the services are started.

d using the Service Control Manager, stop the service Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter.

As the vCenter service does not start, I'm stuck at this point. As far as I'm concerned, the error is quite logical. I've updated vCenter using the secondary server, and then I'm trying to connect (according to the guide) with another version that breaks down.

If I continue with the services stop and launch the installer SSO, it is trying to perform an uninstall!

Did I miss something in this upgrade?

Hi guys, VMware have finally updated the documentation to reflect the right way forward: https://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/heartbeat_pubs.html U1 6.5 Select from the menu drop-down and you'll see the last date of update for each of the documentation is now 10/10/2013. The guide States now specifically to restore the vCenter database before proceeding with any other measure, this is copied below for convenience: "the upgrade of the main server of the upgrade process further guess upgrading the secondary server completed successfully. Procedure 1 before continuing the upgrade process, perform a restore of the database of vCenter Server, Single Sign-On database, VMware Update Manager database and SSL certificates that were backed up in step 4 on the secondary server. regards Ciaran

Sorry if this has been answered many, I want just to get an idea of what I have to do once our license arrives.

Simply place the .lic file in the folder of licenses from the license server.  Launch of LM, then click Reread License File and it will go look for him.

You don't need to replace the existing one that is there, just put another one there and it will merge the two files in the License Manager.

    1: Yes

    2: no

    3: no

4: depends on what policies of power you are using.  Since vCenter is going to be offline you won't be able to start and stop machines.  The best thing is to change your feeding strategy for always under tension and ensure that all machines are available during the interview of vCenter.

  • The upgrade to vCenter

I'm about to upgrade our cluster of vSphere ESXi 5 to 5.5, but before I did I wanted to confirm that the upgrade to vCenter there is no downtime for virtual machines hosted.  I don't plan any, but wanted to make sure that no one had met something unexpected.

    Tony

You do not wait to have a downtime of any virtual machines hosted by the upgrade to vCenter.

If you upgraded to v5.0, then you also need to install VMware Single Sign On (SSO), which was introduced to vSphere 5.1.

  • Upgrade to vCenter Server to 5.5u2d (5.5.0 build-2183111)

Hi guys, I just wanted to check with you somethings, I need to run the below to be in compliance with the last safety:

Upgrade to VMware vCenter Server 5.5u2d (5.5.0 build-2183111) or later, our current version is 5.5.0 build-1945274.

I previously ran updates when you move the vCenter server, but did not have an upgrade on the same server, it is just a matter of downloading the latest version of the software running in custom mode, the upgrade of each of the parties to vCenter and be careful not to overwrite the database?

    Thanks in advance

Yes, just make sure backup your base of data and/or your vCenter VM snapshot and to proceed with the custom installation wizard.
